Last night the 74th annual Golden Globe Awards were held at the Beverly Hilton. Jimmy Falon hosted the event which was filled with surprises, including a politically-driven speech from Meryl Streep. But perhaps the most impressive part of the evening was the new musical from Whiplash director Damien Chazelle, La La Land, which set a new record with 7 Golden Globe awards, including Best Picture – Musical or Comedy. Ryan Gosling (Blue Valentine, The Big Short) and Emma Stone (The Help, Birdman) both took home the Globe for Best Actor/Actress in a Musical or Comedy, and Chazelle won the Globe for Best Director. La La Land also won for Best Screenplay, Best Original Score, and Best Original Song. Congratulations to all the winners! The full list of winners is provided below. Continue reading

New Coen Brothers Comedy ‘Hail Caesar!’ Opening In Theaters February 5th

The Coen Brothers are finally back on the big screen with a new comedy titled Hail Caesar!. Starring Scarlett Johansson (The Avengers, Iron Man 2), Channing Tatum (21 Jump Street, Foxcatcher), Ralph Fiennes (The Constant Gardener, Spectre), Jonah Hill (The Wolf of Wall Street, Moneyball) and Coen regulars Tilda Swinton (Burn After Reading, The Grand Budapest Hotel), Josh Brolin (No Country For Old Men, Men In Black 3), and George Clooney (Oh Brother Where Art Thou?, Ocean’s Eleven), the film follows a Hollywood ‘fixer’ who works for Capital Records in the 1950s and must deal with the disappearance of the studio’s biggest star before an upcoming release is ruined by the schemers behind the kidnapping. The film was co-written and directed by Joel and Ethan Coen (in their usual fashion), and will be their first project together since 2013’s Oscar-nominated drama Inside Llewyn Davis with Oscar Isaac (A Most Violent Year, Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and Carey Mulligan (Drive, The Great Gatsby), although they have written several films since then, including director Angelina Jolie’s Unbroken and Steven Spielberg’s Bridge of Spies. The trailer for Hail Caesar! is available here on MADE. Look for it in theaters this February 5th.

This week will see James Franco (Pineapple Express, Rise of the Planet of the Apes) and Jonah Hill (Superbad, The Wolf of Wall Street)’s new film, True Story, opening in theaters nationwide. The film comes from an adaptation of former New York Times reporter Michael Finkel (portrayed by Hill) by screenwriter Rupert Goold, and tells of Finkel’s relationship with one Christian Longo (Franco), a man awaiting trial in prison for the charge of murdering his entire family who had been reportedly hiding under Finkel’s identity. Goold is also in the director’s chair for this project, which also stars Oscar-nominee Felicity Jones (The Amazing Spider-Man 2, The Theory of Everything). Watch the trailer one more time on MADE, then catch it in theaters this weekend!

See The New Trailer For Upcoming Thriller ‘True Story’ With Jonah Hill And James Franco

Comedy pals Jonah Hill (Superbad, The Wolf of Wall Street) and James Franco (127 Hours, Pineapple Express) will next appear on the big screen in the upcoming dramatic-thriller True Story. The two will star as former New York Times journalist Michael Finkel and FBI-Most-Wanted-List member Christian Longo, in a film by director Rupert Goold (Great Performances, The Hollow Crown), who adapted the script from Finkel’s memoir. True Story tells an enthralling tale about how Finkel came to meet Christian Longo after being informed by the FBI that Longo had, in fact, been using his identity while on the run, and the relationship the two forged while Longo was awaiting trial for murdering his family. The film first premiered at the Sundance Film Festival back in January and will see a limited release this April 17th. You can see the new trailer here on MADE. Enjoy!

Comedy Director Adam McKay Filling In Cast For Upcoming Drama ‘The Big Short’

Director Adam McKay on the set of Anchorman 2: The Legend of Ron Burgandy.

Director Adam McKay is more popularly known for his work on films like Anchorman, Talladega Nights, and Step-Brothers, and fans will see more of his comedic approach in the upcoming comic-adaptation of Ant-Man with Paul Rudd in the title role, but the director has more on his upcoming schedule than just a couple of outlandish comedies. This week it was announced that actors Christian Bale (The Dark Knight, Exodus: Gods and Kings), Ryan Gosling (Drive, The Ides of March), Brad Pitt (Fight Club, Ocean’s Eleven), and McKay-movie regular Steve Carell (Little Miss Sunshine, Anchorman) will be taking roles in McKay’s upcoming financial drama The Big Short. The film comes from an adaptation of the book by author Michael Lewis, which follows the collapse of the financial industry in relation to the real-estate markets and unregulated stock and bond trades. Lewis is also the author of Moneyball, which was adapted for the big screen back in 2011 by director Bennett Miller (The Cruise, Capote) and also starred Brad Pitt, Jonah Hill, and Robin Wright. Miller also just paired up with Steve Carell in 2014 for the biographical-drama Foxcatcher, which now has three Golden Globe nominations for Best Picture, Best Actor (Carell) and Best Supporting Actor (Mark Ruffalo). Seeing as the remainder of the supporting cast for The Big Short has yet to be filled and the project has no official release date, it may be a while before we see it in theaters, but we’ll keep an eye out for more news.

’23 Jump Street’ In The Works With Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum, And Writer Rodney Rothman

22

Even though audiences had fairly mixed feelings about the comedy sequel 22 Jump Street, the movie was successful enough for the studio to reunite actors Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum with writer Rodney Rothman for a third movie, (think Asian reporter Tricia Takanawa’s voice…) “appropriately titled 23 Jump Street.” Producer Neal Moritz will return to produce the film for Sony Pictures. There is no word yet on what the plot will consist of, but if you caught the post-credit teaser posters at the end of 22 Jump Street I’m sure you’ll understand the ongoing joke of ridiculous hypothetical posters for Jump Street sequels. We’ll look for more news on 23 Jump Street as it comes out.

Frances McDormand Joining Cast Of Coen Brothers’ Upcoming Comedy ‘Hail Caesar’

reading

Frances McDormand recently revealed that she had an unknown role in the upcoming comedy from Joel and Ethan Coen, Hail Caesar. McDormand is no stranger to Coen Brothers movies, having appeared in Burn After Reading (2008), The Man Who Wasn’t There (2001), and Raising Arizona (1987). She also secured an Oscar for Best Actress for the Coen’s 1997 crime thriller Fargo. Hail Caesar already has an all-star cast attached to appear, including George Clooney in the lead role, with Scarlett Johansson, Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill, Josh Brolin, Ralph Fiennes, Tilda Swinton, and Alden Ehrenreich (who just appeared in Woody Allen’s Oscar-winning dramedy Blue Jasmine) making up the supporting cast. While McDormand is obviously a great addition to the cast, the decision to cast her is really not so surprising. The Coens have always had a tendency to work with the same actors, including George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Tilda Swinton, Jeff Bridges, and Josh Brolin. Hail Caesar will follow the story of Eddie Mannix, a “fixer” in the studios of Hollywood responsible for protecting the reputations of the film industry’s biggest moneymakers. It should make for an interesting watch, but we won’t see it hit theaters until sometime in 2015, so stay tuned.

Director Paul Thomas Anderson has added some surprising names to the cast of his next drama Inherent Vice, which stars Reese Witherspoon, Josh Brolin, Joaquin Phoenix, and Benicio Del Toro. Now actress Jillian Bell has reported that she and fellow Workaholics star Anders Holm will also be appearing in small parts in the movie. Bell will make an appearance as a waitress in a scene with Del Toro, and although Holm’s role has not been disclosed, Bell assures Cosmo that he is making an appearance. Bell can also be seen right now in theaters alongside Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum in 22 Jump Street, which also stars Ice Cube and Parks and Recreations favorite Nick Offerman. Inherent Vice is currently in post-production and is currently scheduled for release in January 2015.

‘Sausage Party’ Adds Salma Hayek To All-Star Lineup

Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg are once again collaborating on a new project after the huge popularity of their last film, This Is The End, which the two co-wrote together and which featured all of their celebrity co-stars playing themselves, including Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, Paul Rudd, James Franco, and Danny McBride. Now the two are working on an animated comedy-film, titled Sausage Party, that follows a sausage and his pales who must navigate their way through the super-market and get back to their proper location on the shelf before the big Fourth of July sale. The movie will once again feature Franco, Hill, and Cera, as well as Kristen Wiig, Edward Norton, and David Krumholtz all providing voices for the R-rated characters, but now there is news that Salma Hayek will also be joining the cast. Rogan and Goldberg are currently writing the project, but the two will not be in the director’s chair this time around. Instead, experienced animation directors Conrad Vernon and Greg Tiernan will be taking over the responsibility, but we’ll have to wait for more news before we know anything else. The movie has not official release date, but it will most likely be ready for release sometime in 2015.

Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill Hitting Theaters Again This Summer With ’22 Jump Street’

22

Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill will be back in theaters this summer as the undercover cop-duo Jenko and Schmidt in the sequel to 2012’s 21 Jump Street, appropriately titled 22 Jump Street. The movie is once again being directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and the script was written by Michael Bacall (who wrote the screenplay for the first film) and Oren Uziel. The first film was an action-comedy adventure that followed two young cops who are assigned to the precinct at 21, Jump Street and are sent undercover to a high school in order to bust up a narcotics ring. The movie is based on the late 80’s TV hit 21 Jump Street, which starred Johnny Depp and Dustin Nguyen as cops working out of the same precinct. The film adaptation also featured Dave Franco, Ice Cube, and Nick Offerman, who will all reprise their roles for the sequel. The movie is scheduled for release on June 13. You can check out the trailer below. Enjoy!
