Whether for good or bad, Kid Cudi has been in and out of the spotlight over the last year; most notably with his recent return to music with Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin’. The Ohio born artist continues to hold a strong following across the world with many of his fans/peers citing his work as influential in their own personal lives. His latest album, Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin’, is a return to a comfort zone to some, but many also point out the project’s experimental nature. Cudi has always been one to push the boundaries, sometimes to fan’s dismay, but this album feels like the right blend of experimentation and his quintessential sound. This show is all ages and tickets are still available for $40; if you want to avoid the younger crowds you can buy 21+ balcony tickets for $48. Minnesota’s own Corbin (F.K.A Spooky Black) and L.A. based producer Shlohmo are currently on the back end of their 16 date tour which started in Orange County, California on September 7th. His long awaited homecoming date was sold out well before the night of the show and it was only fitting that it took place at the first venue Corbin ever performed.
With a line around the block long after doors opened, the energy in the air was palpable. D33J opened up the night with a great set leading into Shlohmo’s electric performance. A set full of crowd favorites and a few unreleased records, Shlohmo was impressive from start to finish. At only 27 yrs old he’s a producer/artist that all music lovers should have on their radar. As Shlohmo’s set wrapped up, chants of “Corbin, Corbin” could be heard louder and louder while he held the crowd in suspense. An artist who has a certain mystique about him, Corbin’s stage props and visual backdrop immersed fans in a stupor. His booming vocals and droning demeanor floated over Psymun’s production with a chemistry rarely matched among up and coming artists now a days. Towards the end of Corbin’s set, fellow St. Paul native Bobby Raps made a guest appearance sending the venue into an uproar. It was clear that these guys are beloved in their hometown and that the sky is the limit. Corbin and Shlohmo will finish off their tour on the east coast with dates in Boston (9/26) and Philly (9/27), before the final date in NYC (9/30). If you’re on the east coast, click the link below to grab tickets before they sell out.
The A$AP Mob is currently riding the wave off the Cozy Tapes: Vol.2, while they continue their international “Too Cozy” tour. The 17 track project is a kaleidoscope of fresh production and features from a few industry giants like Big Sean, Gucci Mane, Frank Ocean, and Quavo. Cozy Tapes: Vol.2 feels like a mixtape which in this day and age is actually a good thing, the record has a looseness about it that suggests that there is much more to come. A$AP Rocky obviously serves as the ring leader, but Ferg, Twelvyy, Na$t, and Playboi Carti all show off notable verses. As the A$AP Mob grows into a formidable label of cohorts it will be interesting to see how they manage all of these individual identities. Check out Cozy Tapes: Vol.2 below via iTunes and make sure to click the link below for tickets to their Minneapolis tour stop.
