New Trailer Available For ‘Captain America: Civil War’

With the summer movie calendar quickly drawing near, new trailers are starting to fill up television spots and the pre-feature trailers at the movie theaters in abundance. One such trailer is the second for the highly-anticipated Captain America: Civil War, which will open on big screens on May 6th, 2016. The new movie follows the story-line established with Avengers 2, Iron Man 3, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, this time finding the Avengers split between leading members Steve Rogers/Captain America (Chris Evans) and Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), who disagree over new sanctions that the government wishes to install in order to monitor the team of heros and “prevent any further widespread damage or casualties” as a result of their efforts. As expected, the movie is loaded with the all-star cast of familiar faces, including Scarlett Johansson (Lucy, Hail! Caesar) and Jeremy Renner (American Hustle, The Bourne Legacy). Continue reading

New Tina Fey Comedy ‘Whiskey Tango Foxtrot’ Opening In Theaters This Friday

A new wartime comedy starring Tina Fey (30 Rock, Sisters) and Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street, Focus) titled Whiskey Tango Foxtrot is opening in theaters this Friday, March 4th. The film is an adaptation of author Kim Barker’s novel The Taliban Shuffle: Strange Days in Afghanistan and Pakistan, about a journalist during her time reporting in the war-ridden Middle East. Screenwriter Robert Carlock (Friends, Saturday Night Live) adapted the book for directing partners Glenn Ficarra and John Requa (I Love You Phillip Morris, Crazy Stupid Love). Co-starring in the film are actors Martin Freeman (The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, Hot Fuzz), Alfred Molina (Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Arc, Spider-Man 2), Christopher Abbott (Martha Marcy May Marlene, A Most Violent Year), and Billy Bob Thornton (Monster’s Ball, Armageddon). This one first seemed like a pretty strange comedy for Tina Fey to take on, but judging from the latest trailer, it does look like a pretty promising piece of screenwriting, so I guess we’ll just have to see this weekend. The trailer is available here on MADE. Enjoy!

Catch This Week’s Limited Releases Opening In Theaters This Weekend

she's that kind of funny

Indie films hardly get the public recognition they deserve outside of the circle of internationally known film festivals, or national premieres outside of New York City or Los Angeles (the recently released Mr. Holmes with Sir Ian McKellen and Joshua Oppenheimer’s The Look of Silence serve as perfect examples). But that’s not to say I wouldn’t recommend seeing any of these. This week several such projects will be seeing limited releases on big screens across the country. First on the list is Grandma from writer/director Paul Weitz (About A Boy, In Good Company), which follows a young teenager, Sage, as she goes to her grandmother, Elle Reid, for help when finding herself in a tight spot. The two embark on a day-long journey of self discovery and life reflection that brings both a sense of comfort and motivation to the audience. Actresses Lily Tomlin (Nine to Five, I Heart Huckabees), Julia Garner (Martha Marcy May Marlene, The Perks of Being a Wallflower), and Oscar-winner Marcia Gay Harden (Mystic River, Into The Wild) will be leading the cast on this one. Next on the list is The Last Picture Show director Peter Bogdanovich‘s She’s Funny That Way, starring Imogen Poots (28 Weeks Later, Filth), Owen Wilson (Wedding Crashers, Midnight in Paris), Jennifer Aniston (Horrible Bosses, We’re The Millers), and Kathryn Hahn (Step Brothers, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty). Given the plot of this one revolves around a love-triangle on the set of a Broadway production in New York, I would recommend this one as a good date-night movie. Last, but not least, is another romantic comedy (you would think it’s Valentine’s Day weekend!) called Some Kind of Beautiful from director Tom Vaughn (What Happens in Vegas, Extraordinary Measures). Pierce Brosnan (GoldenEye, The Thomas Crown Affair), Salma Hayek (From Dusk Til Dawn, Desperado), Jessica Alba (Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, Awake), and Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange, The Artist) lead the cast in this tale of a Cambridge poetry professor who comes to a type of midlife crises when he begins to reevaluate his life. All three selections are rated R due to some pretty heavy content, but I think they are all definitely worth seeing, so be sure to check your local theater listings for showtimes in your area, and as always…Enjoy!!

Writer/Director Kevin Smith Confirms Production On ‘Mallrats 2’ While ‘Clerks 3’ Films In May

Comedy veteran Kevin Smith seems to be caught up in the sequel-binge that’s happening in Hollywood right now. The director is not only preparing to begin filming Clerks 3 in Philadelphia this May, but now he has also confirmed he is working on a sequel to his 1995 comedy flop Mallrats. Clerks 3 will bring back Smith and Jason Mewes as Jay and Silent Bob, as well as Brian O’Halloran and Jeff Anderson as clerks Dante and Randal, plus Clerks 2 star Rosario Dawson, and Marilyn Ghigliotti (Clerks, Starship:Rising) as Veronica. While fans of Smith and his View-Askewniverse characters will be probably welcome the Clerks crew back to the big screen, many are surprised to hear that he is returning to Mallrats. The movie virtually flopped at the box office when it was released in ’95 (it was Smith’s first release since Clerks a year earlier), but Smith has said he will make the movie in a long-delayed honor of Mallrats producer Jim Jack, who always supported Smith over the years and died with an unrelenting desire to see Mallrats 2 on the big screen. Whatever the reason, Smith already has half of the script completed and if all goes well principle photography should begin as early as May 2016. In the meantime, check out this 1995 trailer for Mallrats, and if you haven’t seen it you should definitely make a point to.

Opening January 16th: ‘The Wedding Ringer’ And ‘Escobar: Paradise Lost’

This Friday will see a huge opening weekend for Hollywood. The Civil Rights drama Selma with David Oyelowo (The Last King of Scotland, Interstellar), as well as Taken 3 with Liam Neeson and Paul Thomas Anderson‘s new 1970s LA-Noir drama Inherent Vice with Joaquin Phoenix and Josh Brolin are all opening this Friday, January 9th. If that’s not enough, next Friday will see the release of Kevin Hart‘s new comedy The Wedding Ringer, in which he poses as best-man for complete strangers, and the long-awaited character-study film Escobar: Paradise Lost, starring Benicio Del Toro as the infamous Colombian kingpin, with Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games, Red Dawn), Brady Corbet (Melancholia, Martha Marcy May Marlene), and Claudia Traisac (Cuentame, El Principe) making up the supporting cast. The film comes from actor-turned-writer/director Andrea Di Stefano (Eat Pray Love, Life of Pi) and was first seen back in September 2014 at the Toronto Film Festival. Also opening this month is director David Koepp’s Mortdecai with Johnny Depp and Gwyneth Paltrow, so I’d say we’re getting 2015 off to a pretty big start. Enjoy!

‘Escobar: Paradise Lost’ Scheduled For Release This January 16th

We have a pretty great list of releases to choose from this 2014 Holiday season, but January 2015 is also looking to be a great month for releases, especially considering the insane amount of movies that have been scheduled to open this year. One project in particular that has been keeping Hollywood on the edge for several years now is the Pablo Escobar drama that has gone through several stages of production with different actors and directors before being picked up by RADIUS-TWC last February. The film is titled Escobar: Paradise Lost, and will star Oscar-winner Benicio Del Toro (The Usual Suspects, Snatch) in the role of the brutal cartel leader, with Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games, Red Dawn), Brady Corbet (Funny Games, Martha Marcy May Marlene), and Claudia Traisac (The 7th Day, Cuentame) in the supporting cast. Actor-turned-director Andrea Di Stefano (Nine, Life of Pi) directed his own screenplay that was co-written with Francesca Marciano (A Five Star Life, Honey). The movie was first seen in September as part of the Toronto International Film Festival and has also been shown at numerous events since then including the Zurich and Rome Film Festival(s), and the Hamptons and Philadelphia International Film Festival(s). Now the film will see a limited release this January 16th. You can see the trailer here on MADE, and be sure to check your theater guides to find one showing near your area.

Jordan brand plans to turn up the heat with the summer season right around the corner. As previewed earlier this year, the Air Jordan VI “Carmine” will be dropping this Saturday, May 24th. The new version has a blue-ice sole, which is a tad different from some of the versions in the past, although the kicks still look pretty nice. Monkier by Monkier

a3962248945_10

Monkier, is a hip-hop/jazz infused group from Atlanta, whom recently released their self titled album a few weeks back. Monkier, perfectly blends modern jazz with hip-hop; there are not many that do it as well as them. One can’t help but notice the similarities to The Roots with their use of a live band. The group features a sax, trombone, keys, drums, guitar, bass and Zac Evans’ sharp lyricism. Monkier’s sound is so silky smooth though, it is no wonder their buzz is continuously growing. This album has definitely exceeded any expectations we had going into it. Each musician knows their place as each shines bright throughout the album. Press play and let the soothing sounds of Monkier start your Monday off right.
