There is a plethora of limited releases opening in theaters across the country this weekend that you should definitely consider checking out. First up is a new musical drama from director John Carney (Once, Begin Again) titled Sing Street, which follows a group of young Dubliners in 1980s London who decide to form a band while experiencing the ups and downs of youth, life, and rock and roll. New Amy Berg Documentary ‘Janis: Little Girl Blue’ Opening In Theaters Friday November 27th

A new music-documentary from director Amy Berg (West of Memphis, An Open Secret) titled Janis: Little Girl Blue is opening in theaters this Friday, November 27th. The last we heard news of this project was back in October, when it was to be headlined (among other contenders like Trumbo, Black Mass, and Spotlight) at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it was an Offical Selection winner. The film also received Official Selection at this years Festival de Rio and BFI London Film Festival. Featuring Cat Power (V for Vendetta, Boyhood) as the narrator, the film takes a close look at the life of blues/rock-n-roll star Janis Joplin and her roll as a woman and key figure in the Rock-n-Roll movement through personal letters she wrote to friends, family, and fellow musicians. RIO – Weekend at Arnie’s

A few days ago, Chicago rapper RIO dropped a new single from off of his new album, Trying To Be Human. “Weekend at Arnie’s” details a relationship with a young lady who “works hard” for her money, getting paid however it takes. RIO continues to drop substance with his music, his full length is now available for those interested in taking a deeper look. Chicago artist Rio recently dropped a new track from his upcoming project, Trying To Be Human. Titled “DRUG$”, the record’s vibrant instrumental compliments Rio’s style well. Lyrics laced with memories of wild nights and the influences behind them, “DRUG$” can be related to by anyone who has ever had a crazy night or two. With the release of Try To Be Human set for next Tuesday, February 17th; it’ll be interesting to hear more from Rio. Check out “DRUG$” below and keep an eye out for the album next week.

The annual Kimball House party goes down this weekend and the lineup is absolutely nuts. As if a bangin party wasn’t enough, there will be performances from Fess Grandiose, Netherfriends, Auggie The 9th, Hurt Everybody, Rio, Rich Jones, Sev Seveer and MORE. If THAT isn’t enough, the event is FREE. If you’re looking for something to do, look no further, we attended the 3rd one and it was a good ass time.

It’s been awhile since we’ve heard from RIO, but dude just changed all of that. With his long awaited tape Trying To Be Human waiting in the wing, RIO links up with Cody DeCamry & Chris Crack on his new track “All Chrome”. This one’s a banger and definitely allows each artist the room they need to flex their lyrical abilities. RIO is a cool ass dude and the homie Cody DeCamry is just now getting back to what he does best, hopefully we’ll have A LOT more of this coming our way in the near future. The homie Cody DeCamry & the Rooflife guys will be holding a holiday party tomorrow. The event is going down at Tonic Room starting at 8PM with free Bacardi for partygoers between 8:30PM & 9:30PM. As far as music goes the line up is packed with Second City Citizens, Chris Crack & The New Deal Crew, MC Everest & Raps Instant Obsession all taking the stage among others. This one’s most likely going to be 21+ (sorry kids), if you’re in the CHI make sure to get out for this one and party with Cody DeCamry for his b-day.
