With the summer movie calendar quickly drawing near, new trailers are starting to fill up television spots and the pre-feature trailers at the movie theaters in abundance. One such trailer is the second for the highly-anticipated Captain America: Civil War, which will open on big screens on May 6th, 2016. The new movie follows the story-line established with Avengers 2, Iron Man 3, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, this time finding the Avengers split between leading members Steve Rogers/Captain America (Chris Evans) and Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), who disagree over new sanctions that the government wishes to install in order to monitor the team of heros and “prevent any further widespread damage or casualties” as a result of their efforts. Rumors are flying around Hollywood about directing brothers Anthony and Joe Russo stepping in to lead the upcoming two-part installment in The Avengers series, Infinity War, which will be released in 2018 and 2019, respectively, following this year’s upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron. Production on the project is already expected to begin next year and carry over with filming into 2017, but there are no screenwriters officially committed to writing the film (although Captain America writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely are rumored to be in talks to pen the script) and the cast will likely not be completely revealed until we see Age of Ultron hit theaters this May. There are also big rumors surrounding Disney‘s upcoming Star Wars installments with the goal being to release a new movie every consecutive year from now until 2020. J.J. Abrams is currently trying to finish production on the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Disney already has Rian Johnson (Looper, Breaking Bad) directing Episode VIII for 2017, but the new rumor is that Abrams may return to direct the final installment in the three-part series, even though he is not involved with the production on Episode VIII. Whatever the case, this is still all speculation, so we’ll have to continue to wait for more official news. Stay tuned.
