Today Marks 50th Anniversary of Beatle’s ‘Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’

sgt peppers lonely hearts club band

Today (May 26th) marks the 50th anniversary celebration of The Beatle’s revolutionary album Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. The LP was the first released by the band following their retirement from touring after their final performance at Candlestick Park in 1966. Although The Beatles had already begun a steady transition from being a more traditional pop-rock group with albums like Rubber Soul and Revolver, Sgt. Pepper’s has been hailed as their ultimate creative masterpiece, followed closely perhaps by 1969’s Abbey Road. Released at the beginning of the Summer of Love, it set a new precedent for what a rock and roll record could be. The concept behind the album began following the exhaustion the group experienced after the whirlwind of Beatlemania. Paul McCartney came to Lennon, Starr, and Harrison with an idea that they would record an all new album under an alternative persona, which would free them from the weight of being the Beatles and usher in a fresh wave of musical creativity. Sgt. Pepper’s not only ushered in a new era for the Beatles; it also marked the beginning of the psychedelic rock movement that would see new groups like The Doors, Pink Floyd, and Jefferson Airplane begin to climb the pop music charts. Now, 50 years later, Sgt. Pepper’s is known not only for its conception and importance to 60s rock (and music in general), but also for the history of its production. Continue reading

New Indie Drama ‘American Honey’ Now Playing In Select Theaters

A new independent drama from Oscar-winning writer/director Andrea Arnold (Red Road, Fish Tank) is opening in select theaters across the country this weekend. The film, called American Honey, follows a teenage girl as she joins a group of misfits, or “traveling salesmen” and gets swept up in a life of alcohol, drugs, crime, young love, and all the drama that comes with it while hitchhiking their way across the Midwestern United States. Starring in the lead role is newcomer Sasha Lane, who is supported onscreen by Shia LaBeouf (Lawless, Fury), Riley Keough (The Good Doctor, Mad Max: Fury Road), McCaul Lombardi (Age of the Moon, Mindless), Arielle Holmes (Heaven Knows What, 2307: Winter’s Dream), and Isaiah Stone (Winter’s Bone). American Honey stole the show at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, winning the Jury Prize and securing a Palme d’Or nomination for director Andrea Arnold, whose acclaimed independent films have earned her a big name among the industry. The trailer for American Honey is available here on MADE. If you get a chance, I would definitely put it on your movie list for this weekend. Enjoy!

New Sci-Fi Thriller ’10 Cloverfield Lane’ Opening In Theaters This Friday

A new sci-fi thriller called 10 Cloverfield Lane is opening in theaters this Friday, March 11th, 2016. Although you might recognize the title, aside from the name, there is apparently no other connection to the original 2008 thriller Cloverfield, which involved a monster of sorts attacking the residents of New York City. This new movie comes from director Dan Trachtenberg from a script by screenwriters Josh Campbell (The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, Van Helsing), Matthew Stuecken (The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra), and Damien Chazelle (Grand Piano, Whiplash) about a woman who is involved in a car accident and is held in a shelter by two men who believe the world has been affected by a widespread chemical attack. Starring in the film are actors John Goodman (The Big Lebowsky, Argo), Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Live Free or Die Hard, Death Proof), John Gallagher (Margaret, The Newsroom), Douglas M. Griffin (Dallas Buyers Club, 12 Years A Slave), Suzanne Cryer (Wag the Dog, Silicon Valley), Bradley Cooper (Silver Linings Playbook, The Hangover), and Sumalee Montano (Nashville, Veep). The trailer is available here on MADE; check it out on the big screen this weekend!

New Full Length Trailer For ‘Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice’ Now Available

Last week fans were able to catch a sneak peak at a scene from the upcoming Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, due out in March 2016. The film is the follow up to director Zack Snyder‘s Man of Steel and the precursor to Warner Bros./DC Comics upcoming Justice League movie, which will follow the next year in 2017. Most of the supporting cast from Man of Steel will be reprising their roles, including Henry Cavill (Stardust, The Man From UNCLE) as Superman, Amy Adams (American Hustle, Big Eyes) as Lois Lane, Diane Lane (Unfaithful, Trumbo), and Michael Shannon (World Trade Center, Revolutionary Road), with newcomers Ben Affleck (Argo, The Town) as Batman, Gal Gadot (Fast Five, Furious 7), Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones, Conan the Barbarian), Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network, Zombieland), Holly Hunter (The Piano, Oh Brother Where Art Thou?), Jeremy Irons (The Man in the Iron Mask, Die Hard with a Vengeance), and Laurence Fishburne (Apocalypse Now, The Matrix) also joining the cast. The new trailer introduces the major players, including Eisenberg’s Lex Luther and a glimpse of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, and also of the opposing relationship between Batman and Superman and the political storm surrounding crime in Metropolis and Gotham City. Check out the full trailer here on MADE, and as always, enjoy!

New Trailer Offers Sneak-Peak Footage For Upcoming ‘Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice’

A new trailer has just been released for director Zack Snyder‘s upcoming Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice. The film will be the follow up to Snyder’s Man of Steel (2013), with Henry Cavill (Stardust, The Man from UNCLE) and Oscar-nominee Amy Adams (American Hustle, Big Eyes) reprising their roles as Superman and Lois Lane, and introducing Ben Affleck (The Town, Argo) in the role of Batman/Bruce Wayne. Honestly, it already looks terrible, but I’ll let you judge for yourself. In preparation for Warner Bros/DC Comics big screen production of Justice League, which is expected in theaters in 2017, the film will also introduce Gal Gadot (Fast & Furious 6, Furious 7) in the role of Wonder Woman (with an independent Wonder Woman movie also expected in theaters in 2017) and Jason Momoa (Conan the Barbarian, Bullet in the Head) in the role of Aquaman. And yes, there will be an independent Aquaman movie coming out in 2018, along with The Flash, who will be played by Ezra Miller (We Need To Talk About Kevin, The Perks of Being A Wallflower) and may be making a brief appearance in this movie. In other words, once Star Wars: The Force Awakens is out, it’s right back to milking the comic books. Continue reading

Toronto International Film Festival Headliners ‘Trumbo’ and ‘Spotlight’ Opening In Theaters This Friday

Movie-goers will have no shortage of great movies to see this weekend. Friday will not only have the chance to see The Peanuts Movie and the new James Bond installment, Spectre, but fans of festival-circuit films will also be able to see two major picks from this years’ Toronto International Film Festival. The first is the biographical drama from director Jay Roach (Meet the Parents, Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery) with Golden Globe winner Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad, Godzilla) titled Trumbo. The film follows the famous screenwriter Dalton Trumbo, who along with 300 other writers and filmmakers in Hollywood was blacklisted by the federal government during the Red Scare era of the American 1950s. Trumbo is, perhaps, one of the more interesting cases; he continued to write scripts under anonymous surnames while he was blacklisted and even won Oscars for his work on Roman Holiday (1953) and The Brave One (1956). Making up the supporting cast are actors Diane Lane (Unfaithful, Man of Steel), Helen Mirren (The Queen, The Hundred-Foot Journey), Louis C.K. (Louie, American Hustle), Elle Fanning (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Maleficent), John Goodman (The Big Lebowski, Argo), and Michael Stuhlbarg (Pawn Sacrifice, Steve Jobs), in a script adpated by John McNamara (Jericho, Aquarius) from the book Dalton Trumbo by author Bruce Cook. New Teaser Trailer For Upcoming ‘Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice’

Even though fans still have the rest of 2015’s impressive release schedule to appease their appetites, this weekend saw a new teaser-trailer for next year’s highly anticipated Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Directed by Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen) and starring Henry Cavill (Immortals, Man of Steel) as Superman and Oscar-winner Ben Affleck (Argo, Gone Girl) as Batman, the film will act as both a follow-up to 2013’s Man of Steel and a pre-cursor for DC Comic’s upcoming Justice League movie(s), due out in 2017 and 2019. Screenwriters David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight Rises, Man of Steel) and Chris Terrio (Heights, Argo) penned the script for the film, which will also feature Amy Adams (The Fighter, American Hustle) as Lois Lane, Gal Gadot (Knight and Day, Fast & Furious 6) as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa (Conan the Barbarian, Bullet in the Head) as Aquaman, Jessie Eisenberg (The Social Network, Now You See Me) as Lex Luther, Jeremy Irons (The Lion King, Die Hard With A Vengeance) as Alfred, and Diane Lane (The Perfect Storm, Unfaithful) as Martha Kent. The trailer includes a glimpse of Affleck’s Batman suit but doesn’t give any solid hints as to why Batman ends up facing off with Superman (although fans of the comics will probably have more knowledge about that!). Enjoy!

Warner Bros. Announces Comic-Film Release Schedule Through 2020

zack

I know there has been a lot of news recently regarding the comic-movie universe, stretching between the Marvel and the DC Comic characters. We already know that Captain America 3 and Avengers 3 are already on the plan books, with Avengers 4 potentially introducing an entire new cast of Avengers, not to mention that Avengers: Age of Ultron is still scheduled for release next summer. But what’s been going on in the DC Comic world? As I’m sure you know by now Ben Affleck has been cast to portray Batman opposite Henry Cavill‘s Superman in the upcoming Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, which will also feature Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luther, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, and Amy Adams as Lois Lane. The film will be directed by Man of Steel director Zack Snyder, who has now been confirmed by Warner Bros. to return for the Justice League Part 1 and Justice League Part 2 in 2017 and 2019, and that Affleck, Cavill, and Adams will have roles in those films. Jason Momoa will also be featured in a stand-alone Aquaman movie, and Ezra Miller will portray The Flash in a stand-alone movie. Batman and Superman are also both expected to have additional solo movies before 2020 rolls around. I have not heard anything regarding an independent Wonder Woman movie but I wouldn’t necessarily count that either. All this is supposed to happen before we get to 2020, so we should see a a lot of news coming out regarding our comic-hero icons, so stay tuned as we follow these stories more closely.

Jesse Eisenberg and Jeremy Irons Join Batman Vs. Superman Cast

jesse

The production on director Zack Snyder’s sequel to Man of Steel, thus far only dubbed Batman vs. Superman, has been doing a great job about keeping details under wraps. Warner Bros. recently decided to push back the release for the film to 2016, and the big rumor is that the movie will be filmed to coincide with The Justice League movie, but now the company has announced two very unexpected cast members have joined the project. Warner Bros. announced last week that Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network, Zombieland) and Jeremy Irons (Die Hard With A Vengeance, The Man in the Iron Mask) would be joining the cast of Batman/Superman in the roles of the villainous Lex Luther and dedicated Alfred Pennyworth, respectively. The news of the casting choice has come as a complete surprise. The names of the two actors have not even been considered by the public media, and neither Snyder, nor anybody else involved with the project, ever hinted at the two names even being considered for the roles. Eisenberg made a name for himself in 2011 when he was nominated for an Oscar for his lead role in The Social Network, and Irons has been a veteran name in Hollywood for the last 20 years, having received his first Oscar back in 1992 for Reversal of Fortune. Eisenberg and Irons join Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck in the cast of Batman/Superman, as well as Gal Gadot, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, and Lawrence Fishburne.

Fresh Off The Boat w/ Eddie Huang: London (Part 1)

This dude Eddie Huang has slowly but surely become a favorite of mine. From his restaurant “BaoHaus” to his Vice powered show “Fresh Off The Boat”, Eddie is definitely an interesting cat. In the above video he takes a trip across the pond to check out London’s food scene and do a little goofing off. Check out the clip and keep an eye out for part 2.
