New Indie Biographical Drama ‘Free State of Jones’ Now Playing In Theaters

A new drama from writer/director Gary Ross (Seabiscuit, The Hunger Games) titled Free State of Jones is now playing in theaters. The film follows the true story of Newton Knight, a farmer in Civil-War era Mississippi who abandoned the Confederate Army and formed a militia consisting of both white farmers and African-Americans who took over and declared Jones County an independent state. Ross adapted the screenplay from author Victoria Bynum’s The Free State of Jones: Mississippi’s Longest Civil War, although there are numerous publications of Knight’s stance in Jones County. Appearing as Newton Knight is Oscar-winner Matthew McConaughey (Interstellar, Dallas Buyer’s Club), who is joined onscreen by Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Concussion, Jupiter Ascending), Mahershala Ali (House of Cards, The Place Beyond the Pines), Keri Russell (The Americans, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), Christopher Berry (Django Unchained, 12 Years a Slave), and Jacob Lofland (Mud, The Scorch Trials). This is definitely a lesser-known portion of American history, but one that is definitely intriguing, although I will say that the trailer reads a bit like The Patriot. If you’re looking for an evening out this week, keep this one on your list. The trailer is available here on MADE.

New Drama ‘Concussion’ With Will Smith Now Playing In Theaters

The new drama titled Concussion with Will Smith (Independence Day, Men in Black) is now playing in theaters nationwide. Smith stars as Dr. Bennett Omalu, the pathologist who discovered CTE after studying pro-football players and the longterm effects of receiving multiple concussions from standard game play. Writer/director Peter Landesman (Parkland, Kill the Messenger) wrote the film to explore Dr. Omalu’s discovery and the attempts of the National Football League to keep it all under wraps, based on a GQ article titled Game Brain by Jeanne Marie Laskas. Co-starring in the film are actors Alec Baldwin (The Departed, The Good Shepard), Albert Brooks (Taxi Driver, A Most Violent Year), Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Beyond the Lights, Jupiter Ascending), and David Morse (The Green Mile, The Hurt Locker). Director Quentin Tarantino‘s new western The Hateful Eight is also available in certain theaters, so if you can be sure to check this one out as well while it’s still on big screens. Enjoy!

In support of beer and the triumphant¬†milestone of NASA reaching Pluto, we decided to¬†feature some limited rare releases from Bell’s Planet Series. In addition to that, this weekend marks one the most visible days with Venus being lit next to the moon.

Bell’s Jupiter, is an imperial brown ale brewed with seven varieties of malt and mixed hops – this brown ale is absolutely one of a kind. Sitting at an astonishing 8% ABV, this one will have you faded quick. Jupiter also features well balanced flavors of roasted biscuits and chocolate, to make for one delicious brew. This one is a must buy.

Venus. This planet is as interesting as this beer. While this one is certainly not my favorite, it is still worthy of a mention. I mean, how many beers have you tried that were brewed with Apricot, Vanilla, and Cardamon.

The ingredients say it all with this one. Sweetness of Vanilla, tartness of Apricots and a spicy profile with Cardamon. It is a whirlwind of flavors that are quite confusing to the palate, but yet, I find it to be a decent beer. This one sits at 7.5% ABV, which you cannot taste one bit. Keep a look out for these brews this weekend and let us know what you think.

New Film From Wachowski Siblings ‘Jupiter Ascending’ Now Playing In Theaters

The new film from Andy and Lana Wachowski, Jupiter Ascending, is now playing in theaters nationwide. Starring Mila Kunis (Ted, Oz:The Great and Powerful), Channing Tatum (21 Jump Street, White House Down), Sean Bean (The Lord of the Rings:The Fellowship of the Ring, Game of Thrones), and Oscar-nominee Eddie Redmayne (Les Miserables, The Theory of Everything), the film follows Jupiter (Kunis), a young woman living in Earth’s distant future who is the unknowing heir of a powerful cosmic dynasty and must travel into space with warrior Caine (Tatum) in order to stop an evil tyrant (Redmayne) from claiming her birthright. Directors Andy and Lana Wachowski (The Matrix Trilogy) co-wrote the screenplay for the film (which is rumored to have been more than 600 pages long), which was originally scheduled for a June 2014 release, but considering the scale of the film and the necessity for minute detail in the special effects department, the film was pushed back to a February 2015 release. While the Wachowski’s made history with their groundbreaking special-effects work in The Matrix, some movie-goers who have already seen Jupiter warned me to watch it on a standard screen, and not necessarily in 3D, owing to the fact that the movie is so heavily reliant on blue-screen backdrops and digital effects. Anyway, you can watch the trailer here on MADE, and if you’re a fan of the Wachowski’s filmmaking, definitely make an effort to check it out.

Writing/Directing Duo Andy And Lana Wachowski Returning Next Month With ‘Jupiter Ascending’

The creators behind The Matrix trilogy and Cloud Atlas are returning next month with a new project titled Jupiter Ascending, starring Mila Kunis (Black Swan, Ted), Channing Tatum (21 Jump Street, White House Down), and Eddie Redmayne (Les Miserables, The Theory of Everything). The film takes place in a futuristic world in which the Queen of the Universe elects a young human woman for assassination in an effort to ensure her Reign will continue. The movie is written and directed by filmmaking siblings Andy and Lana Wachowski, and like The Matrix and Cloud Atlas, the visual effects look outstanding. As for how great a movie it will be as a whole, however, I’m not so sure. The Matrix movies were all pretty great, but Cloud Atlas wasn’t particularly well received by audiences owing to the fact that the story jumped around a lot and was harder to follow at times, but maybe this one will have a much smoother flow to it. We’ll find out February 6th. In the meantime you can watch the trailer here on MADE.
