Memorable Movie Moments…

Today’s Memorable Movie Moment takes us back to 1978, for the excellent cinematography in a film called Days of Heaven. Written and directed by 3x Oscar nominee Terrence Malick (The Thin Red Line, The Tree of Life), Days of Heaven is an American epic that follows a young couple, Bill and Abby, during the Expansionist era in 1916. Moving from Chicago to Texas in search of work, the two become involved in a scheme to have Abby marry a wealthy farmer who is close to death in order to gain his fortune. This, of course doesn’t go according to plan and so a dramatic conflict of jealousy and deceit ensues, loosely based on a backstory that first appeared in Alexander DumasThe Three Musketeers.

Starring Richard Gere (An Officer and a Gentlemen, Pretty Woman), Brooke Adams (Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Dead Zone), and Sam Shepard (Swordfish, Black Hawk Down), the film received Oscar nominations for Best Costume Design, Best Sound, and Best Music – Original Score. Although it failed to win any of these awards, Days of Heaven did receive the Oscar for Best Cinematography for Nestor Almendros. Continue reading

New Comedy Sequel ‘Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising’ Opening In Theaters This Friday

Seth Rogen (Pineapple Express, The Interview), Rose Byrne (X-Men: First Class, Get Him To The Greek), and Zac Efron (That Awkward Moment, We Are Your Friends) are back for another run as enemy neighbors in a sequel to the 2014 comedy hit, Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising. This time around, with the fraternity moved out, a sorority moves in, and Mac and Kelly must team up with their late frat-enemy, Teddy, in order to handle the new rowdy neighbors. Personally I don’t understand why you wouldn’t want a house-full of college girls right next door, but anything for the sake of comedy I guess. Director Nicholas Stoller (Forgetting Sarah Marshall, The Five-Year Engagement) leads the returning cast along side actors Chloe Grace Moretz (Carrie, The Equalizer), Selena Gomez (Monte Carlo, Hotel Transylvania), Dave Franco (21 Jump Street, Unfinished Business), and Lisa Kudrow (Friends, Analyze This). The trailer is here on MADE. Catch it in theaters this Friday.

Josh Trank’s New ‘Fantastic Four’ Movie Now Playing In Theaters

Today the comic world will get the chance to redeem a classic comic film adaptation that was all but ruined with the original attempts 10 years ago with Jessica Alba and Michael Chiklis. The all new Fantastic Four film from director Josh Trank (The Kill Point, Chronicle) is now playing in theaters, and fans everywhere are in high hopes that the new film will redeem the popularity of the series after a sequel to 2007’s Rise of the Silver Surfer never made it to the big screen. Making up the new group of heros are actors Miles Teller (The Spectacular Now, Divergent), Michael B. Jordan (Fruitvale Station, That Awkward Moment), Kate Mara (Iron Man 2, Transcendence), and Jamie Bell (Billy Elliot, King Kong), with Reg E. Cathey (American Psycho, House of Cards), Toby Kebbell (Wrath of the Titans, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) and Tim Blake Nelson (Oh Brother Where Art Thou?, Lincoln) joining the supporting cast. Director Trank wrote the screenplay for the new film with writers Simon Kinberg (Sherlock Holmes, X-Men: Days of Future Past) and Jeremy Slater (The Lazarus Effect), which sees the group of youngsters transported to an alternate dimension, strangely altering their physical compositions and providing them with abilities they will need to save the world from a former friend-turned-enemy after he followed them through the dimensional shift. The trailer is available here on MADE. Enjoy!

Next Installation in ‘Divergent’ Series Opening In Theaters March 20th

The next installation in the Divergent series, Insurgent, will be opening in theaters this March 20th. Starring Shailene Woodley (The Fault in our Stars, Snowden), Theo James (The In-betweeners Movie, Underworld:Awakening), Miles Teller (That Awkward Moment, Whiplash), Ansel Elgort (Carrie, Men Women & Children), Naomi Watts (King Kong, The Ring), Kate Winslet (Titanic, The Life of David Gale), and Jai Courtney (A Good Day To Die Hard, Unbroken), the story continues to follow the character of Beatrice Prior as she endures in her struggle against the alliance and the warring factions that threatens to destroy the whole society in their plot to wipe-out the divergents. The films are based on the novel-series by author Veronica Roth, but this time out the book was adapted by screenwriters Brian Duffield, Akiva Goldsman, and Mark Bomback. Director Robert Schwentke (Flightplan, The Time Traveler’s Wife) took over on this installment for Divergent director Neil Burger. Check out the trailer here on MADE.

Seth Rogen, Rose Byrne, And Zac Efron Returning For ‘Neighbors 2’ Summer 2016

Universal Pictures has announced that a sequel to their worldwide box-office hit Neighbors has been given a green-light and has been set for release on May 13th, 2016. The sequel will bring back original cast members Seth Rogen (Knocked Up, The Interview), Rose Byrne (X-Men:First Class, Get Him To The Greek), and Zac Efron (Parkland, That Awkward Moment), as well as director Nicholas Stoller (Forgetting Sarah Marshall, The Five-Year Engagement) and original writers Andrew Jay Cohen and Brendan O’Brien, who thus far will only serve as executive producers. The project is still early in production, and a script or even a screenwriter has yet to be found, but I’m sure many would just as soon not see a sequel made at all. Given the context and originality of the first film it’s going to be difficult to come up with a sequel that’s actually worth making, but if Universal thinks they can rake in another $250 million by making a sequel, then that’s exactly what they’ll do. Stay tuned.
