For those die hard fans of the Star Wars film series, May 4th is always a special occasion. It was on May 25th, 1977 that A New Hope, the first ever Star Wars film from writer/director George Lucas made its theatrical debut. The event marked the beginning of a new phenomenon in modern cinema, and changed the way movies were made and even thought of from then on. Drawing from inspiration from early space adventure serials, George Lucas envisioned a modern space epic using classic themes and archetypes that would forever change the movie-going experience. His company, Industrial Lights and Magic, which would go on to create Pixar Animation in the 1990s, created new methods for special effects that gave movie-goers an experience never before seen on film. To celebrate this special fan day, here is the latest trailer for the next installation in the film series, The Last Jedi, which will feature original actors Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher as Luke and Leia Skywalker, along with new vets Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Issac, Adam Driver, and Domhnall Gleeson. Enjoy, and May the Fourth Be With You!
*Update – this article originally stated that A New Hope was released on May 4th, 1977, hence part of the reasoning behind “May-the-Fourth Day.” A New Hope actually hit theaters on May 25th of that year, just in time for Memorial Day Weekend. My apologies for the inaccuracy!
This year’s Tribeca Film Festival will not only be remembered for its impressive array of films, but also for a number of controversial firsts. An airline commercial was pulled from showing, reporters were infuriated to find James Franco and Shai LaBeouf absent from a red carpet premiere, and the new Immersive Storyscapes feature allowed audiences to experience virtual reality in an all new way. As if all that wasn’t enough, the 2017 celebration wrapped with special showings and cast reunions for two of the biggest films in history: Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs and Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather. The 16th annual Tribeca Film Festival is once again underway in New York City. Entries in this year’s festival include films from 28 countries, which are being shown from April 19th to April 30th. The festival has already seen a fair share of controversy this year. Photographers and reporters were incensed to find some lesser known actors walking on the red carpet wearing masks of James Franco, Shia LaBeouf, and Greta Gerwig instead of the actors themselves for the premiere of the film Flames. In addition, a commercial for United Airlines, which was originally scheduled to appear at the festival, was pulled from the line up after the controversy surrounding Dr. David Dao being violently dragged off one of their flights. Despite a fair share of controversy, which has always been typical of the Hollywood scene, there have been some impressive displays at this year’s festivities. Continue reading →

Devil’s Advocate is a one of a kind establishment in downtown Minneapolis. First off, the restaurant has 40 beers on tap, which come from all around the world. Every week, Devil’s Advocate finds a way to bring in a great mixture of brews into their door, leaving beer connoisseurs coming back for more; the fun doesn’t stop here though.
DA has a very unique menu, allowing its wide variety of beers to be paired well with their delicious food. Those who come to eat at DA, they think of their world class meatballs. You have never had real meatballs until you have tried these wonderfully scrumptious…balls. They offer falafel, pork meatballs, polenta, buffalo meatbealls and many other dishes that don’t feature the ball.
Whether you are coming in for a quick bite, or simply looking for a new brew to try, Devil’s Advocate does it as well as anyone else.

Bauhaus Brew Labs. Aesthetically pleasing, tasty brews, all tucked neatly in the heart of the Brew District (NE Minneapolis). If you were to ask me what my favorite brewery is to attend, it is now Bauhaus Brew Labs. With open space, a large covered outdoor area with lights hanging overhead; it is the perfect place to go with larger groups.
Bauhaus also has an outdoor/indoor stage for live music, board games, bag toss, and a kid play area. These are all things that make this brewery unique to the scene around it. Just a block down from 612 Brew, placed alongside the railroad tracks, Bauhaus Brew Labs is just the new brewery we needed to liven up the brewery scene yet again.
Corbin/Spooky Black recently took to Soundcloud to release some new music for his starving fans. The often low key, internet sensation is kind of like a ghost in the Twin Cities. Omnipresent on the inter-webs, but very rarely seen in public, especially when not performing. He’s back with an ethereal new record in “Destrooy,” the song sounds like how I imagine heroin feels. Dark, but bleeding with vibrant waves of emotion, Corbin’s droning vocals blend with the production like watercolors. Right on point, there’s a reason “Destrooy has surpassed 120K plays in 24 hours; check it out for yourself above and stay tuned for more from Corbin.
