Celebrating the Films of Military Actor R. Lee Ermey (1944-2018) Who Passed Away This Week

Die-hard drill instructors, jailbreaking football coaches, and corrupt backwoods sheriffs. It was all just another day of work for former Marine Corp. drill instructor-turned-actor R. Lee Ermey, who died earlier this week. Ermey was an incredibly dynamic character-actor with an instantly recognizable face and rambunctious personality. The Kansas native joined the Marine Corp. in lieu of jail time after he’d been arrested twice by the age of 17. He began his career serving as a drill instructor in San Diego during the early 1960s before eventually being sent on a 14-month deployment in Vietnam. He was injured during his tour in 1969 and was sent to work as a staff sergeant in Okinawa before being medically discharged in 1972, ending his hopes of a long military career. After moving to the Philippines to attend college, Ermey married and began taking odd jobs in television commercials before landing his first film role as Sgt. Loyce in a movie called The Boys in Company C, which followed five young Marine Corp. recruits from their bootcamp training to their deployment in Vietnam. Continue reading

New Comedy With Tina Fey and Amy Poehler ‘Sisters’ Opening In Theaters This Friday

For those who are boycotting Hollywood’s ‘Re-make Era’ or simply have no interest in sitting in a jam-packed theater this Friday night with a bunch of kids and teenagers trying to see the new Star Wars feature, a new comedy with Golden Globe co-hosts Tina Fey (Mean Girls, 30 Rock) and Amy Poehler (Saturday Night Live, Parks and Recreation) titled Sisters can offer you the perfect alternative! Working with director Jason Moore (Everwood, Pitch Perfect) from a script by Emmy winner Paula Pell (Saturday Night Live, The Oscars), the comedy vets pose as sisters (appropriately) who decide to throw one last party in their old family home before their parents finally sell it. Also making appearances in the film are actors Maya Rudolph (Bridesmaids, Inherent Vice), Ike Barinholtz (Disaster Movie, Neighbors), James Brolin (Traffic, Catch Me If You Can), Diane Wiest (The Lost Boys, I Am Sam), John Cena (The Marine, Trainwreck), and John Leguizamo (The Lincoln Lawyer, Chef). I wouldn’t really expect this one to be fall-on-your-ass comedy, but Fey and Poehler are excellent comedic vets and work really well together, so if you’re not in the long line to see The Force Awakens, I would definitely give this one some consideration. Enjoy!

Matt Smith And Aaron Williamson Joining ‘Terminator: Genesis’

The next installment in the Terminator series will not only bring back Arnold Schwarzenegger as the futuristic cyborg killer, it will also feature a new all-star cast including Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney, Jason Clarke, and J.K. Simmons, and now Doctor Who regular Matt Smith and Marine veteran turned bodybuilder Aaron Williamson will also be joining the cast. Smith’s role is still unknown at this point, but Williamson, who has lent a hand on numerous Hollywood projects like The Butler and Django Unchained, will also take a role as a T-800 cyborg just like Schwarzenegger. The official plot of the movie is still being kept under-wraps, but according to a recent article from HitFix it may involve a double parallel where we see the original story-line from James Cameron’s 1984 blockbuster as well as the new story playing out in the same time and place, so a bit like Back to the Future: Part 2 where you have two Marty’s with two objectives. The film will also include Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) and Jai Courtney (A Good Day To Die Hard) in the roles of Sarah Connor and Kyle Reese, the two protagonists of the original movie, and will be penned by Laeta Kalogridis (Alexander, Shutter Island) and Patrick Lussier (Dracula 2000, Drive Angry). Director Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones, The Sopranos) is already in the process of shooting the film, and Paramount has scheduled the release for July 2015.
