Stephen King Adaptation ‘The Dark Tower’ Opening In Theaters This August

Author Stephen King is making a big cinematic comeback in 2017. A new adaptation of his 1986 horror-classic It is opening in theaters this September, and is expected to be a two-part installation with the second film following soon after. Before It hits theaters, however, another Stephen King adaptation will see a nationwide release in the form of The Dark Tower. Based on the final novel in his eight-part series, The Dark Tower, the film follows a man named Roland Deschain, the Last Gunslinger, who faces off with the Man in Black, Walter O’Dim, in an effort to stop him from destroying the Dark Tower, a mystical building that serves as the center of all universes. In writing the series, King drew inspiration from several sources, including the Arthurian Legend, J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, and the American West. Continue reading

New First-Person Film ‘Hardcore Henry’ Opening In Theaters This Friday

This week, movie-goers will get to have a pretty unusual experience in the theaters in the form of writer/director Ilya Naishuller‘s new first-person action flick, Hardcore Henry. The film was shot “as humanly as possible” according to Naishuller, with the entire story viewed from the perspective of the main character, who is back from the dead without his memory and must rediscover his identity to save his wife from a psychotic telekinetic warlord who is after the technology that brought Henry back to life. Starring in the film are actors Sharlto Copley (District 9, Elyisum), Tim Roth (Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction), Haley Bennett (Marly & Me, The Equalizer), and Darya Charusha (Vdrebezgi, Kholodnyy Front). Although this is Naishuller’s first time out on a major project, the concept itself is pretty sweet, and the trailer looks even better! What’s more is it doesn’t look like there’s an over dependence on CGI. The trailer is available here on MADE. Check it out in theaters this Friday.

Oscar-Nominated Actor Jackie Earle Haley Will Join Cast Of ‘London Has Fallen’

olympus

With pretty much all of the original cast returning from the blockbuster hit Olympus Has Fallen, including Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart, and Oscar-winner Morgan Freeman, there is a chance that the upcoming sequel London Has Fallen will be at least as action-packed as the original, but any kind of a story the writers try to produce already seems automatically cliche. Olympus Has Fallen was released in 2013 and was praised for it’s action sequences and visual effects, but the story wasn’t necessarily anything you haven’t heard before. The new movie will also bring back original actors Melissa Leo, Angela Bassett, and Radha Mitchell, who will also be joined by Oscar-nominated actor Jackie Earle Haley. Haley is most widely known by younger audiences for portraying the masked hero Rorschach in Zack Snyder’s Watchmen (2009), but his Academy Award-nomination came from his supporting role in director Todd Field’s Little Children (2006). The actor has also appeared in All The King’s Men (2006), Semi-Pro (2008), Shutter Island (2010), Lincoln (2012), and the recent remake of RoboCop earlier this year from Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. The plot will apparently involve an assassination plot that will take place at the funeral of Prime Minister, but it reads to me like this series is turning into a modern-day Escape From New York/Escape From LA sequel series: just a similar story taking place in a new location, but I guess we’ll see when it hits theaters in 2015. The film will be directed by Babak Nanafi from a script by Olympus Has Fallen writers Creighton Rothenberger and Katrin Benedikt and new team member Christian Gudegast.

Entourage Movie Begins Filming In Los Angeles; Haley Joel Osment Joins Cast

entourage

After almost five years of delays and postponements, a film adaptation of the HBO series Entourage is finally underway and shooting began earlier this week in Los Angeles with Adrian Grenier, Kevin Connolly, Kevin Dillon, Jerry Ferarra and Jeremy Pivon reuniting in their respective roles. The script was written and is being directed by Doug Ellen, who originally created the series, and picks up several years after the series ended, with Vincent Chase (Adrian Grenier) shooting an adaptation of Dracula. The film has Billy Bob Thornton joining the cast as the Dracula financier, whose son, played by Haley Joel Osment, is sent to LA to oversee the project. Series producer Mark Wahlberg will be joining Ellen for the film’s production responsibilities, along with Stephen Levinson and Wayne Carmona. Supporting cast members also returning for the film include Emmanuelle Chriqui (Sloan), Rhys Coiro (Billy Walsh), Rex Lee (Ari’s assistant Lloyd), Perrey Reeves (Ari’s wife), and Debi Mazar (Vince’s publicist). Stay tuned for more news.
