Watch The Star Wars Saga In “Machete Order” Before ‘The Last Jedi’ Opens This Friday

As you are no doubt aware, the next installment in the latest Star Wars trilogy, The Last Jedi (Episode VIII), is opening in theaters nationwide this Thursday, December 14th at midnight. Whether or not it will be a frame-by-frame remake of The Empire Strikes Back (1980), like The Force Awakens and A New Hope (1977), has yet to be seen, but fans will undoubtedly be packing theaters to capacity from Friday until well into the New Year. If you already have a ticket for opening weekend, then let us know what you think. If not, however, you can still get your Star Wars fix by taking a brief (and by brief, I mean roughly 12-14 hours) refresher course with watching the series in “Machete Order.” Let me explain.

The Machete Order was first suggested by a fan of the series named Rob Hilton in preparation for the release of 2015’s The Force Awakens. According to Hilton, the machete order is a more effective way of watching the previous films, particularly for young viewers who are not familiar with the series. Obviously, with seven feature-length films and an eighth coming out this week, knowing where to start to get the full experience can be an overwhelming ordeal. Should you begin with the original trilogy and work your way up, or should you start with 1999’s The Phantom Menace and proceed chronologically? Continue reading

We’ve been waiting for some time on more news of Don Cheadle‘s upcoming directorial debut Miles Ahead. The last news we had heard was that Cheadle (Hotel Rwanda, Crash) was still seeking financial support for the film, and from what we now know, I guess he got what he was looking for. The film is currently in the post-production stages and official news now reports that Miles Ahead will be the closing film for this year’s New York Film Festival, which will be celebrating it’s 53rd Anniversary this year. Obviously legendary musician Miles Davis, whose career gained much of its momentum in New York City, is the focus of the film, and Cheadle, who co-wrote the screenplay, will be starring in the lead role opposite Emayatzy Corinealdi (Middle of Nowhere, Addicted) and Ewan McGregor (Big Fish, Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith). The New York Film Festival takes place between September 25th and October 17th this year. A full list of films will be forthcoming soon, but Back to the Future and Forrest Gump director Robert Zemeckis’ The Walk will be the festival opener on September 25th, so if you happen to be in the big apple this fall, consider stopping by and seeing one of the films that are playing. Enjoy!

New Trailer For ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Features First Appearance Of Harrison Ford And Chewbacca

Back during the Holiday 2014 season director J.J. Abrams (Star Trek, Super 8) released a teaser trailer for his upcoming and long-awaited sequel to Return of the Jedi, Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Now with production well underway and the Christmas 2015 release date slowly (but surely) approaching, Abrams has graced us with a new trailer, revealing some impressive cinematic backdrops linking this sequel to George Lucas‘ original series, and bringing back some familiar series-faces to the screen. Making cameo’s in the new trailer is the droid, R2-D2 (who has appeared in every Star Wars film since the original in 1977), and Han Solo and his Wookie companion, Chewbacca, portrayed once again by Harrison Ford (Blade Runner, Clear and Present Danger) and Peter Mayhew (Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back). Actor Kenny Baker (The Elephant Man, Time Bandits) is also back to play R2-D2, along with Mark Hamill (Slipstream, Midnight Ride), Carrie Fisher (The Blues Brothers, When Harry Met Sally), and Anthony Daniels (Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith). Abrams co-wrote the new film with screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan (Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Bodyguard) for Walt Disney Pictures and Lucasfilm Ltd. Fans will have to wait until December 18th, but I’m sure there will be plenty of trailers released before then to appease their appetites!

Final Installment In ‘The Hobbit’ Series Opens In Theaters This December

The third and final installment in Peter Jackson‘s new film trilogy The Hobbit is scheduled to open in theaters this December 17th. Subtitled The Battle of the Five Armies, the movie will close out the over-extended film adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien‘s pre-Lord of the Rings adventure that follows the hobbit Bilbo Baggins after he is recruited by the wizard, Gandalf, to assist Thorin and his band of dwarfs in reclaiming a lost treasure from the ancient dragon Smaug. The first two installments were subtitled An Unexpected Journey and The Desolation of Smaug, and brought back from Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy actors Ian McKellen (Gandalf-X2: X-Men United, The Da Vinci Code), Cate Blanchett (Galadriel-The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Elizabeth: The Golden Age), Orlando Bloom (Legolas-Pirates of the Caribbean, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring), Christopher Lee (Saruman-Sleepy Hollow, Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith), Hugo Weaving (Elrond-The Matrix, V for Vendetta), and Ian Holm (older Bilbo-Alien, The Fifth Element). Jackson adapted the screenplay for The Hobbit movies with returning Lord of the Rings collaborators Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, and writer/director Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy). Some cinemas will be playing all three Hobbit films this holiday season to celebrate the Battle of the Five Armies release, and there are rumors flying around all over the web that a teaser trailer for J.J. Abrams upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be played during the previews for The Hobbit. So if you are a fan of Jackson or Tolkien by all means go and catch the final film on the big screen this holiday season. You can watch the trailer right here on MADE.
