With all of the buzz surrounding Yeezy Season 3 and The Life of Pablo, it wouldn’t be hard to have overlooked Vic Mensa’s new single, “Danger.” The Hyde Park native previewed the track during Kanye West’s Yeezy Season 3 event, then promptly released the full version later that night. Vic’s sound is surely evolving, his bars are only growing more ferocious as he gets his footing in the major label world. The good people over at Rhymesayers have finally announced the lineup for Soundset 2015. Received with mixed criticism, this year’s lineup features J. Cole, Big Sean, Ludacris, Dilated Peoples, Freddie Gibbs & Madlib, Vic Mensa, deM atlaS, Father, Sean Anonymous, Manny Phesto, Brother Ali, Clockwork Indigo and many…many more. Although the first installment of the All City series may have been more expansive, All City Vol. 2 takes a larger look at Minneapolis & Chicago’s hip hop scenes, while still incorporating a few other national artists. 2014 has been a great year for music in both Chicago & Minneapolis, with a lot of creativity brewing in the Mid-West. All City Vol. 2 takes some of our favorites from Chicago, Minneapolis and other cities across the nation. Check out the compilation below and keep an eye out for the All City feature.

Vic Mensa has been on a tear since performing with Kanye West & Sia for SNL’s 40th anniversary event. With numerous slots this summer at major festivals including, Soundset and Lolla, Vic plans to maintain his wave. Mensa recently released a track with Kanye West titled “U Mad,” an ode to his recent successes. 1.5 Million views in 3 days says A LOT, good thing Rhymesayers booked him early; this one will surely get the crowd moving at Soundset this May. Haitian/Canadian producer Kaytranada recently dropped a new track featuring his new partner in crime, Vic Mensa. Entitled “Drive Me Crazy”, the record is reminiscent of their previous collaboration, however, Vic gets A LOT more technical on this one; the youngin even flexes his crooning skills. Kaytra & Vic are proving that they have a potent chemistry with each release, here’s to hoping that they have more where this came from. No word on any newness from Vic or Kaytranada, but you can bet that both of them have big plans for 2015. Check out “Drive Me Crazy” above and keep an eye out for more.

2014 has been good for Vic Mensa, he landed On “XXL’s Top 10 Freshmen” list after is highly praised debut project, INNANETAPE, took the web by storm. Tonight, Vic will headline a show at the Metro along with a few special guests. No confirmations, but we’re sure you’ll see some Save Money brethren, and who knows, maybe even a Chance sighting. This one’s all ages and tickets are already sold out, if you’re looking to cop you’ll have to check Craigslist or Facebook, stay tuned for more info.
Vic Mensa took to Twitter a couple of days ago to release some new music for all of us. Entitled “Wimme Nah”, Vic takes a little time for his victory lap after all of his hard work. Produced by Kaytranada, “Wimme Nah” bangs hard from front to back and makes you want to stunt like you just got off tour yourself. Vic continues to inject new sounds into each release, he’s definitely one of the most promising young artists coming out of Chicago right now. With Lolla coming this weekend, the after parties are going to be plentiful. A notable event is Save Money’s show at Reggie’s Rock Club on Friday night. The event will feature the likes of Vic Mensa, Joey Purp, Tokyo Shawn, Dally Auston and more with potential for an entire cast of cameos. Unfortunately, this one’s already sold out, so if you’re dying to go you’ll need to cop tickets via Craigslist or Facebook. Keep an eye out for more info and a possible link for tickets.
As the hype surrounding this year’s XXL Freshman continues to build, it’s time for the annual round of cyphers. In part 1, Chance The Rapper, Kevin Gates, Isaiah Rashad, Vic Mensa and August Alsina all take a turn showcasing their bars. It’ll be interesting to see if the next group kicks things up a notch, peep the visual above and stay tuned for part 2.
As Vic Mensa continues to show off his versatility with records like “Feel That” & “Down On My Luck”, it’s tracks like “Crazy”; that serve as a warning for those who don’t really know the kid.
