Every year GYM throws a banging party for his birthday, this time it will go down at Domo Gastro over in Northeast, Minneapolis. The event features a lengthy lineup and you can expect more than a few special guests, making for a eclectic night of music. Both St. Paul and Minneapolis will be well respresented with performances from Saint Laron, Mac Drakula, Prolly Tri$, Vice Boys, Pilot Johnny, and Destiny Spike among others. Soundset weekend will feature a bunch of awesome events and pre-parties, one of the more notable being “Minnisodope.” The Viking Bar will host some of the Twin Cities’ hottest up and comers with performances from Saint Laron, GYM, Rich Garvey, Mixie DBest, and Blamsiss, as well as DJ Low on the 1s & 2s. There will also be artwork and clothing from Bones N’ Furr and Red Letter, respectively. First Avenue’s 7th Street Entry might be the place to go tonight for an event dubbed, “The Shimmy.” The lineup is pretty stacked featuring DJ Sets from Tek, Boogie WNDRLND, UJU, and Travis Gorman; as well as appearances from Sam Wayne, Prolly Tri$, and GYM. The Twin Cities’ hip hop scene is firing on all cylinders right now and as of next week, things don’t look like things will be slowing down. Minneapolis artist, GYM, took to Twitter yesterday to release his new mixtape Low Noise Vol. 1. Obviously hinting at more to come, the 5 track project breezes by at just under 20 mins. Fur Ever Home Rescue is teaming up with a plethora of dope local acts for what should be a great benefit show. Fur Ever Home Rescue focuses on saving at risk pets from dangerous environments, this event will donate ALL proceeds towards their cause. The evening will feature performances from GYM, Radio Ahlee, Bottle Kids and sets from DJ low, DJ Baby Ghost, and John Daniel; rounding out what should be a good night. Whether you’re looking to get in shape, change up your workout routine, or compete in competition boxing, Uppercut Gym in NE Minneapolis has you covered. Located in the Arts District behind the Northrup King Building at 1324 Quincy St. NE, the graffiti covered warehouse style building has been training, teaching, and developing the art of boxing since Lisa Bauch opened the gym in 1996. Uppercut, is unique because it is the “only boxing gym in the United States solely owned and operated by a woman.” Two complete boxing rings are staggered at each corner of largest boxing facility in MPLS with workout equipment, boxing bags, open area with mirrors, and outside area complete with sand pit spaced throughout.
