Josh Trank’s New ‘Fantastic Four’ Movie Now Playing In Theaters

Today the comic world will get the chance to redeem a classic comic film adaptation that was all but ruined with the original attempts 10 years ago with Jessica Alba and Michael Chiklis. The all new Fantastic Four film from director Josh Trank (The Kill Point, Chronicle) is now playing in theaters, and fans everywhere are in high hopes that the new film will redeem the popularity of the series after a sequel to 2007’s Rise of the Silver Surfer never made it to the big screen. Making up the new group of heros are actors Miles Teller (The Spectacular Now, Divergent), Michael B. Jordan (Fruitvale Station, That Awkward Moment), Kate Mara (Iron Man 2, Transcendence), and Jamie Bell (Billy Elliot, King Kong), with Reg E. Cathey (American Psycho, House of Cards), Toby Kebbell (Wrath of the Titans, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) and Tim Blake Nelson (Oh Brother Where Art Thou?, Lincoln) joining the supporting cast. Director Trank wrote the screenplay for the new film with writers Simon Kinberg (Sherlock Holmes, X-Men: Days of Future Past) and Jeremy Slater (The Lazarus Effect), which sees the group of youngsters transported to an alternate dimension, strangely altering their physical compositions and providing them with abilities they will need to save the world from a former friend-turned-enemy after he followed them through the dimensional shift. The trailer is available here on MADE. Enjoy!

Disney Hires Rian Johnson To Write And Direct The Next ‘Star Wars’ Installment

With production underway on Star Wars: Episode VII (which is still scheduled for release in December 2015 despite Harrison Ford’s leg injury on the set) Disney is moving forward with their plans for future projects in the Star Wars series. Recent news has director Rian Johnson now set to direct Star Wars: Episode VIII, which will also receive some input from Johnson for the script and keep him on to write Episdoe IX, but Disney’s not stopping there. Godzilla director Gareth Edwards has also been hired to direct a spin-off that will be released in 2016 and could follow any number of characters that have appeared in the Star Wars universe, with a second spin-off from director Josh Trank coming out sometime after that, and maybe even before Episode VIII hits theaters. This means that J.J. Abrams will not be returning for the additional installments, which sucks for him because Star Trek 3 has already found a replacement director in Robert Orci. Oh well, it’s all part of the game I suppose. Stay tuned.

Directors Gareth Edwards And Josh Trank Set To Helm ‘Star Wars’ Spin-Offs

Director J.J. Abrams is currently working behind the camera on Star Wars: Episode 7 with original stars Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher. While that’s happening in the studio, Disney and LucasFilm are in the process of finding directors for their Star Wars spin-off movies that are set to be released after Episode 7 in 2015. Director Gareth Edwards (Godzilla, Monsters) is set to direct the first project, which is due out in December 2016 and Chronicle director Josh Trank will be directing a second project. These films are not the continuation story of the Star Wars movies, but instead follow individual characters within the Star Wars universe with separate storylines, very much like X-Men Origins. Although we are not sure what characters will be covered by these new movies, they could include anyone from any of the six Star Wars films, ranging from Master Yoda, Lando Calrissian, and even R2-D2, but we’ll have to wait for further details to come out.
