Producer Harvey Weinstein of the Weinstein Company has pushed back national release of his long anticipated drama Tulip Fever, based on the popular novel by Deborah Moggach, to a February 2017 release. The film has already seen several release delays; it was filmed back in 2014 and has since made no debuts at any of the film festival circuits or limited releases here in the States or elsewhere. Now, however, Weinstein seems to have settled on a post-Valentine’s Day release, going up against God Particle from producer J.J. Abrams (Star Trek, Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and Sleepless with Jaimie Fox (Ray, Collateral) and Michelle Monaghan (Gone Baby Gone, True Detective). Starring Oscar winners Alicia Vikander (El Machina, The Danish Girl) and Christoph Waltz (Inglorious Basterds, Django Unchained), the film follows an artist who falls for a married woman he is hired to paint in portrait in the midst of the tulip frenzy of 17th century Amsterdam. A lot of news was revealed at the annual Comic-Con event in San Diego this year; so much, in fact, that we’ll probably be telling you about it all week. One of the highlights of the event was the Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice panel, which featured actors Henry Cavill (The Cold Light of Day, Immortals), Ben Affleck (The Town, Argo), Gal Gadot (Entourage, Furious Seven), and Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network, Zombieland) discussing the movie and the new (much extended) trailer that was unveiled for fans. The movie has a lot of weight resting on its shoulders. Not only will Batman be re-introduced to the big-screen after Christian Bale’s Dark Knight series ended, but Wonder Woman will also make her big-screen debut and (if DC gets their shit together and starts coordinating their superhero movie plots) will lay the groundwork for the upcoming Justice League movies. Wonder Woman is also expected to have her own independent movie coming into production and Ben Affleck has signed on for both the Justice League movies and additional independent Batman movies. Talk about milking the cow! Anyway the new trailer for Batman Vs. Superman, which is expected in theaters March 24th, 2016, is here on MADE. Enjoy!
Although most of us won’t have the opportunity to see this one unless we’re in New York City or Los Angeles, it is still a project worth bringing to your attention. Director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (Babel, Biutiful) released a new film at this year’s Venice Film Festival titled Birdman or The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance. The film features an all star cast lead by Michael Keaton and also featuring Zach Galifianakis, Edward Norton, Andrea Riseborough, Amy Ryan, Emma Stone, and Naomi Watts. The story follows an actor who, at the height of his career, portrayed an iconic superhero (Birdman) and now must overcome his eccentric ego in order to reclaim his seat in the spotlight by taking a role in a Broadway play. Inarritu directed the film from a screenplay written by himself and screenwriters Nicolas Giacobone, Alexander Dinelaris, and Armando Bo. Birdman has already seen several additional releases in the United States, including the Telluride Film Festival in August and the New York Film Festival, Hamptons International, and Philadelphia International Film Festivals earlier this month. Chicagoans will get a chance to see it on the 18th as part of the Chicago International Film Festival, but a nationwide theatrical release has not yet been announced. Stay tuned for more information.
Director Rawson Marshall Thurber delivered a smash comedy hit last year with We’re The Millers, starring Jason Sudeikis and Jennifer Aniston. The movie made over $250 million worldwide and now New Line Cinema has a sequel in the works and screenwriter Adam Sztykiel has been hired to writer the project. Sztykiel’s track record includes the comedies Made of Honor (2008) and Due Date (2010) with Robert Downey Jr. and Zach Galifianakis. No word yet on when the movie will be ready or scheduled for release.

There has been a lot of talk regarding the sequel to Zach Snyder’s Man of Steel, which is going to be a Batman vs. Superman movie, although there is not title for the project yet. The filmmakers announced the movie earlier this year at Comic Con and after a couple of months, it was announced that Ben Affleck would be playing Batman against Henry Cavill’s Superman. Now there is even more casting speculation going on as rumors of Wonder Woman and Nightwing making an appearance in the film as well! Christopher Nolan ended his Dark Knight trilogy with Blake/Robin (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) finding the Bat-Cave and possibly carrying on Bruce Wayne’s legacy in Gotham, but when it was announced that Christian Bale would have no part in the Snyder project and that Affleck would be playing Batman instead, the possibility of a movie featuring Robin or Nightwing was pretty much thrown from our minds. Recent news, however, indicates that Nightwing may be making that appearance after all, and actor Adam Driver may be up for the part. As for Wonder Woman, several actresses have been brought up as possibilities, including Jamie Alexander and Olga Kurylenko, but there are still no official reports that Wonder Woman is the role they are auditioning for, so we’ll have to check back on that one. Stay tuned to MADE for more updates.
