Special 20th Anniversary Screenings of Luc Besson’s ‘The Fifth Element’ Showing This May

In 1997, writer/director Luc Besson (Leon: The Professional, The Family) released his cult sci-fi classic The Fifth Element, featuring an all-star cast led by Bruce Willis (Die Hard, Pulp Fiction), Milla Jovovich (Dazed and Confused, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter), Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight Rises, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), Chris Tucker (Friday, Rush Hour), and Ian Holm (The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Day After Tomorrow). Set in the 23rd century, the film follows a cab driver in New York City whose life changes when he inadvertently picks up Leeloo. After being contacted by a strange priest, who informs him of Leeloo’s importance in defeating a great Evil, the three of them embark on a mission to save Leeloo and the universe at large.

The film was nominated for an Oscar for Best Sound Effects/Editing and, over the years, has developed a massive cult following. It also furthered the career of Milla Jovovich, who went on to star in such films as Zoolander and the Resident Evil film series. As a special 20th Anniversary celebration, The Fifth Element will be playing in select theaters across the country on May 14th and 17th. ‘Game of Thrones’ Author George R.R. Martin’s ‘In The Lost Lands’ Getting Big-Screen Adaptation With Milla Jovovich

Milla Jovovich as Alice in Resident Evil: Extinction (2007).

Author George R.R. Martin‘s Game of Thrones is currently awaiting it’s fifth season on HBO this April, but some another series of his titled In The Lost Lands, is currently on the drawing boards for a big-screen adaptation with actress Milla Jovovich (The Fifth Element, Resident Evil). The film will follow a trio of three interconnected short-stories by Martin that will be scripted and directed by German filmmaker Constantin Werner (Dead Leaves, The Pagan Queen), and also feature actor Justin Chatwin (Shameless, War of the Worlds) in one of the supporting roles. Jovovich plays a sorceress who is sent to the Lost Lands to obtain the power of shape-shifting, and her primary plot-line comes to directly affect the other two stories that take place across time. No word on when we can expect to see this one in theaters, but considering the enormous success Game of Thrones has experienced with audiences, we’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for progress on this one.
