Memory Lanes Block Party 2017

Location: 2520 26th Avenue S, Minneapolis
When: Sat-Sun, May 27th-28th // 3PM-2AM

Memorial Day weekend is coming up quickly, so it’s time to start making plans. Rhymesayer’s annual Soundset Music Festival usually takes the cake, but the Twin Cities still offer a TON of other options over that weekend. Memory Lanes’ annual block party is always one of the year’s better neighborhood get togethers. This year’s musical lineups don’t disappoint with a whooping 20+ acts on the bill spread across 2 days. The weekend will include performances from Dillinger Four, Black Market Brass, JC Brooks, Sarah White, Crunchy Kids, and Tony Peachka to name a few. The lanes will be open and the Summit beers will be on deck, these are family friendly until 10PM, when the party turns 21+ inside. Both days will run you $5 or you could stop by after 10PM for free entry, we suggest you cough up the $5. Click the link below for more information.

‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ Earns $290 Million Haul In Opening Weekend

Like last Christmas, and likely the next four, five, six, or even seven still to come, Star Wars fandom is again dominating the box office. The first Star Wars prequel, Rogue One, opened in theaters worldwide this weekend, earning an impressive $290.5 million in box office ticket sales. Disney, who now owns the Star Wars franchise, initially predicted a $120-150 million take for the North American market, which ended up at $155 million. The worldwide box office haul does exclude China, which won’t see Rogue One in theaters until after the New Year. China, incidentally, is the second-largest market in movie ticket sales, so the grand total will likely reach into the $300 million range with ease. As impressive as the opening weekend was, Rogue One failed to break the box-office record set by last year’s Star Wars Episode 7 – The Force Awakens, which took home $248 million in its opening weekend. Still, the success of Rogue One demonstrates the potential for future Star Wars spinoffs Disney has, and will likely soon have in the making. Fans are already looking forward to next year’s Star Wars Episode 8, and a Han Solo origins story is still in the works for 2018. Needless to say, Star Wars fans will be getting their fix for years to come if Disney keeps up at this rate. And with $290 million world box office hauls, why wouldn’t they make more? The trailer for Rogue One is available here on MADE. If you get a chance, be sure to see it on the big screen this holiday season. Enjoy!

Today in Movie History….

Today in 1989, the eccentric and far-out vacation-gone-wrong comedy Weekend at Bernie‘s opened in theaters around the world. While critics didn’t have too many great things to say about it, movie-goers openly embraced the outlandish comedy, making it one of pop-culture’s most frequently referenced movies to-date. The script was penned by Emmy-winning screenwriter Robert Klane, who also worked as a writer on National Lampoon’s Vacation (1985) and Weekend at Bernie’s II (1993). Ted Kotcheff (Fun with Dick and Jane, Rambo: First Blood) directed the movie, which starred Andrew McCarthy (St. Elmo’s Fire, Pretty in Pink) and Jonathan Silverman (Conception, The Hungover Games) as a pair of insurance agents who are invited by their boss to spend the weekend with him at his house in the Hamptons; when they arrive to find him dead Continue reading
