Last weekend, we got the chance to stop by Legacy Glassworks in Minneapolis’ Lyn-Lake neighborhood and lets just say we enjoyed what we saw. Their space sits right off the corners of Lake and Lyndale, a growing intersection which has seen somewhat of a transformation over the last few years. Upon entering the store the first thing we noticed was the vast amount of artwork displayed all over the room, not too much clutter, just a TON of local glass work and artwork. Artisanal wares from necklaces to paintings, to glass pipes to beads, this place has it all at decent prices. The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable, one thing that set this place a notch above others in my book. Word around town is that they even offer glassblowing classes from time to time. Whether your stopping in for something economical or looking to make an investment in a piece of artwork, they’ve got you covered; check out some of the pics above and click the link below for their official website.
When people living in Minneapolis think of where to get a good cup of coffee in a comfortable setting, most would probably name one of the numerous shops in Uptown or the Northeast neighborhoods. Nestled in the Stevens Square neighborhood sits one of the city’s best kept secrets, the Boiler Room. Situated on 3rd Avenue near 19th street, the Boiler Room is slowly establishing itself as the areas “go to” coffee shop. Providing 3 house blends along with a plethora of other drinks including mochas, espressos and a variety of teas; I’ve found the Boiler Room to be much better than your average Starbucks or Caribou. They also serve up some awesome waffles, rice crispy treats, brownies, cookies and amazing muffins; the chocolate chip banana nut being a favorite. Free Wi-Fi (of course) and a homey atmosphere like your best friend’s basement will have you wondering where the last 4 hours went. If you’re ever near 3rd ave or the Stevens Square neighborhood make sure to stop in for a cup of Joe, you wont be disappointed.
Korean electronics maker LG, has unveiled a pretty ingenious feature for their next generation of tvs. The new screens will come equipped with a feature called “Gallery Mode”, as the name implies the tv will showcase famous paintings while on sleep or simply on gallery mode. I think this is a dope ass idea, no longer will a huge black screen take up space on your wall. No release date set as of now but we’d assume these will drop sometime next year.
Jay Z continues his massive campaign following the release of his latest album “Magna Carta Holy Grail” with the announcement that he’ll be teaming up with HBO on a documentary. Jay-Z is literally EVERYWHERE right now. The other day he was featured at New York City’s Pace Gallery as a living art installation. Hov stood on a platform and performed “Picasso Baby” for around 6 hours while tourists and fans watched along. Jay-Z is making some really dope moves right now, each week seems to bring something fresh to the table. Stay tuned to see what’s next.
Coming out of Berlin, Civilist has announced a collaboration with Nike SB on the above Dunk High. The shoe is said to be inspired by the New National Gallery which lies in downtown Berlin. The gallery also functions as a skate spot, peep the waxed cotton laces, they represent the many waxed ledges that are scattered around the gallery grounds. These dropped in store yesterday and will be extremely hard to get your hands on, Ebay will most likely be the only way to grab a pair and it wont be cheap.
