The Twin Cities Sneaker Exchange is getting set to throw their 5th event. What started as an experiment is now the cities’ premier sneaker trading, buying and selling expo attracting a wide variety of dealers/collectors. This time around the event will be at the Target Center in conjunction with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Amid the booths full of shoes, you’ll find live performances from a few local artists and painting exhibits, rounding out what should be a good time. With the Timberwolves on board, $20 tickets will get entry, as well as upper level seats for the Clippers game (March 2nd), while $40 tickets will grant you lower level seats. This one’s all ages and a solid deal for any fan of basketball or sneaker culture in general, click the link below for more information via Studiiyo 23.
KG….The Big Ticket…Will make his return to Minnesota soon. Those who grew up in the 90s probably have fond memories of KG in a Wolves jersey, it’s going to be great seeing him back in the Target Center.
The Timberwolves had a great All-Star weekend with 2 of their youngest stars shining bright. Andrew Wiggins won the “Rising Stars” MVP in the World vs USA game, but Zach Lavine was the one to steal the show. Zach performed 4 crazy dunks, each of which he did on his first try. Minnesotans who have had their eye on Lavine probably saw this coming, but the kid definitely shocked many. Check out a slow motion recap of his night above, the Timberwolves’ future is looking better and better.
It is finally official, the Minneapolis City Council has approved the latest hiring of Loring Park’s Architectural Alliance and Sink Combs Dethlegs. The two companies are teaming up to re-renovate Target Center and make it less of a soar thumb that it already is. With over $97 million being put into the damn thing, we hope to have one of the better arena’s around. Architectural Alliance is rather known throughout the MPLS area due to their work on the Guthrie Theater and TCF Bank Stadium, which are both state of the art facilities. So far, Minneapolis plans to begin construction in Spring 2015. . . Meanwhile, enjoy the traffic while you can, because it is going to be a mess.
A few weeks back, when watching the Wolves vs Blazers game, the announcers made some remarks to the beast Pekovic’s tattoo that I had never heard before. These remarks had me doing some digging. I have always speculated about what the meaning of this particular tattoo was, and now it is clear.
The Answer: After extensive research (5mn or so), I found some sources on this. The Warrior happens to be Pekovic, and the skulls are of his enemies that he has absolutely slain in battle. The announcers of the game proclaimed, “It looks like Lopez will be the next skull added with all the others, because Lopez is getting dominated”. This has added a whole new level of respect for Pekovic and his tattoos, the guy is an absolute giant on the court, leaving him a force to be reckoned with. Pek ended up with 30pts and 9 rebounds; so watch out Lopez, you might just be the next skull.
Kevin Love, the real quarterback in Minnesota. Take a look at all the successful outlet passes Love has completed through the first 9 games in the season. Finally Minnesota fans have something to cheer about in the NBA. Maybe, just maybe, this is the year they snap their 9 year drought from the playoffs. . .
The Target Center is set to get a complete face lift immediately following this season. The $100 million renovation will involve re-designing the outside, concessions, the center screens, and just about everything else you can think of. The facelift should make Target Center once again a state of the art arena for basketball. Just think about this, not only does MPLS have a brand new baseball field, they are about to have one for the Vikes and Wolves as well. I am definitely a fan of this decision by the city council; troughs at a basketball arena are not really ideal.
The Wolves play their season opener tonight against the Magic with a new and hopefully improved roster. Maybe, just maybe, the Wolves can get off to a fast start this season with their new GM, Flip Saunders, as Rubio dishes dimes out to the team.
It’s almost that time ladies & gentlemen, the 2013-2014 NBA season is nearly upon us and this year the Wolves are trying to finally get us back into the playoffs.
