‘Snowden’ and ‘Blair Witch’ Now Playing In Theaters

Two big blockbuster releases are opening on big-screens nationwide today. The first is the new biographical drama by director Oliver Stone (Platoon, Any Given Sunday) called Snowden, obviously about NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden. Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Inception, The Dark Knight Rises) stars in the role as Snowden, with Shailene Woodley (Divergent, The Descendants), Melissa Leo (The Fighter, Prisoners), Zachary Quinto (Margin Call, Star Trek Beyond), and Tom Wilkinson (The Patriot, Michael Clayton) appearing in the supporting cast. The film was adapted by Stone from two books: The Snowden Files: The Inside Story of the World’s Most Wanted Man by Luke Harding and Time of the Octopus by Anatoly Kucherena. Stone has a habit of putting his own theory in his historical films, but he is definitely a worthy director, and Levitt a solid actor, so this one will probably be worth your time, especially if the rain persists! New Trailer For Upcoming Oliver Stone Drama ‘Snowden’ Now Available

After hearing about this project months ago and getting no more than an image of Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Inception, The Dark Knight Rises) in costume as a military recruit, we finally have an official trailer for the upcoming drama Snowden from writer/director Oliver Stone (Platoon, Any Given Sunday). The film is based on two books, one called The Time of the Octopus by Anatoly Kucherena and the other simply titled The Snowden Files by author Luke Harding (who also wrote the book WikiLeaks: Inside Julian Assange’s War on Secrecy that inspired the similarly themed 2013 flick The Fifth Estate). Snowden tells the story of infamous whistleblower Edward Snowden, from his time as an armed forces recruit all the way to his efforts to bring the National Security Administration’s practice of tracking individual cell phones for the sake of security into question. Screenwriter Kieran Fitzgerald (The Ballad of Esequiel Hernández, The Homesman) co-adapted the script with Stone (although I can’t speak as to how accurate the material is). Continue reading

New Biographical Drama ‘The Walk’ Opening In Theaters Friday

A new drama from Oscar-winning director Robert Zemeckis (Forrest Gump, Flight) titled The Walk is opening in theaters Friday, October 9th. The film is based on the 2008 documentary Man on Wire by director James Marsh, an adaptation of Philippe Petit‘s novel, which chronicles Petit’s illegal tightrope walk across the twin towers of the World Trade Center in 1974. Petit’s successful endeavor came to be referred to as “the artistic crime of the century”, and years later Man on Wire would receive an Academy Award for Best Documentary in 2009. The new film by Zemeckis is in the form of an actual drama, and stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Inception, The Dark Knight Rises) as Petit, with Charlotte Le Bon (Mood Indigo, The Hundred-Foot Journey), James Badge Dale (The Departed, Flight), and Oscar-winner Ben Kingsley (Ghandi, Shutter Island) in the supporting cast. Zemeckis and screenwriter Christopher Browne (Pupil, Operation Barn Owl) adapted the script from Petit’s novel To Reach The Clouds. From the looks of the trailer it looks pretty suspenseful, but also loaded with more CGI than I would have expected. But Gordon-Levitt does seem to pull off a decent French accent and we are talking about a Zemeckis picture here, it will likely turn out better than we’re all expecting! Additional information on this new film can be found at the link below. Enjoy!

New Trailer For Edward Snowden Biopic Now Available

Here we have a new teaser trailer for the upcoming Oliver Stone (The Doors, Born on the Fourth of July) biopic on NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden. The film is appropriately (and simply) titled Snowden and stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Inception, The Dark Knight Rises) in the title role. While production has been underway for on the project for sometime, one would expect to see at least a 10-second clip of actual footage, but with this teaser all you really get are some words outlining highlights of Snowden’s life and a clever phrase to top-off the 86-second clip (even though “One Nation, Under Surveillance” is pretty clever considering the subject matter). Also starring in the film are actors Shailene Woodley (The Fault in Our Stars, Divergent), Melissa Leo (The Fighter, Prisoners), Zachary Quinto (24, Star Trek: Into Darkness), Tom Wilkinson (The Patriot, Rush Hour), Rhys Ifans (Anonymous, The Amazing Spider Man), and Nicholas Cage (Con-Air, National Treasure). The movie is scheduled to open in theaters on Christmas Day, right alongside Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight. We’ll keep an eye out for additional trailers as they come out. Stay tuned!

Oliver Stone’s New Biopic ‘Snowden’ With Joseph Gordon-Levitt Now Filming

Actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Edward Snowden in upcoming Oliver Stone biopic Snowden (2015).

Director Oliver Stone has presented some pretty controversial biographical films in his career, JFK, Nixon, and W. just to name a few. His latest project, again simply titled Snowden, about NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden is now filming with actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Inception, The Dark Knight Rises) in the lead role. More specifically, the plot follows Snowden from his time in the US Army in 2004 to his groundbreaking interview in Hong Kong with documentarian Laura Poitras (whose documentary film, Citizenfour, about that very interview, just won an Oscar for Best Documentary), during which he exposed top-secret NSA documents before fleeing to Russia for asylum. The script comes from two primary sources: author Luke Harding’s The Snowden Files: The Inside Story of the World’s Most Wanted Man and Anatoly Kucherena’s Time of the Octopus (Kucherena is Snowden’s Russian attorney), which were adapted for the film by Stone and screenwriter Kieran Fitzgerald. Included in the supporting cast are actors Shailene Woodley (Divergent, The Fault in our Stars), Scott Eastwood (Texas Chainsaw 3D, Fury), Nicholas Cage (Face-Off, Matchstick Men), Timothy Olyphant (Live Free or Die Hard, Justified), Zachary Quinto (American Horror Story, Star Trek Into Darkness), and Tom Wilkinson (Michael Clayton, The Exorcism of Emily Rose). The film is scheduled for release Christmas Day 2015. Stay tuned for more news.

Upcoming Edward Snowden Biopic From Director Oliver Stone In The Works

snowden

A new film on the life of Edward Snowden, the infamous whistleblower who leaked highly-classified documents from the National Security Agency to the press, is in the works from historical (yet controversial) director Oliver Stone (Platoon, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps). Stone and screenwriter Kieren Fitzgerald (The Ballad of Esequiel Hernandez, The Homesman) are expected to adapt the script from author Luke Harding‘s The Snowden Files: The Inside Story of the World’s Most Wanted Man, and Anatoly Kucherena‘s (Snowden’s Russian lawyer) upcoming memoir Time of the Octopus. Actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Inception, The Dark Knight Rises) is expected to take the lead role in the film, and recent news has actress Shailene Woodley (White Bird in a Blizzard, The Fault in our Stars) joining the cast in the role of Snowden’s girlfriend. The most recent film to be released on the Snowden controversy was the documentary film from Laura Poitras and Glen Greenwald, Citizenfour, which featured footage and material from Poitras’ interview with Snowden in Hong Kong. Stone’s new film is expected in theaters sometime in 2016, so we’ll keep an eye out for more news.

‘Sin City: A Dame To Kill For’ Trailer Reveals Further Plot Details

The new trailer for Sin City: A Dame To Kill For from directors Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez is now on the big screen, and fans of Miller and his graphic novel are definitely in for a treat. walk

Director Robert Zemeckis and Joseph Gordon-Levitt have teamed up for a film adaptation of Philippe Petit’s memoir To Reach The Clouds, chronicling the story of his 1974 tightrope walk between the World Trade Center towers in New York City. The film will focus on Petit’s conception of the idea and it’s preparation leading up to the historic feet. Levitt will take the lead role in the film, which will also star James Badge Dale (The Departed, Flight) and Oscar winner Sir Ben Kingsley (Schindler’s List, Shutter Island). The film will be produced by TriStar Pictures (yes, TriStar is back in business!) and is scheduled for release in October, 2015.

’50/50′ Stars Seth Rogen And Joseph Gordon-Levitt Teaming With Anthony Mackie For Christmas Comedy

mackie

Director Jonathan Levine, who directed Seth Rogen and Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the 2011 dramedy 50/50, is currently working on a new Christmas comedy at Sony Pictures with both actors and a newcomer to comedy Anthony Mackie. Mackie, who has appeared in such films as Gangster Squad, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and The Adjustment Bureau, would be taking on the third lead role in a story that follows three childhood friends reuniting for a night of fun in New York City on Christmas Eve. Seth Rogen, who is producing this one with his long-running film partner Evan Goldberg, has stated that production will begin this summer with pre-production already underway, and with Levine directing the project, it should make for a successful endeavor. Sin City 2 To Hit Theaters This August, Sin City 3 Already In The Works

Director Robert Rodriquez is nearly finished adding all the special effects for the upcoming, long awaited sequel to Sin City, A Dame To Kill For, and the film should be able to honor its scheduled August 22nd release date. The original film from Rodriquez and graphic novelist Frank Miller came out in 2005 and featured an all-star cast that includes Bruce Willis, Benicio Del Toro, Jessica Alba, Rosario Dawson, Josh Hartnett, Clive Owen, Elijah Wood, and Mickey Rourke. The film was highly recognized at the Cannes Film Festival for its groundbreaking visual effects and cinematography, and with the new film taking so long in post-production, we must be in for even more mind-blowing visuals. The sequel will reunite most of the original cast, and will also add some new faces to the mix, including Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Eva Green, Josh Brolin, Jeremy Piven, and Ray Liotta. Miller and Rodriquez are also already talking about how to approach part 3, but until A Dame To Kill For is released and box office numbers come in, the fate of a third installment has yet to be determined.
