There’s been a lot of excitement surrounding acclaimed writer/director Steven Spielberg‘s upcoming adaptation of Ernest Cline’s Ready Player One over the last six months. Spielberg (Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Lincoln) has been dealing with various production delays, including Warner Bros. pushing the release date back to March 2018 to avoid conflicting with Disney‘s Star Wars: Episode VIII, but now with a final release date set, production should get underway relatively quickly, especially seeing as the cast has just added a lead actor. The Tree of Life and Mud actor Tye Sheridan has been selected to play the lead role of Wade Watts, a teenager in a futuristic world where the human race prefers to live in a virtual reality universe called Oasis. Oscar Winner Steven Soderbergh Returning To Feature Films For New Channing Tatum Project?

soderbergh-tatum

Oscar-winning director Steven Soderbergh (Erin Brockovich, Ocean’s Eleven) surprised everyone when he announced that he would be stepping away from big-screen features after 2013’s Side Effects. Recent news, however, has him coming out of retirement after spending the last few years on his work in television, like HBO’s Behind the Candelabra. Soderbergh will supposedly come back to direct his long-time friend and collaborator Channing Tatum (Magic Mike, 21 Jump Street) in a new film called Lucky Logan. No information is yet available regarding the script, and Tatum is the only confirmed cast member, although Matt Damon (The Bourne Supremacy, The Martian) was initially rumored to be starring in Tatum’s role. With a script, lead actor, and director already in place, pre-production should get underway fairly quickly, but we’ll keep you updated on further announcements.

star wars 8

Last week Disney/Lucasfilm announced that the release of Star Wars Episode 8 would be pushed back from May to December 2017, owing to delayed production and script re-writes by director Rian Johnson (The Brothers Bloom, Looper). Filming on the new movie is expected to begin soon, but in the meantime, some rival production companies have had to rearrange their plans for some of their upcoming big releases. Director James Cameron (Terminator 2: Judgement Day, Titanic) is still currently set to begin filming all three of his upcoming Avatar sequels simultaneously at the end of this year, but Avatar 2, having already been moved back from release in December 2016 to December 2017, is now being pushed back again, with no release yet in sight. New Big Screen Adaptation of ‘Goosebumps’ With Jack Black Opening In Theaters Today

Those of us who grew up in the 90s (which is pretty much all of us) remember watching the popular television adaptation of author R.L. Stine‘s short story collection, titled Goosebumps. Now, 20 years later, a feature-length film adaptation of the popular series is opening in theaters across the country today. Starring Jack Black (School of Rock, Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny) as R.L. Stine, himself, the film, simply titled Goosebumps, follows a young urban teenager who moves to a small town and meets the real R.L. Stine. As it turns out, the monsters in Stine’s stories are real, and he has spent his life protecting his readers from them by entrapping them in his book, hence the reason behind his madness. All that is thrown into havoc, however, when our young city dweller shows up and unintentionally releases the monsters and they begin to terrorize the town, leaving it up to Stine and his new teenage acquaintances to stop them. The film is directed by Rob Letterman (Shark Tale, Gulliver’s Travels) and penned by screenwriters Darren Lemke (Shrek Forever After, Jack the Giant Slayer), and writing partners Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski (Ed Wood, Big Eyes). Appearing in the supporting cast are actors Dylan Minnette (Let Me In, Prisoners), Odeya Rush (The Odd Life of Timothy Green, The Giver), Ryan Lee (Super 8, This is 40), and Oscar-nominee Amy Ryan (Gone Baby Gone, Birdman or The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance). The trailer is available here on MADE. Also opening in theaters today are the films Truth, All Things Must Pass, and Steven Spielberg’s Bridge of Spies. Enjoy the weekend!
