Check Your Local Listings For ‘Papa Hemingway in Cuba’ This Friday

A new biographical drama titled Papa Hemingway in Cuba is opening in select theaters this Friday. The film comes from indie producer/director Bob Yari (Crash, The Illusionist) about young journalist Ed Meyers who, in 1959, travels to Havana to meet his idol Ernest Hemingway in the midst of the Cuban Revolution. Yari directed the film from a script that was written by an old friend of Hemingway, himself: a war correspondent named Denne Bart Petitclerc, who sadly was never able to get the project into full production before he died. Starring in the lead roles of Meyers and Hemingway are actors Giovanni Ribisi (Saving Private Ryan, Avatar) and Adrian Sparks (The Manhattan Project, The Purge: Anarchy), who are supported by James Remar (X-Men: First Class, Django Unchained), Joely Richardson (The Patriot, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), Shaun Toub (The Kite Runner, Iron Man 3), and Minka Kelly (Just Go With It, The Path). Ernest Hemingway’s granddaughter, Mariel Hemingway, is also making a cameo appearance in the film. The trailer is available on MADE. Be sure to look for it in theaters in your area this weekend.

New Boxing Drama ‘Creed’ With Michael B. Jordan Now Playing In Theaters

A new boxing drama titled Creed is opening in theaters today, just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday. Writer/director Ryan Coogler (The Sculptor, Fruitvale Station) pitched the script to Sylvester Stallone (Rambo, The Expendables) about a semi-sequel in the Rocky film series that finds former Heavyweight Champion Rocky Balboa mentoring the son of his old friend and rival Apollo Creed. Stallone will be reprising the role of Balboa alongside lead actor Michael B. Jordan (Chronicle, Fantastic Four) as Adonis Creed, with actors Tesse Thompson (When A Stranger Calls, Selma), Phylicia Rashad (The Cosby Show, Just Wright), and Ritchie Coster (American Gangster, The Dark Knight) appearing in the supporting cast. This will be the first time Stallone has reprised his Oscar-nominated role since 2006’s Rocky Balboa, which he also directed. Ryan Coogler directed this new film from a script he cowrote with Aaron Covington (The Mischievous Case of Cordelia Botkin, Potter’s Field). Personally, the fact that Stallone is once again on the big screen is really upsetting, and as far as seeing a new boxing movie, the studios should really have pushed for a later release considering the already forgettable Southpaw just opened in theaters not even six months ago. That being said, Michael B. Jordan is an excellent actor and Coogler received high marks for Fruitvale Station at the Cannes Film Festival in 2013. Maybe if Stallone’s screen time is kept to a minimal it might turn out alright, but chances are I won’t be the first to see it, so you’ll have to let me know.

Also opening in theaters today is Victor Frankenstein with Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, The Woman in Black) and James McAvoy (Wanted, X-Men: First Class). Enjoy your Thanksgiving!

New Comedy ‘Pixels’ Opening In Theaters This July 24th, 2015

With July getting closer and closer on the calendar, we have already started seeing some new trailers for the upcoming video-game comedy Pixels. The movie comes from director Chris Columbus (Home Alone, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone) and a script by writers Timothy Dowling (Just Go With It, This Means War) and Tim Herlihy (Happy Gilmore, Mr. Deeds) from a story by Patrick Jean (Tom the Cat, Motorville) about aliens who attack earth using the characters of Nintendo video game characters. Leading the cast line-up is comedy veteran Adam Sandler (Big Daddy, Grown-Ups), Josh Gad (Love & Other Drugs, The Wedding Ringer), Kevin James (The King of Queens, Paul Blart:Mall Cop), Peter Dinklage (The Station Agent, Game of Thrones), Michelle Monoghan (Eagle Eye, True Detective), and Jane Krakowski (Alfie, 30 Rock), along with your favorite Nintendo characters including PAC-MAN, Donkey Kong, and Space Invaders! Although the project seems pretty dumb in retrospect, it may just be the comedy to see this summer, although it did receive a PG-13 and not R rating. We’ll just have to wait for July to see if it’s a hidden gem or not. Stay tuned.

Watch The New Trailer For ‘Pixels’ With Adam Sandler And Kevin James

You’ve probably started to see TV-spots for the upcoming comedy Pixels with Adam Sandler (Happy Gilmore, Big Daddy) and Kevin James (The King of Queens, Grown-Ups) on your flat-screens. We first caught wind of this project about a year ago when it was announced that Michelle Monaghan (Eagle Eye, True Detective) and Peter Dinklage (The Station Agent, Game of Thrones) would also be joining the cast, and with the movie still scheduled to open in theaters this July 24th, the crew is now full-swing in post production. Harry Potter and Home Alone director Chris Columbus is leading the project with a script from Timothy Dowling (Just Go With It, This Means War) and Tim Herlihy (Mr. Deeds, Grown-Ups 2), written from a short by Patrick Jean. If you’ve seen the TV-spots then you get the premise: video-game heros like Donkey Kong and Pac Man come to Earth as an alien species and begin to go “Godzilla” on the human race. Pretty hilarious idea; so much so that I think it may actually be worth seeing in theaters. Enjoy!

Greg Grease & Isadore Recap

CP-Greg-Grease-02

Icehouse was definitely the place to be last Wednesday, January 8th; up and coming rapper Greg Grease headlined a lowkey show that also featured 1990 & Isadore. The latter played a captivating show with amazing instrumentation from the band all the way through, with all 4 members having their own shining moments. There were many familiar faces in the crowd, friends & fellow artists; creating an almost intimate atmosphere in the venue. Isadore’s sultry croons filled the place with even more anticipation, a long way from the wild and ruckus GRRRL PRTY nights held on the same stage. After Isadore’s performance the venue was a buzz, people were clearly thirsty for more. As Just 9 & Greg Grease began setting up, the long lines at the bar turned into a decent crowd infront of the stage and without wasting any time Grease opened his set fully clothed in his winter gear. As the set went on, he’d take off layer after layer. It almost felt as if he had 6 or so on, but true to his metaphor; with each song the atmosphere and intensity grew hotter. Greg showcased his DJ (Just 9) with a small scratch session & even played K.Raydio & Psymun’s new jam “Sweet Dreamz” saying, “This is my shit right now”. The night ended on a high note after Grease previewed a few new songs, this was definitely one of the better performances I’ve seen at Icehouse; the venue had a comfortable crowd allowing for pretty much any pick of places to watch. If you couldnt make it out, be sure to keep an eye out for more from Greg Grease & Isadore; this wont be the last time they perform an awesome show.
