‘Independence Day 2: Resurgence’ Now Playing In Theaters Nationwide

The highly anticipated sequel to director Roland Emmerich‘s 1996 blockbuster Independence Day 2: Resurgence is now playing in theaters nationwide. Despite a failed effort to bring back Will Smith, who played one of the lead roles in the original film, the new sequel has gained much anticipation from fans of the original, who no doubt are excited to see veteran actors Jeff Goldblum (Jurassic Park, The Grand Budapest Hotel) and Bill Pullman (Spaceballs, While You Were Sleeping) reunite onscreen to fight aliens! Also returning from the original film are actors Vivica A. Fox (Juwanna Man, Kill Bill: Vol 1), Brent Spiner (The Aviator, Star Trek: The Next Generation), and Judd Hirsch (Ordinary People, A Beautiful Mind), who are joined by new lead Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games, Paranoia), and actors Jessie T. Usher (When The Game Stands Tall, Survivor’s Remorse), Joey King (Crazy Stupid Love, The Conjuring), Maika Monroe (Labor Day, It Follows), Sela Ward (The Day After Tomorrow, Gone Girl), and William Fichtner (Armageddon, Black Hawk Down). Despite popularity among fans, the film has not received good reviews from critics, who have called it “boring” and “loaded down with ’90s cheesiness.” Not sure how audiences will react or if they will agree with the critics, but I guess we’ll find out this weekend. Enjoy!

First Trailer For ‘Independence Day: Resurgence’ Now Available

With Star Wars: The Force Awakens finally opening in theaters this week, movie-goers are starting to look to the New Year to get their blockbuster fix. Over the last week we have seen new, full-length trailers for Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice and X-Men: Apocalypse, which will bring the comic-movie circuit back to life after the Star Wars bubble finally bursts. This week, however, we have a new trailer for another sequel we have been keeping our eyes on, in the form of Independence Day: Resurgence. Original ID director Roland Emmerich (The Day After Tomorrow, 2012) is back with returning veteran actors Jeff Goldblum (Jurassic Park, The Grand Budapest Hotel), Bill Pullman (Spaceballs, Lake Placid), Vivica A. Fox (Juwanna Mann, Kill Bill Vol. 1), and Oscar-winner Judd Hirsch (Ordinary People, A Beautiful Mind), leading a new generation of actors including Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games, Paranoia), Joey King (Crazy Stupid Love, The Conjuring), Maika Monroe (Labor Day, It Follows), and William Fichtner (Heat, Black Hawk Down). Picking up 20 years after the events of the original film, we find scientist David Levinson (Goldblum) and former President James Whitmore (Pullman) facing a new insurgence of alien visitors that will test the world’s new defense systems that were developed using the technology of the original invaders. Unfortunately for fans of the original, Will Smith will not be reprising his role, and instead the plot will focus on a new-generation fighter pilot (played by Hemsworth) named Morrison, but other than that the rest of the story looks (on the surface) pretty legitimate. As always, we’ll have to wait for the final product to know for sure. Stay tuned for further updates.

Final Installment In ‘Taken’ Series Opening This January 9th

We were all pretty surprised to see that Liam Neeson would be appearing in a sequel to his 2008 action thriller Taken, but seeing as they made a 2nd I guess they may as well go ahead and make a 3rd. Yes, a 3rd. Liam Neeson will grace the screen one more time this January as ex-CIA agent Bryan Mills, who has a wife and daughter that, for some reason, always seem to be the target of a kidnapping plot. This time out Mills finds himself framed for the murder of his ex-wife, and must ensue on a new mission to clear his name by finding the true killer before the authorities track him down. Oscar-winner Forest Whitaker (Phone Booth, Lee Daniel’s The Butler) will be joining the supporting cast along with Maggie Grace (Taken, The Fog) and Famke Janssen (GoldenEye, X-Men) returning as daughter Kim and ex-wife Lenore. Screenwriting/directing duo Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen (Leon: The Professional, The Fifth Element), who wrote both Taken and Taken 2, penned the new script for director Olivier Megaton (Transporter 3, Taken 2). Check out the new trailer here on MADE; the new movie comes out January 9th. Also opening on January 9th is director Paul Thomas Anderson‘s upcoming LA-noir drama Inherent Vice with Joaquin Phoenix and Josh Brolin, as well as Ava DuVernay’s Civil Rights drama Selma with David Oyelowo and Tim Roth, so be sure to mark your calendar for January 9!

Seth MacFarlane is currently in Boston filming his upcoming comedy sequel Ted 2, but news of some new cast members has just recently hit the Hollywood web-scene. Following their collaboration on A Million Ways To Die In The West last year, MacFarlane has confirmed that actor Liam Neeson will be playing a small part in the movie, joining actors Mark Wahlberg, Amanda Seyfried, and Morgan Freeman. Entertainment Weekly also reported recently that John Slattery of AMC’s Mad Men will also be making an appearance in the film. Although there is no official word on the plot, Morgan Freeman has stated that he will appear as Ted’s civil rights lawyer who helps him out with some legal troubles, but thus far that’s really all we’ve heard. The movie is scheduled to hit theaters next June, so stay tuned for more news!

Forest Whitaker May Join Olivier Megaton’s Taken 3

Recent reports from Deadline have indicated that Oscar-winning actor Forest Whitaker may join Liam Neeson for the third installment of the Taken series from director Olivier Megaton, who took over the directing chair for Pierre Morel. The first film was released in 2008 and was followed by the second installment four years later, which did pretty well at the box office but was not as celebrated as the first film by the fans. Forest Whitaker won both an Oscar and a Golden Globe in 2007 for his performance as Idi Amin in The Last King of Scotland, and recently played the leading role in Lee Daniel’s The Butler. He also played a role in director Scott Cooper’s Out of the Furnace with Christian Bale and Casey Affleck, which was released back in early December. Liam Neeson has also been keeping busy outside of the Taken franchise. The actor loaned his voice to the upcoming The Lego Movie, which is out at the end of this week, as well as the Western comedy A Million Ways To Die In The West, currently in post-production. Whether or not Whitaker will officially join the project is still up in the air, so we’ll keep our ears open for more news.

Andrew Garfield and Liam Neeson Join Scorsese’s Next Project Silence

Director Martin Scorsese has been very busy the last year trying to get his new project The Wolf of Wall Street into the theaters and onto his trophy shelf. The film experienced several problems during production, including cuts that had to be made for both time and content, but it was all worth the wait. Wall Street has already been nominated for five Oscars and also won Leonardo DiCaprio a Golden Globe for Best Actor. Now the director is moving on to his next project Silence, a film based on the novel of the same name by Shusaku Endo. The story follows a pair of Jesuit priests in the 17th century persecution-era of Christianity, who travel to Japan to spread their faith and to search for their friend and mentor. According to Deadline Hollywood, actors Andrew Garfield (The Amazing Spider Man) and Liam Neeson (Taken, Nell) will be leading the cast, along with Adam Driver and Ken Watanabe. The film is scheduled for release in 2015, and is supposed to begin shooting in Taiwan later this year.
