Sway once again brought his namesake morning show, Sway in the Morning, to Minneapolis for his annual Soundset weekend live recording. Filmed at Icehouse, the 1st part of the cypher features local and national artists including Sake Red, Frank Knizza, Darren Sipity, and Scooter Boy among others. A solid showing from majority of the artists who touched the mic, it appears Sway was feeling Minnesota. Check out part 1 of the cypher for yourself above and decide for yourself, stay tuned for part 2.

Sway In The Morning: “Get In The Game” w/ RP Hooks

Sway recently brought Minneapolis’ own RP Hooks on for his “Get In The Game” segment. The BLVCK SPVCE producer/MC played 2 tracks from his project 340am, “AM” & “Cloud100”, 2 records that stand out as crowd favorites. Hooks received good and bad criticism on the show, but managed to end with 6 out of 11 “Get In The Game” nominations, no small accomplishment. Sway has had his eye on Twin Cities talent for quite some time, so it’s awesome to see another artist on the show. Check out the video above and grab tickets below for BLVCK SPVCE’s show on January 30th.

Rapper Hooks on “Sway In The Morning”

Minneapolis’ own Rapper Hooks will be live on air tomorrow morning with Sway for his morning show, “Sway In The Morning”. Brought to us by Sirius XM, the Shade 45 fueled segment will begin at 10AM (EST). Hooks has been grinding hard, we clocked his album, 340AM, at #4 on our list of the Top 14 Albums of 2014; so it’s good to see the kid getting some shine. Make sure to tune in if you have Sirius XM or click the link below to listen online.

Soundset Mega Cypher w/ Slug, P.O.S, Metasota, Carnage & More

Legendary host and hip hop guru, Sway; recently set up his Sway In The Morning radio show at Fifth Element resulting in some ill shit. You may have seen the Toki Wright x Greg Grease x Allan Kingdom interview/freestyle, now we bring you the mega cypher. Rhymesayers was definitely in the building offering up some of the city’s best MCs for this one. In order of appearance: Slug, P.O.S, Muja Messiah, Lioness, Metasota, Carnage, Joe Horton and MaLLy all dish out some nice bars off the top. In my opinion, Metasota, Lioness & Carnage shine the brightest, but that doesn’t take away from anyone else; they all did their thing.

Greg Grease, Toki Wright & Allan Kingdom on Sway In The Morning

The other day, Sway set up his morning show in Minnesota finding a chance to link up with Greg Grease, Toki Wright & Allan Kingdom before Soundset. During the course of the interview, each artist gets a chance to introduce them self and give a little info about their current projects. Later in the evening, the 3 participate in a freestyle in signature Sway In The Morning style. It’s awesome to see artists from our city getting their due cred, big ups to Sway for always holding the Twin Cities down.

Sway @ Soundset 2014

Sway was all up in the crowd during yesterday’s Soundset festival, got to shake the mans hand and thank him for one of the best morning shows around. In honor of the man, the myth and his inexplicable head wrap; here’s a clip from his now infamous interview with Kanye West. “YOU DON’T HAVE THE ANSWERS”

MPLS Throwbacks on Sway In The Morning

The last few years I have been listening to Sway In The Morning, and for some reason thought of this video today. I haven’t seen this video in a while and figured it needed some digging up. Eyedea and Slug trade versus on Sway’s Wakeup Show from a few years back, when the Minneapolis Hip-Hop scene was beginning to boom. The two go completely off the top for nearly 10mn, and develop a nice dual threat as they feed off one another’s wordplay. From that day on, Sway then respected the MPLS Hip-Hop scene.

Last year I was riding into work and caught all 5 fingers of death from Brother Ali; needless to say I was late that day. Ali absolutely destroyed all 5 fingers of death, and blew away everyone in the studio. To this day I am not sure anyone made it look that easy. Watch as brother Ali spits through it like its breakfast.
