According to Deadline, actor Alden Ehrenreich (Blue Jasmine, Hail Caesar!) has officially signed on to star as young Captain Han Solo in the upcoming Star Wars spin-off from Walt Disney Pictures. Ehrenreich beat out a number of A-list names for the role, including Miles Teller, Dave Franco, Jack Reynor, Scott Eastwood, and Emory Cohen. As with all upcoming releases from Disney/Lucasfilm, no actual details have been released on the plot, and no news about supporting cast members is yet available. The script will be written by Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan and his son Jon Kasdan (In the Land of Women, The First Time). Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (21 Jump Street, The Lego Movie) are expected to direct the feature. We’ll be bringing you further news as it emerges. If you can’t wait for a new space movie to see, check out the third installment in the new Star Trek series, Beyond, starring Chris Pine (Unstoppable, Into the Woods) and Zachary Quinto (Tallulah, Snowden). Enjoy the weekend!
After hearing about a revamped Vacation update after the National Lampoon classic with Chevy Chase (National Lampoon’s Vacation, CaddyShack) and Beverly D’Angelo (American History X, Entourage), trailers are finally starting to turn up as we approach the July 29th release-date. The film comes from writing/directing team John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein (Horrible Bosses, The Incredible Burt Wonderstone), and follows Rusty Griswold (portrayed in the original by Anthony Michael Hall) and his wife Debbie on a new family vacation enroute to Walley World. Starring in the film are actors Ed Helms (The Hangover, We’re The Millers), Christina Applegate (Anchorman, Hall Pass), Regina Hall (Law Abiding Citizen, Think Like A Man), Nick Kroll (I Love You Man, Date Night), Charlie Day (It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, The Lego Movie), and Leslie Mann (Funny People, This Is 40) and Chris Hemsworth (Thor, The Avengers) as Audrey Griswold and her husband Stone Crandall. The movie will be out in theaters this July 29th; check out the new trailer here on MADE!
The follow-up to 2012’s Avengers (excluding solo projects we’ve seen released in-between like Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Iron Man 3) is coming to theaters this May 1st. Reuniting for the film are actors Robert Downey Jr. (The Soloist, The Judge), Scarlett Johansson (We Bought A Zoo, Lucy), Chris Hemsworth (Thor: The Dark World, Rush), Chris Evans (Fantastic Four, Snowpiercer), Mark Ruffalo (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Shutter Island), and Jeremy Renner (The Bourne Legacy, American Hustle) as the Avengers, who this time out must join forces against the evil Ultron, who emerges with the intent of carrying out his destructive plans over planet Earth. Also back to write the script and direct the film is Oscar-nominee Joss Whedon (Toy Story, The Cabin in the Woods), as well as supporting cast members Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction, Snakes on a Plane), Cobie Smulders (Delivery Man, The Lego Movie), Tom Hiddleston (War Horse, Thor: The Dark World), and Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kick-Ass 2, Godzilla). You can see the trailer here on MADE; the original Avengers movie grossed more than $200 million in the opening weekend, so we’ll be sure to watch if this sequel can break that record.
Besides being a serious photographer, Jeff Friesen also works on a LEGO series called the Brick Fantastic. In this series, he depicts provinces in Canada and also all 50 states, which lead to his eventual release of the Bricksy series. While it started out only as a fun hobby of his, major news outlets such as Wired, HuffingtonPost and ABCNews, had all picked up his work to write about it. We personally felt that the Bricksy series was a cool concept as it combines two dope platforms together.
In a world where digital technology is taking over more than just the movie industry, there are a few old fashioned filmmakers out there who still like to keep things old school! Director Colin Trevorrow recently tweeted that he would begin filming the Jurassic Park reboot/sequel this coming April with cinematographer John Schwartzman using both 35mm and IMAX-size 65mm film. Schwartzman was nominated for an Oscar in 2004 for his work on Seabiscuit, and has also done cinematography for several other big name projects in Hollywood, including Pearl Harbor (2001), Armageddon (1998), The Amazing Spider-Man (2012), and most recently, Saving Mr. Banks (2013). Jurassic World, which is supposedly set to take place on an island with a completed amusement park sometime after the original disaster (details are still being kept locked up), will star Bryce Dallas Howard (The Village, The Help) and Chris Pratt (The Lego Movie, Parks and Recreation) in two of the leading roles, as well as Jake Johnson and Nick Robinson, and is scheduled for theater release on June 12, 2015.
Recent reports from Deadline have indicated that Oscar-winning actor Forest Whitaker may join Liam Neeson for the third installment of the Taken series from director Olivier Megaton, who took over the directing chair for Pierre Morel. The first film was released in 2008 and was followed by the second installment four years later, which did pretty well at the box office but was not as celebrated as the first film by the fans. Forest Whitaker won both an Oscar and a Golden Globe in 2007 for his performance as Idi Amin in The Last King of Scotland, and recently played the leading role in Lee Daniel’s The Butler. He also played a role in director Scott Cooper’s Out of the Furnace with Christian Bale and Casey Affleck, which was released back in early December. Liam Neeson has also been keeping busy outside of the Taken franchise. The actor loaned his voice to the upcoming The Lego Movie, which is out at the end of this week, as well as the Western comedy A Million Ways To Die In The West, currently in post-production. Whether or not Whitaker will officially join the project is still up in the air, so we’ll keep our ears open for more news.
The Lego Movie is set to come out this weekend, and corporate Hollywood is already expecting a big box office hit. The film features an all star cast including Will Arnett, Elizabeth Banks, Will Ferrell, Morgan Freeman, Charlie Day, Liam Neeson, Chris Pratt, and Jonah Hill to name a few, as well as a huge assortment of everybody’s favorite Lego characters. The movie is directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, and according to Variety, already has a sequel in the works being written by Jared Stern and Michelle Morgan. Check out the trailer here on MADE, then see the movie this weekend!!
Since his breakout role in Parks & Recreation, Chris Pratt has become a growing star, taking on more roles in big screen movies instead of just television. Pratt has already made appearances in big screen flicks like Moneyball and Zero Dark Thirty, and Parks is already in it’s 6th season on NBC, and with his new comedy with Vince Vaughn, Delivery Man, coming to theaters this week, Pratt’s career is definitely on the up-swing. The actor will be appearing in the upcoming Lego movie, appropriately titled The Lego Movie, as well as Guardians of the Galaxy, which are both scheduled to be released next year. The actor is now also in talks to join the cast of the upcoming fourth installment of the Jurassic Park series, Jurassic World, that will be directed by Colin Trevorrow and which will also star Bryce Dallas Howard. While it is still unofficial that Pratt will star in the movie, he would be up for the male lead opposite Howard, but nothing is set in stone yet. The movie is scheduled to be released in 2015, but with the cast not completely filled in yet, the production is still in the pretty early stages. Hopefully the filmmakers take the time to get a good script written, otherwise this could turn out to be another terrible sequel that shouldn’t have been made in the first place.
Creative, Fun, and Brilliant. Belkin released this video a few months back for the new iPhone 5. They teamed up with Apple and LEGO to create a whole new way of using a phone case. Now you can have endless creations and opportunities to customize your new iPhone! Belkin plans on releasing a limited amount of these, and they are priced at $40 a pop (ouch). As of now, they do not make these for any other model of phone, so unless you have an iPhone 5, you are out of luck. Possibly if they MADE these for Android phones I would look into it, but definitely not for $40.
