‘Independence Day 2: Resurgence’ Now Playing In Theaters Nationwide

The highly anticipated sequel to director Roland Emmerich‘s 1996 blockbuster Independence Day 2: Resurgence is now playing in theaters nationwide. Despite a failed effort to bring back Will Smith, who played one of the lead roles in the original film, the new sequel has gained much anticipation from fans of the original, who no doubt are excited to see veteran actors Jeff Goldblum (Jurassic Park, The Grand Budapest Hotel) and Bill Pullman (Spaceballs, While You Were Sleeping) reunite onscreen to fight aliens! Also returning from the original film are actors Vivica A. Fox (Juwanna Man, Kill Bill: Vol 1), Brent Spiner (The Aviator, Star Trek: The Next Generation), and Judd Hirsch (Ordinary People, A Beautiful Mind), who are joined by new lead Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games, Paranoia), and actors Jessie T. Usher (When The Game Stands Tall, Survivor’s Remorse), Joey King (Crazy Stupid Love, The Conjuring), Maika Monroe (Labor Day, It Follows), Sela Ward (The Day After Tomorrow, Gone Girl), and William Fichtner (Armageddon, Black Hawk Down). Despite popularity among fans, the film has not received good reviews from critics, who have called it “boring” and “loaded down with ’90s cheesiness.” Not sure how audiences will react or if they will agree with the critics, but I guess we’ll find out this weekend. Enjoy!

‘Insurgent’ And ‘The Gunman’ Opening In Theaters March 20th

Opening on the big screen this week is the second installment in the Divergent series titled Insurgent, based on the book series by Veronica Roth. Insurgent continues to follow Tris Prior and her fellow ‘Divergents’ in their struggle against the alliance, reuniting cast members Shailene Woodley (The Descendants, The Fault in Our Stars), Theo James (You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger, Underworld: Awakening), Jai Courtney (A Good Day To Die Hard, Unbroken), Zoe Kravitz (It’s Kind of a Funny Story, X-Men: First Class), Kate Winslet (Titanic, The Life of David Gale), and Ashley Judd (Double Jeopardy, High Crimes), among others. One crew member that is not returning, however, is director Neil Burger, who has been replaced by Robert Schwentke (Flightplan, RED) working from a script by Brian Duffield, Akiva Goldsman, and Mark Bomback. Also opening is a new action flick a little more grounded in reality; The Gunman stars Oscar-winners Sean Penn (Mystic River, Milk) and Javier Bardem (No Country For Old Men, Skyfall), as well as Golden Globe-winner Idris Elba (American Gangster, Prometheus). Vantage Point director Pete Travis adapted the screenplay from Jean-Patrick Manchette’s novel, with Taken director Pierre Morel heading the project. Both features open in theaters March 20th; if you haven’t seen Divergent, be sure to check it out before you go and see Insurgent. Furious 7 Opening In Theaters April 3rd, 2015

This April will see the final installment of the iconic Fast and Furious series with original actor Paul Walker from Universal Studios. This will be director James Wan‘s (Saw, The Conjuring) first-step into the action-film series that will reunite cast members Vin Diesel (XXX, The Chronicles of Riddick), Dwayne Johnson (Walking Tall, Hercules), Jordana Brewster (The Faculty, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning), and Michelle Rodriguez (S.W.A.T., Avatar), plus the whole string of actors that have appeared regularly throughout the series. Also joining the cast for this upcoming installment is Jason Statham (The Transporter, The Italian Job), who made an uncredited appearance in Fast and Furious 6, and Golden Globe-nominee Kurt Russell (Escape From New York, Death Proof). This seventh installment in the series has been making news since Paul Walker’s untimely death in 2013; the production was delayed by 6 months, the script was tweaked for Walker’s absence, and even Walker’s brothers came aboard to help complete some of his scenes with the help of CGI technology, so needless to say this movie has been through some hurdles already. Check out the trailer here on MADE. The opens near you this April 3rd.
