Oscar Winning Composer James Horner Dies In Plane Crash At Age 61

horner

The Oscar-winning composer behind such famous scores as Titanic, Field of Dreams, Apollo 13, and A Perfect Storm, James Horner, has died at the age of 61 in Santa Barbara, California. Horner was flying a small single-engine aircraft when the plane went down, killing him and potentially another passenger. Horner’s reputation in Hollywood was impeccable; he was a long-time collaborator with director James Cameron (Titanic, Avatar) and producer Roger Corman (The Lady in Red, Battle Beyond the Stars), and was nominated for 10 Academy Awards (winning 2 for Titanic) and also won 4 Grammy’s (from a total of 11 nominations) for his work on Celine Dion‘s My Heart Will Go On and Linda Ronstadt and James Ingram‘s Somewhere Out There. Horner’s most recent work include Antione Fuqua‘s upcoming boxing drama Southpaw with Jake Gyllenhaal, Rachel McAdams, and Naomie Harris, and The 33, a drama revolving around the coal-mining disaster in which 33 miners were trapped underground for 69 days. These will become Horner’s final projects; Southpaw is due out July 24th, while The 33 is expected in theaters November 13th, 2015. His work, his passion for music and his influence on film will be truly missed.

Watch The New Trailer For Upcoming Bond Film ‘Spectre’ With Daniel Craig

The new trailer for the upcoming 24th installment in the James Bond franchise, titled Spectre, debuted during Game 3 of the 2015 NBA Playoffs this week. Once again starring Daniel Craig (Road to Perdition, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) in the title role, the film will bring Craig’s Bond story full circle as he finally comes face-to-face with the secret organization he has been hunting since his first outing in Casino Royale. If you’re not familiar with the series history, let me clue-you-in. In author Ian Fleming‘s original Bond novels, and the original Sean Connery films in the 1960s, Bond was always faced with a scheme carried out by a different member of the SPECTRE organization, whose leader was revealed as Ernst Stavro Blofeld in You Only Live Twice (1967), and who remained Bond’s primary nemesis until Connery’s last series appearance in Diamonds Are Forever (1971). The character and organization essentially disappeared from the series after Roger Moore took over the part for Live and Let Die (1973). The new film, Spectre, will now bring Bond back to his roots, as the new plot finds him tracking the scope of the organization’s reach in Britain’s political system while M struggles to keep the secret service from being dismantled. Returning to reprise their roles from Skyfall are actors Ralph Fiennes (The Constant Gardener, The Grand Budapest Hotel), Naomie Harris (28 Days Later, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest), and Ben Whishaw (I’m Not There, Cloud Atlas), along with new cast members Dave Bautista (Riddick, Guardians of the Galaxy), Monica Bellucci (Malena, The Matrix Reloaded), Lea Seydoux (Inglorious Basterds, Blue Is The Warmest Color), and Oscar-winner Christoph Waltz (Django Unchained, Big Eyes). Skyfall director Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Revolutionary Road) is returning to direct the new film from a screenplay by John Logan (Gladiator, The Aviator), and writing-team Neal Purvis and Robert Wade (The World is Not Enough, Die Another Day). The movie is due out in theaters this November. Enjoy the trailer!

‘S.P.E.C.T.R.E.’ Is Announced As The Title Of The 24th Bond Film

Daniel Craig as Ian Fleming’s James Bond 007.

We finally have something to call the upcoming James Bond installment other than “Bond 24”. Eon Productions Ltd recently announced that the new film would bring the Bond franchise back full circle with the title S.P.E.C.T.R.E., the name of the organization Bond originally battled in author Ian Fleming‘s original novels. The first Bond film, Dr. No (1962), was the first to introduce the organization as Bond’s primary antagonist, and Sean Connery’s Bond films would continue with Fleming’s direct material until Roger Moore took over with Live and Let Die in 1973. S.P.E.C.T.R.E.‘s plot will follow Bond and M (played by Daniel Craig and Ralph Fiennes respectively) as they fight to keep the British Secret Service from being destroyed from within by the schemes of a mysterious organization. S.P.E.C.T.R.E. stands for Special Executive for Counter-Intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge, and Extortion. The cast will once again feature Ben Whishaw and Naomie Harris as Q and Moneypenny, as well as Christoph Waltz (Django Unchained, Inglorious Basterds), Dave Bautista (Riddick, Guardians of the Galaxy), Monica Bellucci (The Matrix Reloaded, The Whistleblower), and Lea Seydoux (Blue Is The Warmest Color, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Skyfall director Sam Mendes will return to direct and the film has been scheduled for release in November 2015. Stay tuned.

Christoph Waltz Joining Cast Of Next Bond Installment With Daniel Craig

waltz

We recently learned that wrestler-turned-actor Dave Bautista will be joining the cast of the upcoming James Bond installment from director Sam Mendes, which already includes Daniel Craig, Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, and Ben Whishaw, and now more casting news has come out of The Daily Mail from writer Baz Bamigboye. The news is that Inglorious Bastards and Django Unchained star Christoph Waltz will be taking a role in the new film as well, although it is not clear whether or not Waltz will step into his usual villainous shoes next to Bautista, or be stepping into some other role. The actor can currently be seen in Horrible Bosses 2. Production on the film is expected to begin this December with an array of filming locales already on the schedule, including Morocco, Austria (Waltz is originally from Austria), Italy, London, and Mexico. Stay tuned for more news.

Wrestler Dave Bautista Will Appear As Villain Henchmen In Next Bond Film

dave

Stepping away from all of the crazy comic-movie news we’ve been following lately, we now have more news about another upcoming sequel from the longest-running franchise in film history. Wrestler-turned-actor Dave Bautista raised a few impressed eyebrows with his role in this summer’s Guardians of the Galaxy, so much so that Eon Productions Ltd. has approached him about playing the villain in the upcoming James Bond film with Daniel Craig. Bautista will be up for the role of the henchman Hinx, who will reportedly be a combination of past Bond villains Jaws (portrayed by Richard Kiel in The Spy Who Loved Me opposite Roger Moore) and Oddjob (portrayed by Harold Sakata opposite Sean Connery in Goldfinger). There is also news that the actress joining the film will be Lea Seydoux (Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, Inglorious Bastards), who joins the ever growing list of “Bond Girls” that includes Ursula Andress, Jane Seymour, Maud Adams, Tanya Roberts, Carey Lowell, Famke Janssen, Teri Hatcher, Denise Richards, Halle Berry, Rosamund Pike, and Eva Green. She and Bautista join the cast that also includes Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, and Ben Whishaw. The film is set to be released in theaters in November 2015, so filming with returning Skyfall director Sam Mendes will be getting underway very soon. Stay tuned for more news.

Bond 24 Production Delayed Due To Script Rewrite

bond

After already delaying the project to wait for director Sam Mendes to return to the series, Eon Productions Ltd. is again facing a delay on the 24th Bond film due to script rewrites from Neal Purvis and Robert Wayde. The two writers took over the responsibility from Skyfall writer John Logan, who will lend a hand on the rewrites. And while producers Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli still have to cast a villain and leading lady (or ladies considering Bond always has more than one), filming may have to be pushed back to December, even though the release is still scheduled for November 2015. Daniel Craig and Ralph Fiennes are still expected to return to the series, and hopefully Ben Whishaw and Naomie Harris will both be reprising Q and MoneyPenny, but thus far that’s all we know. Stay tuned.

Director Sam Mendes Returning For Bond 24

skyfall

After much speculation as to who would take over directing duties for the next Bond film after Skyfall director Sam Mendes initially said he would not be returning for another installment, fans of the franchise will be excited to hear that Mendes has decided to direct the next movie after all. Mendes was skeptical about returning at first because the plan was to make another two-part movie, much like Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace were made as a two-part story line. Mendes brought the original franchise characters of M, Moneypenny, and Q back to their origins in Skyfall, and now the chance to continue their stories has brought Mendes a newfound interest in returning to the series. The next film will be a solitary story line following these timeless characters and is currently scheduled for theatrical release in November 2015. Daniel Craig, Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, and Ben Whishaw will all reprise their roles, so it should make for a modern Bond film with a twist of original character development all in one movie!
