‘Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse’ Opening In Theaters Today

Happy Halloween! This October has already seen a new addition to the Paranormal Activity series (The Ghost Dimension), the return of AMC’s The Walking Dead and its spinoff series Fear The Walking Dead, and the comeback of R.L. Stine’s classic scary-tale series Goosebumps with Jack Black (Shallow Hal, School of Rock) at the helm. This week, and just in time for Halloween weekend, we get another Zombified movie experience from director Christopher Landon (Paranormal Activity, Burning Palms) in the form of Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse. This week Academy Award-winning musician-turned-actor Jared Leto (Requiem For A Dream, Dallas Buyers Club) was seen in a new photo from director David Ayer’s Twitter account. The photo displays Leto’s Joker make-up for the upcoming Suicide Squad, due out in theaters in August 2016, while simultaneously celebrating the 75th anniversary of the character’s first appearance. Writer/director David Ayer (End of Watch, Fury) will be working from his own script adaptation of Ross Andru, Robert Kanigher, and John Ostrander’s DC Comics series. Joining Leto in the cast line-up are actors Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street, Focus), Jai Courtney (The Water Diviner, Terminator Genisys), Will Smith (Independence Day, Men in Black), Joel Kinneman (Safe House, RoboCop), and Viola Davis (The Help, Prisoners). Actor/rapper Common (Now You See Me, Selma), Scott Eastwood (Invictus, The Longest Ride), Jessie Eisenberg (The Social Network, Zombieland), and Adam Beach (Joe Dirt, Flags of our Fathers) are also expected to make appearances in the film. The plot details are minute but the general outline from the comics is that the Suicide Squad is a group of super-villains put together by a government agency tasked with carrying out dangerous missions in exchange for shorter prison sentences. Principle photography is currently underway, so we should see a teaser trailer coming out pretty soon. Follow the link below to see the tweeted photo from director Ayer.

‘The Hunger Games: MockingJay-Part 2’ To Be Released In 3D-IMAX

Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games (2012).

The Hunger Games film franchise will be wrapping up this November with Mockingjay-Part 2, and for the first time in the whole series, movie-goers will be able to see it in IMAX 3D. While the first two installments, The Hunger Games and Catching Fire saw release on IMAX screens, last year’s Mockingjay-Part 1 was not released on IMAX or 3D, at least not in the United States. Audiences in China, however, were able to see Mockingjay-Part 1 in 3D, and since the response was so positive, Lionsgate has decided to release Part 2 in 3D as well, so director Francis Lawrence has added another task to his post-production checklist, according to Lawrence the new format will only help to improve the quality of the movie, but I guess it will be up to the fans to decide whether or not it improves upon the earlier films or not. Mockingjay-Part 2 opens in theaters this November 20th, and stars Jennifer Lawrence (Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle), Josh Hutcherson (Bridge To Terabithia, Escobar: Paradise Lost), Liam Hemsworth (Empire State, Paranoia), Philip Seymour Hoffman (Capote, A Most Wanted Man), and Woody Harrelson (No Country For Old Men, Zombieland).

‘Zombieland 2’ May Be Back In The Works With Director Ruben Fleischer

bill

After five years of waiting for a sequel to the 2009 action/comedy, fans of Zombieland are getting excited about news from Deadline of a sequel with original director Ruben Fleischer being back in the works. Although Fleischer does not have an actual contract on the table at this time, screenwriter Dave Callaham is going to be working on a script for the project, fresh off his work on this summer’s blockbuster Godzilla from Legendary Pictures. While this is all good news, it is not clear as to whether or not the cast of the original will be available at this time, particularly Jesse Eisenberg, who is set to play Lex Luther in the upcoming Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, and will most likely return for the Justice League movie after that. Emma Stone is also scheduled to appear in two upcoming projects, one with Cameron Crowe and the other with Woody Allen, while Woody Harrelson is wrapping up work on The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Parts 1 & 2, and will also be appearing in the upcoming sequel Now You See Me 2 (2016). Abigail Breslin will also be appearing in Maggie (2015) alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger, which also revolves around a zombie-apocalypse plot but from a much more dramatic perspective, as a father comforts his daughter through her transformation from human to zombie. We’ll keep an ear out for more news about Zombieland 2. Stay tuned.

‘Ghostbusters 3’ Has Bill Murray’s Support For A Lady-Squad Of Busters!!

busters

Since the death of original writer and actor Harold Ramis earlier this year, the fate of Ghostbusters 3 has been hanging on the edge between becoming a potential hollywood-hit or a shelved might-have-been project. Bill Murray has also been pretty reluctant to go any further with the project, especially now that Ramis is out of the picture, but a recent idea from Columbia Pictures execs did manage to raise an eyebrow. The pitch is to put director Paul Feig at the helm of an all-female squad of paranormal butt-kickers for a totally new Ghostbusters film altogether, replacing a group of saggy, old men with a group of young, sexy Ladybusters! Murray was apparently really intrigued with that idea, and even provided some suggestions to the filmmakers, including Melissa McCarthy (Bridesmaids, Identity Thief), Emma Stone (SuperBad, Zombieland), Kristen Wiig (The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Her), and Linda Cardellini (Freaks and Geeks, Grandma’s Boy). Ironically enough McCarthy and Wiig have both done work with Feig in Bridesmaids, with McCarthy also collaborating with him on Identity Thief and The Heat. Although I wouldn’t personally put McCarthy in the “sexy-squad” category, her comedy genius would definitely be a key component of a female Ghostbusters movie, and from the looks of it Murray is pretty much guaranteed not to be involved, but we’ll see what happens with final casting if we ever do get a final script written.

Jesse Eisenberg and Jeremy Irons Join Batman Vs. Superman Cast

jesse

The production on director Zack Snyder’s sequel to Man of Steel, thus far only dubbed Batman vs. Superman, has been doing a great job about keeping details under wraps. Warner Bros. recently decided to push back the release for the film to 2016, and the big rumor is that the movie will be filmed to coincide with The Justice League movie, but now the company has announced two very unexpected cast members have joined the project. Warner Bros. announced last week that Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network, Zombieland) and Jeremy Irons (Die Hard With A Vengeance, The Man in the Iron Mask) would be joining the cast of Batman/Superman in the roles of the villainous Lex Luther and dedicated Alfred Pennyworth, respectively. The news of the casting choice has come as a complete surprise. The names of the two actors have not even been considered by the public media, and neither Snyder, nor anybody else involved with the project, ever hinted at the two names even being considered for the roles. Eisenberg made a name for himself in 2011 when he was nominated for an Oscar for his lead role in The Social Network, and Irons has been a veteran name in Hollywood for the last 20 years, having received his first Oscar back in 1992 for Reversal of Fortune. Eisenberg and Irons join Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck in the cast of Batman/Superman, as well as Gal Gadot, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, and Lawrence Fishburne.
