After nine years away, Jason Bourne is returning to the big screen in the fifth installment in the Bourne series. The new film is simply titled Jason Bourne and reunites original lead Matt Damon (Good Will Hunting, The Departed) with Bourne Ultimatum director Paul Greengrass (United 93, Captain Phillips). New Trailer For Upcoming ‘Jason Bourne’ Sequel Now Available

Sunday night saw a decent amount of new movie trailers played during the 50th celebration of America’s favorite athletic pastime, the Super Bowl. One of these new trailers was a new preview for the upcoming Jason Bourne installment that will reunite director Paul Greengrass (United 93, Captain Phillips) with original actor Matt Damon (The Departed, The Martian) in what will simply be titled Jason Bourne. The two will share writing credits with screenwriter Christopher Rouse (The Italian Job, Greenzone), who has also worked on The Bourne Supremacy (2004) and The Bourne Ultimatum (2007). Also returning from the original film series is actress Julia Stiles (The Omen, Silver Linings Playbook), who is joined by newcomers Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina, The Man from UNCLE), Tommy Lee Jones (No Country For Old Men, Lincoln), Vincent Cassel (Ocean’s Twelve, Black Swan), Riz Ahmed (Nightcrawler, Star Wars: Rogue One), and Ato Essandoh (Blood Diamond, Django Unchained). No details are yet available on the plot, except that Tommy Lee Jones plays the new CIA station chief attempting to track down Jason Bourne, who disappeared at the conclusion of The Bourne Ultimatum. The movie is expected in theaters on July 29th. Check out the new trailer here on MADE.

Oscar-winner Tommy Lee Jones will be joining Matt Damon in the upcoming fifth installment in the ‘Jason Bourne’ series, thus far only titled Bourne 5. Captain Phillips and Bourne Ultimatum director Paul Greengrass will be returning to helm the project, which will also star series veteran Julia Stiles (The Bourne Supremacy, Silver Linings Playbook), Viggo Mortensen (The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, Hidalgo), and Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina, The Man from U.N.C.L.E.). Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass will be writing the film along with returning Bourne screenwriter Christopher Rouse (The Italian Job, The Bourne Ultimatum), but no details regarding the plot are known at this time. Producer Frank Marshall (Indiana Jones-Raiders of the Lost Ark, Back to the Future) will produce with Jeffery Weiner under Captivate Entertainment. Stay tuned for more news!

Next Bourne Installment Moved Up To Summer 2016 Release In Place Of ‘Apes 3’

Twentieth Century Fox recently moved their upcoming sequel to Dawn of the Planet of the Apes from July 2016 to the next July in 2017. With this move, the vacated release-spot has been filled by Universal Pictures, moving their upcoming Jason Bourne sequel that will reunite Matt Damon (The Departed, Interstellar) with director Paul Greengrass (Green Zone, Captain Phillips) into this date instead. This will push the Bourne release back by a couple of weeks, but also provide virtually no competition for that opening weekend, so it could turn out to be a really profitable switch. Damon and Greengrass are currently writing the screenplay for the film with producer Christopher Rouse, but there is no word yet as to whether or not the movie will follow the previous installment, The Bourne Legacy, with series newcomer Jeremy Renner (The Avengers, American Hustle). The Bourne Legacy was directed by series screenwriter Tony Gilroy, taking over for Greengrass who directed Damon in both the preceding movies The Bourne Supremacy (2004) and The Bourne Ultimatum (2007), but now Greengrass is back on board to direct and Gilroy has, as of now, fallen away from the series.
