2014 was a great year for a lot of artists in both Minneapolis and Chicago. Now that our Top 14 Albums of 2014 list has concluded, it’s only right that we share some of our favorites that didn’t make the cut. Below you’ll find a list of such albums, ranging across the hip hop spectrum. Check out the list and dig in to some good music.
Finding Novyon – “Where’s Novyon”/”Keep Going”
Devon Reason – “Reasonable”
Manny Phesto – “Southside Looking In”
Muja Messiah – “God Kissed It, The Devil Missed It”
Manny Phesto dropped a new visual today for his track “Rabbit Hole” off of his latest project Southside Looking In. The video was directed by Alan De Leon Taverna and features some trippy visuals. Shadow puppets provide the scene while a kaleidoscope like effect provides a vibrant backdrop. Both Manny & Greazy put forth a pair of dope verses while Mike The Martyr hits us again with another dope beat. Definitely one of our favorite tracks from Southside Looking In, peep the video above and check out Southside Looking In below if you haven’t yet.
A few days back, Southside spitter Manny Phesto dropped a new visual for his track, “Cedar Ave” off of his latest project, Southside Looking In. Directed by Morningside Films, the visual is just as genuine as the song it portrays, no hoes, no flashy whips; just dope rhymes over some heat from Mike The Martyr. Paying homage to Cedar Ave, Manny reminisces as he coasts near Powderhorn (Winner Gas). Check out the visual above and be on the look out for more from Manny Phesto as the summer moves along.
A few weeks after dropping his project Southside Looking In, Manny Phesto is back with the visual for his track “Eternity In The Cities”. Directed by Abhinav of Cherry Sky Studios, the video coasts along as Manny takes us on a smoke filled cruise around Minneapolis. The visual fits Mike the Martyr’s (cameo) production well making for a smooth ride as the crew changes scenery, Manny’s flow simply seals the package. Peep the video above and click the link below to check out Southside Looking In if you haven’t yet.
If you’ve been out and about in the past few weeks then you’ve probably seen the above cover on a Southside corner. Manny Phesto recently released his new project Southside Lookin In for all of our listening pleasure. The album is entirely produced by Mike the Martyr and features a few of Minneapolis’ best including: Greg Grease, Metasota, Akrite & Mike the Martyr himself. A solid body of work from one of the Twin Cities vets, a vivid picture into Minneapolis’ Southside. Peep the album below and make sure to be on the look out for more from Manny Phesto as he prepares for his release party in June.
As the release of Southside Looking In stands a few days away, Manny Phesto has released his 3rd single entitled “Full Scoop”. The track features an ill beat from Minneapolis’ own Mike The Martyr and also sees a verse from Akrite. Manny always holds it down, definitely excited to hear his new project later this week. Peep the record below and keep an eye out for Southside Looking In on the 18th.
