Toronto International Film Festival Headliners ‘Trumbo’ and ‘Spotlight’ Opening In Theaters This Friday

Movie-goers will have no shortage of great movies to see this weekend. Friday will not only have the chance to see The Peanuts Movie and the new James Bond installment, Spectre, but fans of festival-circuit films will also be able to see two major picks from this years’ Toronto International Film Festival. The first is the biographical drama from director Jay Roach (Meet the Parents, Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery) with Golden Globe winner Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad, Godzilla) titled Trumbo. The film follows the famous screenwriter Dalton Trumbo, who along with 300 other writers and filmmakers in Hollywood was blacklisted by the federal government during the Red Scare era of the American 1950s. Trumbo is, perhaps, one of the more interesting cases; he continued to write scripts under anonymous surnames while he was blacklisted and even won Oscars for his work on Roman Holiday (1953) and The Brave One (1956). Making up the supporting cast are actors Diane Lane (Unfaithful, Man of Steel), Helen Mirren (The Queen, The Hundred-Foot Journey), Louis C.K. (Louie, American Hustle), Elle Fanning (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Maleficent), John Goodman (The Big Lebowski, Argo), and Michael Stuhlbarg (Pawn Sacrifice, Steve Jobs), in a script adpated by John McNamara (Jericho, Aquarius) from the book Dalton Trumbo by author Bruce Cook. Director Jerry Jameson’s ‘Captive’ Opening In Theaters This Friday

A new drama from director Jerry Jameson (Airport 77, Magnum PI) titled Captive is opening in theaters nationwide this Friday. Based on the novel An Unlikely Angel by Ashley Smith, the film tells of her 2005 encounter with Brian Nichols, who showed up at her apartment in the middle of the night and held her hostage for seven hours before letting her go and turning himself into authorities for murdering four people. Starring as Smith is Kate Mara (127 Hours, Fantastic Four), and Golden Globe winner David Oyelowo (Interstellar, Selma) as Brian Nichols. Making up the supporting cast are actors Mimi Rogers (Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, Lost In Space), Michael K. Williams (Gone Baby Gone, 12 Years A Slave), and Jessica Oyelowo (Sleepy Hollow, Alice in Wonderland). The book was adapted for the screen by Brian Bird (The Last Sin Eater, The Confession). The trailer is available here on MADE. This one should prove to be a pretty intense watch, but with David Oyelowo included in the line-up it should turn out to be a pretty good one. Enjoy!

‘Trumbo’, ‘The Martian’, and ‘Black Mass’ Will Appear At This Fall’s Toronto International Film Festival

Every year the Toronto International Film Festival serves as one of the major international film festivals that close out the fiscal year, and this year’s festival is sure to feature an excellent celebration of Oscar-worthy filmmaking. Toronto’s film festival is usually filled with entries seen earlier in the year at festivals like Sundance and Cannes, but it also brings its own special line-up to its audience. This year several highly anticipated films will have the honor of being shown during the festivities, most notably the Whitey Bulger biopic Black Mass with Johnny Depp, Matt Damon‘s next space adventure following Interstellar titled The Martian, and one I personally am really excited to see, another biopic called Trumbo with Emmy-winner Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad, Godzilla) in the title role of McCarthy-era screenwriter Dalton Trumbo, whose film credits were published under various pseudonyms over the years after he was blacklisted during Senator McCarthy’s famous Communist-trials in the 1950s. ‘Black Mass’ Opening In Theaters This September

Oscar-nominee Johnny Depp (Blow, Public Enemies) has recently been working on new installments for the Pirates of the Caribbean and Alice in Wonderland franchises, plus dealing with his girlfriend being locked up in Australia for smuggling canine’s into the country. But his next big project with director Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart, Out of the Furnace) is currently gearing up for the big screen this September. Black Mass, which we’ve been following for some time now, stars Depp as Whitey Bulger, perhaps the most violent and notorious gangster in the history of South Boston. The film comes from the book Black Mass: The Story of an Unholy Alliance Between the FBI and the Irish Mob by Boston Globe reporters Dick Lehr and Gerald O’Neill and chronicles Bulger’s partnership with FBI agent John Connolly, who long delayed the bureau’s capture of Bulger by focusing his attention on Bulger’s competitors. The movie has undergone several changes over the last year, including director Barry Levinson and actor Tom Hardy being attached at various points in the production. Making up the final supporting cast include actors Dakota Johnson (21 Jump Street, Fifty Shades of Grey), Joel Edgerton (The Great Gatsby, Exodus: Gods and Kings), Benedict Cumberbatch (Star Trek: Into Darkness, The Imitation Game), Kevin Bacon (Apollo 13, Mystic River), Adam Scott (Step Brothers, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty), and Peter Sarsgaard (Jarhead, Flightplan). The book by Lehr and O’Neill was adapted for the big screen by Jez Butterworth (Edge of Tomorrow, Get On Up) and Mark Mallouk (Rush, A Walk Among The Tombstones). Watch the full-length trailer here on MADE, and be sure to mark your calendars for September 18th!

‘The Man From U.N.C.L.E.’ Opening In Theaters This Friday

This Friday movie audiences can get a taste of 1960s spy-era television with a big-screen adaptation of the classic series The Man From U.N.C.L.E. Penned for the screen and directed by Guy Ritchie (Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch), the story centers on an American and Russian spy who join forces during the Cold War era to seek out a secret organization attempting to acquire and set of nuclear weapons. Starring in the film are actors Henry Cavill (The Cold Light of Day, Man of Steel), Armie Hammer (The Social Network, The Lone Ranger), Alicia Vikander (A Royal Affair, Ex Machina), Elizabeth Debicki (A Few Best Men, The Great Gatsby), and Hugh Grant (About A Boy, Love Actually). The original series aired on NBC from 1964-1968, one of many spy series of the time including I Spy and, of course, author Ian Fleming’s James Bond series with Sean Connery. Creator Sam Rolfe actually approached Fleming to help write the series. The acronym U.N.C.L.E. stands for United Network Command for Law and Enforcement, and the show won the Golden Globe in 1966 for Best Television Series. The trailer is available here on MADE, and if you’re a fan of espionage movies or the James Bond films, be sure to see it on the big screen this Friday!

‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ Now Playing In Theaters Nationwide

At last we have the first big blockbuster release for 2015. Avengers: Age of Ultron is now playing in theaters nationwide, and with the huge success the film saw during its European release two weeks ago, it should be an even bigger hit here in the US. Robert Downey Jr (Good Night and Good Luck, The Judge), Chris Evans (Captain America: The First Avenger, Unstoppable), Scarlett Johansson (Lost in Translation, The Spirit), Chris Hemsworth (Thor: The Dark World, Rush), Mark Ruffalo (Shutter Island, Now You See Me), Jeremy Renner (The Bourne Legacy, American Hustle), and Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction, Django: Unchained) are all back to reprise their roles as the Avengers, with Golden Globe nominee James Spader (The Blacklist, Lincoln) providing the voice of Ultron. Oscar-nominated writer/director Joss Whedon (Toy Story, The Avengers) also returned to lead the project. Here’s the trailer one more time, now go see it on the big screen!!

Check Out The New Trailer For ‘Joe Dirt 2: Beautiful Loser’

We first heard about comedian David Spade‘s upcoming sequel to his 2001 original hit back in the fall, and now with summer quickly approaching we have a new sequel to appease our curiosity! The new sequel, titled Joe Dirt 2: Beautiful Loser, is being directed by original co-writer Fred Wolf (Strange Wilderness, The House Bunny) and was scripted by Spade (Tommy Boy, Grown Ups), himself, who also starred and co-wrote the original film. This time out we find Joe caught in a time warp that puts him on yet another epic quest across land (and time) to find the family he had just discovered at the conclusion of the first film. Returning to reprise their roles from the original are actors Brittany Daniel (White Chicks, It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia), Golden Globe-nominee Adam Beach (Windtalkers, Flags of our Fathers), and Academy Award-winner Christopher Walken (The Deer Hunter, Catch Me If You Can), plus a whole new ensemble of characters including Patrick Warburton (Family Guy, Ted) and Susie Abromeit (Sex Drive, Battle Los Angeles). Fans, however, will not likely be seeing this one show on the big screen; part of the deal in financing/making the film was that Spade would exclusively release it on the website Krackle, even though Happy Madison Productions is lending a hand in the production. So come July 16th you’ll have to go onto Krackle to see the new movie. For now, here’s the first trailer…Enjoy!

‘Danny Collins’ Now Playing In Theaters Nationwide

Al Pacino‘s new film Danny Collins is now expanding to theaters across the country. Scripted and directed by Dan Fogelman (Crazy Stupid Love, The Guilt Trip), the film finds Pacino (The Godfather, Scarface) portraying aging rock star Danny Collins, who, still enraptured in his younger rock-n-roll lifestyle, receives a never delivered letter from his manager, addressed to Collins from former Beatle John Lennon. Having read and been inspired by Lennon’s comments on life, family and friends, Collins sets out on a mission to rediscover his own family and make some long-delayed amends. Co-starring in the film is 4-time Oscar nominee Annette Bening (American Beauty, The Kids Are Alright), Golden Globe winner Jennifer Garner (Juno, Dallas Buyers Club), Bobby Cannavale (The Station Agent, Chef), and Oscar-winner Christopher Plummer (The Sound of Music, A Beautiful Mind). Check out the trailer here on MADE, then be sure to see it on the big screen!

New Sci-Fi Drama ‘Ex Machina’ Opening In Theaters April 10th, 2015

Writer/directorAlex Garland‘s upcoming sci-fi drama, Ex Machina, will see a limited release this April 10th. This will be the directorial debut for Garland, who is known for penning such projects as The Beach and 28 Days Later, but after seeing the trailer I don’t think that’s going to be a problem that will affect the film’s popularity among movie-goers. Starring Domhnall Gleeson (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, Unbroken), Alicia Vikander (A Royal Affair, Son of a Gun), and Golden Globe nominee Oscar Isaac (Inside Llewyn Davis, A Most Violent Year), the film follows a young programmer who wins the chance to visit his CEO’s private retreat, only to find he has secretly been selected to participate in a strange experiment involving artificial intelligence and the beautiful robot that contains it. This one definitely looks like a pretty crazy mind-fuck, so I would definitely consider putting this on the Must-See list, if not for the story but for the special effects you can see in the trailer. You can see the trailer one more time here on MADE, then be sure to see this one while it’s still on the big screen.
