Last year’s hit-comedy, Top Five, proved to be a major accomplishment for writer/director/actor Chris Rock, so much so that he is now being pressured by producer Scott Rudin to get a follow up in the theaters as soon as possible. Rock revealed to The Guardian in a recent interview that he and Rudin are having meetings on the subject on a weekly basis, and that he is planning on using a majority of the Top Five cast for the new project. Some names that have already been mentioned include Leslie Jones (The League, Workaholics), Tracy Morgan (30 Rock, Cop-Out), and Jerry Seinfeld (Seinfeld, Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee), but nothing as far as casting goes is set in stone, and Top Five had a huge repertoire of stars to write a sequel for, such as Gabrielle Union (Bad Boys 2, Cadillac Records), Rosario Dawson (Clerks 2, Sin City), Kevin Hart (Think Like A Man, Get Hard), Whoopi Goldberg (Ghost, Sister-Act), and Adam Sandler (Grown-Ups, Pixels). We’ll keep an eye out for further updates.

‘Captain Phillips’ Director Paul Greengrass To Helm New Adaptation Of George Orwell’s ‘1984’

Matt Damon recently announced that he and director Paul Greengrass would be reuniting for another Jason Bourne adventure, but the director has more on his upcoming schedule than another endeavor into familiar territory. Greengrass (Green Zone, Captain Phillips) is in talks at Sony Pictures to direct a new adaptation of George Orwell’s frighteningly predictive novel 1984. The book was published in 1948 and takes place in the midst of a futuristic war where surveillance technology is virtually unavoidable to the general public, very appropriate in our modern world where surveillance is a constant subject of controversy and federal agencies are under high scrutiny for surveillance methods that may or may not be morally sound. Greengrass will direct the project from a screen adaptation by James Graham, and Scott Rudin, who worked with Greengrass on Captain Phillips in 2013, will produce the project at Sony. Thus far there are no actors attached to the film. Stay tuned.

Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg To Write/Direct ‘Console Wars’

Comedian Seth Rogen has been working with writer and producer Evan Goldberg since 2007, when Knocked Up and Super Bad helped bring Rogen into the Hollywood spotlight, and they have continued their collaborative efforts with hits including Pineapple Express (2008), Funny People (2009), 50/50 (2011), and most recently, last year’s outrageous apocalypse-spoof This Is The End. They are presently finishing production on Neighbors and The Interview, both which are due out later this year, while simultaneously working on their upcoming animated comedy Sausage Party and producing another film called Cherries. Needless to say they keep themselves pretty busy, and they plan on keeping themselves busy. The two will be adapting a book called Console Wars by Blake J. Harris, with Scott Rudin also helping out with production duties. The book is the story of Tom Kalinske, who brought the Sega industry to the same level as Nintendo and sparked a corporate controversy that spanned the entire globe for the duration of the 1990s, as the two companies brought their competition all the way to the U.S. Congress. No idea when this one will be coming out, but it might be worth seeing.
