Stephen King Adaptation ‘The Dark Tower’ Opening In Theaters This August

Author Stephen King is making a big cinematic comeback in 2017. A new adaptation of his 1986 horror-classic It is opening in theaters this September, and is expected to be a two-part installation with the second film following soon after. Before It hits theaters, however, another Stephen King adaptation will see a nationwide release in the form of The Dark Tower. Based on the final novel in his eight-part series, The Dark Tower, the film follows a man named Roland Deschain, the Last Gunslinger, who faces off with the Man in Black, Walter O’Dim, in an effort to stop him from destroying the Dark Tower, a mystical building that serves as the center of all universes. Watch For Director Adam Smith’s ‘Trespass Against Us’ Coming In 2017

Director Adam Smith’s family-crime drama Trespass Against Us received an Official Selection nod at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), as well as top nods at the British Independent Film Awards and the Zurich Film Festival. Following a number of runs at various film festivals here in the United States, the film received a brief limited release back in January, but as of now we have yet to see it picked up for major distribution in theaters nationwide, but here’s hoping that changes! Written by documentary director Alastair Siddons (Turn it Loose, Inside Out), Trespass Against Us follows a man who comes into conflict with his outlaw father and family after he decides he must find a way out of his own criminal world in order to provide a better future for his own family. Michael Fassbender (Macbeth, The Light Between Oceans) and Brendan Gleeson (Cold Mountain, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) lead the cast as Chad and Colby Cutler, the father and son who come to arms with each other over the former’s desire to break free of his criminal past. New Adaptation of ‘The Jungle Book’ Opening In Theaters This Friday

The new live-action adaptation of The Jungle Book is opening in theaters nationwide this Friday, April 15th. The movie had already brought in $30 million in foreign box office sales last weekend, which has already prompted Disney to green-light a sequel with director John Favreau (Iron Man 2, Chef). Screenwriter Justin Marks (Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, Rewind) adapted the script from author Rudyard Kipling’s novel about the man-cub Mowgli, who, after a threat by the tiger Shere Kahn, must embark on an epic journey across the jungle, led by the panther Bagheera and the bear Baloo, on a journey of self-discovery. The film features an all star cast, including Bill Murray (Ghostbusters, Stripes) as Baloo, Ben Kingsley (Shutter Island, Self/Less) as Bagheera, and Idris Elba (Beasts of No Nation, Thor: The Dark World) as Shere Kahn, along with Scarlett Johansonn (The Avengers, Captain America: Civil War), Lupita Lyong’o (12 Years A Slave, Star Wars: The Force Awakens), Giancarlo Esposito (The Usual Suspects, Smoke), Christopher Walken (Pulp Fiction, Catch Me If You Can), and up-and-coming youngster Neel Sethi as Mowgli. Those of us who grew up watching the original animated feature from Disney will be really excited to see this one on big screens, so be sure to see it while it’s still in theaters. Enjoy!

First Teaser Trailer For Upcoming ‘Pete’s Dragon’ Remake Now Available

A few months back we heard the first whisperings of an upcoming remake of the 1977 Walt Disney classic Pete’s Dragon, and now we have the first teaser trailer for the new movie, which is due out in August. Writer/director David Lowery (Pioneer, Ain’t Them Bodies Saints) adapted the original S.S. Field story with co-screenwriter Toby Halbrooks (Robots Are Blue, Dig) about a young orphan named Pete who goes on extraordinary adventures with his friend, a giant dragon named Elliott. Leading the cast are actors Bryce Dallas Howard (The Help, Jurassic World), Robert Redford (All The President’s Men, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid), Karl Urban (The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, The Bourne Supremacy), Wes Bentley (The Hunger Games, Interstellar), Craig Hall (King Kong, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug), and Oakes Fegley (This Is Where I Leave You, Prism) as young orphan Pete. This will be the third Disney remake that’s due out this year, at least that we’ve been watching. The first is the new adaptation of The Jungle Book from director Jon Favreau (Iron Man, Chef) coming out this April, and the second is the The Legend of Tarzan from director David Yates (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince), starring Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street, Focus) and Christoph Waltz (Django Unchained, Inglorious Basterds), which is due out in July. The trailer for the new Pete’s Dragon is available here on MADE. Look for more updates on these three movies coming out soon.

Catch This Week’s Limited Release Features In Your Local Listings

With Star Wars: The Force Awakens opening in theaters nationwide tomorrow, you can expect movie theaters to be jam-packed this weekend with old and new generation fans alike. There are, however, a number of smaller, independent projects coming out this weekend that we like to take the time to shine the spotlight on. The first is a new war drama titled Son of Saul (originally Saul fia) from writer/director Laszlo Nemes (The Counterpart, The Gentlemen Takes His Leave), which received excellent recognition at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Taking place in the Nazi concentration camp, Auschwitz, in 1944, the film follows a prisoner who attempts to find redemption by saving a boy he adopts as his son from the furnaces of the camp that he has been forced to subject many of his own people to. Starring in the film are actors Geza Rohrig, Levente Molnar (Morgen, Our Big Time), Urs Rechn (Eight Miles High, The King’s Surrender), and Todd Charmont (The Last of the Mohicans, Strangers). Next up are a couple of action-thrillers, the first in the form of the French film The Lady in the Car with the Glasses and Gun from director Joann Sfar (Gainsbourg: A Heroic Life, The Rabbi’s Cat), and the second a new action flick with Bruce Willis (Die Hard, Lucky Number Sleven) titled Extraction. Lady in the Car is an adaptation of the latest novel by Sébastien Japrisot about a secretary who steals her bosses car to go joyriding, only to discover she is now the prime suspect in a murder case after a body turns up in the trunk of the car. Extraction is a low budget action film from director Steven C. Miller (The Aggression Scale, Under The Bed), co-starring Kellan Lutz (Twilight, The Legend of Hercules) and Gina Carano (Fast & Furious 6, Deadpool), that follows the son of a captured CIA operative who decides to initiate his own rescue mission after the government refuses to conduct a rescue operation. The last release is a new documentary Noma My Perfect Storm featuring award-winning chef Rene Redzepi, who discusses her success with her Copenhagen-based restaurant (Noma) and her personal philosophy on the culinary arts that has contributed to her success. All of these sound like they’ll be pretty promising, so if you’re looking for a nice Star Wars alternative this weekend, check your local theater listings for showtimes for these features. Enjoy!

New Drama ‘Legend’ With Tom Hardy In Duel Roles Receiving Nationwide Expansion Today

The new hard-hitting drama Legend, which finds Tom Hardy playing duel roles as identical twin brothers Reggie and Ronnie Kray, is opening in theaters nationwide this week. The film first saw a limited release back on November 20th, and now audiences everywhere will get to see the fact-based drama Oscar-winning writer/director Brian Helgeland (Mystic River, LA Confidential). Set in 1960s England, the film follows the story of the Kray’s as they run their empire of organized crime among the streets of East London and whose strength and loyalty to each other will be put to the ultimate test. Joining Hardy in the cast are actors Emily Browning (Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events, Pompeii), Taron Egerton (Testament of Youth, Kingsman: The Secret Service), Sam Spruell (K-19: The Widowmaker, The Hurt Locker), and Chaz Palminteri (A Bronx Tale, The Usual Suspects). From the looks of the trailer, audiences can expect a pretty hard-hitting drama, but there is also word going around that the trailer is very misleading, which tends to happen a lot in Hollywood. Let us know what you think after you’ve seen it! The trailer is here one more time if you need any further convincing. Enjoy!

First Trailer For ‘Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend’ Now Available

Netflix has slowly been upping its game in the home entertainment circuit ever since House of Cards became nearly as popular as HBO’s Game of Thrones. Now they are stepping up once again, this time with a sequel to 2000’s four-time Oscar winning epic Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, expected to be available on Netflix this February. The new film is subtitled The Green Legend and, like the original, is based on an original novel by author Du Lu Wang. Returning from the original film is actress Michelle Yeoh (Tomorrow Never Dies, Memoirs of a Geisha), who leads a whole new cast that features Donnie Yen (Blade 2, Hero), Harry Shum Jr. (Glee, White Frog), Jason Scott Lee (The Jungle Book, Balls of Fury), Eugenia Yuan (The Drummer, Shanghai Hotel), and Juju Chan (Unconditional Love, Fist of the Dragon) in a screenplay by John Fusco (Young Guns, Hidalgo). The first trailer, which is featured above, was just released this week. I’m not really sure what they had in mind with the techno version of CCR’s Bad Moon Rising playing in the back drop, but the visual effects and fight-scene choreography look pretty awesome. We’ll keep you posted on upcoming details.

New Trailer Available For ‘2oolander’ In Theaters February 2016

Reactions by fans to the news that there would be a second Zoolander was pretty mixed, although it didn’t necessarily come with any real surprise considering Hollywood insists on banking on 20-year-old franchises these days. Nevertheless the rumors were true and production has been underway for sometime now, with the upcoming release for Zoolander 2 scheduled for February 12, 2016. Ben Stiller (Meet the Parents, Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story) and Owen Wilson (Wedding Crashers, Midnight in Paris) are reprising their roles as fashion models Derek and Hansel, whose careers are now threatened by a new company attempting to put them out of business. Ben Stiller is once again behind the director’s chair, working from a script by himself and original Zoolander screenwriter John Hamburg (Along Came Polly, I Love You Man), along with Justin Theroux (Tropic Thunder, Iron Man 2) and Nicholas Stoller (Yes Man, Get Him To The Greek). Actors Christine Taylor (The Wedding Singer, License To Wed), Will Farrell (Old School, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy), and Billy Zane (Back to the Future, Titanic) are also returning to reprise their roles from the original film, along with newcomers Benedict Cumberbatch (12 Years A Slave, The Imitation Game), Olivia Munn (Magic Mike, The Newsroom), Kristen Wiig (The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, The League), and Penelope Cruz (Blow, The Counselor). Personal politics aside, the trailer does look pretty promising, though perhaps a bit overdone, and seeing Benedict Cumberbatch as a cross-dresser is definitely a step outside of his usual realm of acting, so maybe it will make for a decent Valentine’s date. Only time will tell. The trailer is now available here on MADE. Enjoy the weekend!

Also starring in the film are actors Emily Browning (Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events, Pompeii), Taron Egerton (Testament of Youth, Kingsman: The Secret Service), and Sam Spruell (K-19: The Widowmaker, The Hurt Locker), and Chaz Palminteri (A Bronx Tale, The Usual Suspects), in what should be a riveting and action-packed drama from the looks of the trailer. Keep your eyes out for a nationwide expansion sometime in the next few months. The trailer is available here on MADE.
