New Thriller ‘Mojave’ Opening In Theaters January 22nd

William Monahan (The Departed, Body of Lies) is taking his second jab at directing his own script with a new thriller called Mojave. Starring Oscar Isaac (Inside Llewyn Davis, Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and Garret Hedlund (Four Brothers, Tron: Legacy), the film follows a rich, suicidal artist as he ventures into the Mojave Desert, only to encounter his doppelganger: a homicidal drifter. Appearing in the supporting cast are actors Walton Goggins (Shield, Sons of Anarchy), Mark Wahlberg (The Fighter, Lone Survivor), Dania Ramirez (X-Men: The Last Stand, American Reunion), and Matt Jones (Breaking Bad, Red State). Monahan’s last writing/directing project was a film called London Boulevard in 2010, but since The Departed opened in theaters in 2004 the writer has really failed to attain a solid following in terms of highly popular projects, like Edge of Darkness (2010) and the remake of The Gambler in 2014. The trailer does look pretty wild, though, making the film read more like a modern Western thriller with a plot of cat and mouse cowboys. Hopefully it will be enough to get Monahan back on the Oscar-worthy list, but we’ll see. The trailer is here on MADE. Enjoy!

The movie will bring back stars Adrian Grenier (A.I., Hart’s War), Kevin Connolly (John Q, The Notebook), Jeremy Piven (Old School, Smokin’ Aces), Jerry Ferrara (Think Like A Man, Lone Survivor), and Kevin Dillon (Platoon, The Doors) as Vince, Eric, Ari, Turtle, and Drama, plus a whole ensemble of supporting cast members, including series producer Mark Wahlberg (Four Brothers, The Departed), Jessica Alba (Fantastic Four, Awake), Debi Mazar (Goodfellas, Batman Forever), David Spade (Tommy Boy, Joe Dirt), Bob Saget (Full House, America’s Funniest Home Videos), Armie Hammer (The Social Network, The Lone Ranger), Billy Bob Thornton (Armageddon, Monster’s Ball), Gary Busey (Lethal Weapon, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas), and series regular Rhys Coiro (The Unborn, Straw Dogs) as outspoken independent-director Billy Walsh. Picking up 15 years after the show first began, Ari is now the head of the studio and recruits Vincent to star in his first picture, but Vince wanting to direct the film, plus a whole new series of flings and E and Sloan’s (Emmanuelle Chriqui) new baby bring about a whole new series of obstacles the entourage must overcome to stay on top. The film is written and directed by series creator Doug Ellin (The Waiter, Phat Beach) and is released by Warner Bros. in partnership with HBO. Enjoy!

Mark Wahlberg Eyeing Martin Scorsese To Direct Feature-Film Adaptation Of ‘Boardwalk Empire’

empire

Now that the popular HBO gangster-drama Boardwalk Empire has come to an end, producer Mark Wahlberg is looking to take the material to the big screen. In a recent interview, Wahlberg expressed interest in having Empire’s producer Martin Scorsese direct a film adaptation of the series, the only question is would Scorsese be interested? The legendary filmmaker already trying to balance a full schedule; he is currently filming a rock n’ roll series for HBO, wrapping up production on an upcoming Bill Clinton documentary, and is also expecting to produce and direct a biopic about actor/singer Frank Sinatra, so needless to say he is quite busy. Considering the way that Boardwalk ended on HBO (I won’t give anything away), a film adaptation would most likely involve a different perspective on the already existing story, or a continuation of the story after the fact. Whatever the case we’ll have to wait to see if this gets picked up. Mark Wahlberg currently has a new season of Wahlburgers coming out, and the film-adaptation of his other popular series, Entourage, with original actors Adrian Grenier, Jeremy Piven, Kevin Connolly, Jerry Ferrara, and Kevin Dillon, is expected in theaters on June 5, 2015. Stay tuned.

Writer William Monahan (The Departed, Edge of Darkness) adapted the updated screenplay for director Rupert Wyatt (The Escapist, Rise of the Planet of the Apes) and the film will co-star Jessica Lange (All That Jazz, Big Fish), Brie Larson (21 Jump Street, Don Jon), and John Goodman (The Big Lebowski, Oh Brother Where Art Thou). Liam Neeson And John Slattery Will Take Roles In Seth McFarlane’s ‘Ted 2’

ted

Seth MacFarlane is currently in Boston filming his upcoming comedy sequel Ted 2, but news of some new cast members has just recently hit the Hollywood web-scene. Following their collaboration on A Million Ways To Die In The West last year, MacFarlane has confirmed that actor Liam Neeson will be playing a small part in the movie, joining actors Mark Wahlberg, Amanda Seyfried, and Morgan Freeman. Entertainment Weekly also reported recently that John Slattery of AMC’s Mad Men will also be making an appearance in the film. Although there is no official word on the plot, Morgan Freeman has stated that he will appear as Ted’s civil rights lawyer who helps him out with some legal troubles, but thus far that’s really all we’ve heard. The movie is scheduled to hit theaters next June, so stay tuned for more news!

Rupert Wyatt’s ‘The Gambler’ With Mark Wahlberg Will Now Be Released This December

gambler

Variety recently reported that director Rupert Wyatt’s upcoming remake of the 1974 James Caan classic The Gambler has been moved up to a December 19th release date. While the initial release will be limited to certain cities and then expand nationwide on New Year’s Day, it will qualify the film for the next awards season. Mark Wahlberg will be leading the cast as Jim Bennett, a degenerate gambler who, after borrowing money from his girlfriend and mother, must save his loved ones from the gangsters he is now indebted to. The cast also features Brie Larson, Jessica Lange, and John Goodman and comes from a script written by William Monahan (The Departed, Kingdom of Heaven). James Caan, who had received an Oscar nomination for his role in Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather just two years earlier, received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor in 1974 for The Gambler, and both Wahlberg and Monahan received Oscar nods for their work on The Departed, so maybe this remake will do the original justice, but we’ll have to wait for December or January to find out.

Sam Raimi To Direct U.S./Afghanistan War Drama ‘The Outpost’

sam

Director Sam Raimi, who directed James Franco last year in Oz: The Great and Powerful, is currently involved in several different projects, including a video game adaptation of The Last of Us, and a reboot of The Grudge (which we all wish he wouldn’t do), but he may also be helming a new drama from writers Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson. The project is called The Outpost and is based on Jack Tapper’s non-fiction novel The Outpost: An Untold Story of American Valor, which follows a group of 53 U.S. troops at a base in Eastern Afghanistan that was ambushed by more than 400 Taliban members. The small battle lasted an entire day and resulted in two of the U.S. troops receiving Medals of Honor, the first time since the Vietnam era that two soldiers from the same battle received the honor. Now Raimi is looking to produce a feature film about the incident and possibly direct it as well. Tamasy and Johnson received critical acclaim for The Fighter in 2010 with Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale, but this new project is still in very early pre-production and no word on who would be leading the cast has been released. We’ll keep an eye out for more news.

Amanda Seyfried To Take Lead Female Role In ‘Ted 2’

ted

Seth MacFarlane’s big screen directing debut about a talking, pot-smoking, beer-guzzling teddy bear was a huge hit, and Ted had people talking about a sequel almost immediately. The Family Guy creator wrote the film and provided the voice of Ted alongside stars Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis. The director is now preparing to film Ted 2, with Mark Wahlberg returning and newcomer Amanda Seyfried taking the lead female role. Mila Kunis may or may not be back for the movie, but that hasn’t been confirmed since the script apparently doesn’t involve her character in a major part. MacFarlane is wrapping up work on another comedy project that also featured his new star Amanda Seyfried. The upcoming comedy is a western spoof called A Million Ways To Die In The West, and is scheduled to hit theaters this May. Universal has set the release for Ted 2 for June, 2015. In the meantime you can watch the trailer for A Million Ways To Die In The West here on MADE.
