Special 20th Anniversary Screenings of Luc Besson’s ‘The Fifth Element’ Showing This May

In 1997, writer/director Luc Besson (Leon: The Professional, The Family) released his cult sci-fi classic The Fifth Element, featuring an all-star cast led by Bruce Willis (Die Hard, Pulp Fiction), Milla Jovovich (Dazed and Confused, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter), Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight Rises, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), Chris Tucker (Friday, Rush Hour), and Ian Holm (The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Day After Tomorrow). Set in the 23rd century, the film follows a cab driver in New York City whose life changes when he inadvertently picks up Leeloo. After being contacted by a strange priest, who informs him of Leeloo’s importance in defeating a great Evil, the three of them embark on a mission to save Leeloo and the universe at large.

The film was nominated for an Oscar for Best Sound Effects/Editing and, over the years, has developed a massive cult following. It also furthered the career of Milla Jovovich, who went on to star in such films as Zoolander and the Resident Evil film series. As a special 20th Anniversary celebration, The Fifth Element will be playing in select theaters across the country on May 14th and 17th. British Actor Alan Rickman Has Died Of Cancer At The Age of 69

rickman

Golden Globe winning actor Alan Rickman has died after a fight with cancer at the age of 69. The British actor was famous around the globe for his roles as Severus Snape in the Harry Potter franchise, and as villain Hans Gruber in the original Die Hard, opposite Bruce Willis. Having worked as an actor, writer, and director, Rickman was a veteran of both the stage and screen, appearing in such Broadway productions as Private Lives in the West End and in films including Galaxy Quest, Love Actually, Sweeney Todd, Alice in Wonderland, Lee Daniel’s The Butler, Dogma, Sense and Sensibility, and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. His absence from the world of acting and filmmaking will sorely be missed in the years to come.

Catch This Week’s Limited Release Features In Your Local Listings

With Star Wars: The Force Awakens opening in theaters nationwide tomorrow, you can expect movie theaters to be jam-packed this weekend with old and new generation fans alike. There are, however, a number of smaller, independent projects coming out this weekend that we like to take the time to shine the spotlight on. The first is a new war drama titled Son of Saul (originally Saul fia) from writer/director Laszlo Nemes (The Counterpart, The Gentlemen Takes His Leave), which received excellent recognition at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Taking place in the Nazi concentration camp, Auschwitz, in 1944, the film follows a prisoner who attempts to find redemption by saving a boy he adopts as his son from the furnaces of the camp that he has been forced to subject many of his own people to. Starring in the film are actors Geza Rohrig, Levente Molnar (Morgen, Our Big Time), Urs Rechn (Eight Miles High, The King’s Surrender), and Todd Charmont (The Last of the Mohicans, Strangers). Next up are a couple of action-thrillers, the first in the form of the French film The Lady in the Car with the Glasses and Gun from director Joann Sfar (Gainsbourg: A Heroic Life, The Rabbi’s Cat), and the second a new action flick with Bruce Willis (Die Hard, Lucky Number Sleven) titled Extraction. Lady in the Car is an adaptation of the latest novel by Sébastien Japrisot about a secretary who steals her bosses car to go joyriding, only to discover she is now the prime suspect in a murder case after a body turns up in the trunk of the car. Extraction is a low budget action film from director Steven C. Miller (The Aggression Scale, Under The Bed), co-starring Kellan Lutz (Twilight, The Legend of Hercules) and Gina Carano (Fast & Furious 6, Deadpool), that follows the son of a captured CIA operative who decides to initiate his own rescue mission after the government refuses to conduct a rescue operation. The last release is a new documentary Noma My Perfect Storm featuring award-winning chef Rene Redzepi, who discusses her success with her Copenhagen-based restaurant (Noma) and her personal philosophy on the culinary arts that has contributed to her success. All of these sound like they’ll be pretty promising, so if you’re looking for a nice Star Wars alternative this weekend, check your local theater listings for showtimes for these features. Enjoy!

New Comedy With Bill Murray ‘Rock the Kabash’ Opening In Theaters This Friday October 23rd

A new comedy from Oscar-winning director Barry Levinson (Rain Man, Bandits) is opening in theaters this week. Titled Rock the Kabash, the film stars comedy veteran Bill Murray (Ghostbusters, Lost in Translation) as a music-industry manager who discovers the voice of a young talent while on tour in Afghanistan and accompanies her to Kabul to participate in Afghan Star, a popular talent-reality show in the Middle East. Screenwriter Mitch Glazer (Scrooged, The Recruit) is behind the script, which features Leem Lubany (Omar, From A to B), Zooey Deschanel (Elf, Yes Man), Bruce Willis (Die Hard, Pulp Fiction), Kate Hudson (Almost Famous, The Skeleton Key), and Danny McBride (Pineapple Express, This Is The End). This will be Levinson’s first directorial release since 2014’s The Humbling with Al Pacino (The Godfather, Scarface). The trailer is available here on MADE. Enjoy!

‘Sin City: A Dame To Kill For’ Trailer Reveals Further Plot Details

The new trailer for Sin City: A Dame To Kill For from directors Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez is now on the big screen, and fans of Miller and his graphic novel are definitely in for a treat. Featuring a good portion of the original cast, including Bruce Willis, Rosario Dawson, Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, Powers Boothe, and Dennis Haysbert, the movie also features new-comers Josh Brolin, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ray Liotta, Christopher Meloni, and Eva Green, and is also rumored to feature cameos of Christopher Lloyd (Back To The Future, Who Framed Roger Rabbit) and Lady Gaga. Director Frank Miller adapted the screenplay from his graphic novel that was the inspiration for the original Sin City film back in 2005. We should see this one in theaters by the end of the summer, so you’ll have to sit tight just a little while longer.

Sin City 2 To Hit Theaters This August, Sin City 3 Already In The Works

city

Director Robert Rodriquez is nearly finished adding all the special effects for the upcoming, long awaited sequel to Sin City, A Dame To Kill For, and the film should be able to honor its scheduled August 22nd release date. The original film from Rodriquez and graphic novelist Frank Miller came out in 2005 and featured an all-star cast that includes Bruce Willis, Benicio Del Toro, Jessica Alba, Rosario Dawson, Josh Hartnett, Clive Owen, Elijah Wood, and Mickey Rourke. The film was highly recognized at the Cannes Film Festival for its groundbreaking visual effects and cinematography, and with the new film taking so long in post-production, we must be in for even more mind-blowing visuals. The sequel will reunite most of the original cast, and will also add some new faces to the mix, including Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Eva Green, Josh Brolin, Jeremy Piven, and Ray Liotta. Miller and Rodriquez are also already talking about how to approach part 3, but until A Dame To Kill For is released and box office numbers come in, the fate of a third installment has yet to be determined.

Sin City Sequel Set For August 2014

city

Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez have kept audiences waiting for a sequel to their blockbuster hit Sin City, based on Miller’s graphic novel of the same name. The film included an all star cast including Bruce Willis, Mickey Rourke, Rosario Dawson, Jessica Alba, and Clive Owen and reports have indicated that Willis and Rourke will be returning to reprise their roles in the upcoming sequel. Some new names will also be taking on new roles including Josh Brolin, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Jeremy Piven, and the film has been set for an August 22nd release date for 2014. There have been some recent changes to the project, including the name being switched from Sin City: A Dame to Kill For to Sin City: A Dame to Die For, which may or may not have some influence on the plot, but with Miller and Rodriguez on the project I doubt fans have anything to worry about as far as disappointment goes.

Sin City 2

sin city 2

Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez are reuniting much of the original cast for next summer’s Sin City 2: A Dame to Kill For. Bruce Willis, Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba and Rosario Dawson will all be returning to the film, as well as some new faces including Eva Green and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. No real details have surfaced pertaining to the plot, but if the direction follows the first film I’m sure there’ll be a good combination of story lines.
