‘Vacation’ Sequel/Reboot Will Feature Brief ‘Freaks & Geeks’ Reunion

freaks

A few weeks back we were following the development of a sequel/reboot of the classic National Lampoon‘s Vacation from writers Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, and that Leslie Mann would be joining a cast that includes Chris Hemsworth, Christina Applegate, Charlie Day, and Ed Helms, and original actors Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo. With filming already underway, a cool little bit of news came out of writer/director John Francis Daley in a recent interview with Vulture. Daley was a cast member on director Judd Apatow‘s 1999 TV series Freaks and Geeks, and he may be joining former cast-members Samm Levine and Martin Starr in a brief cameo in the Vacation reboot. We’re at least hoping that they will all three appear at the same time; he really only indicated that they all had roles in the film. It is also awfully coincidental or flat out intentional that Leslie Mann was added to the cast, seeing as her husband is director Judd Apatow! Crazy shit right? Vacation is scheduled to be released in theaters on October 9, 2015, so we’ve got another year before we get to see if the reunion actually happens on screen. Sit tight!

‘Ghostbusters 3’ Has Bill Murray’s Support For A Lady-Squad Of Busters!!

busters

Since the death of original writer and actor Harold Ramis earlier this year, the fate of Ghostbusters 3 has been hanging on the edge between becoming a potential hollywood-hit or a shelved might-have-been project. Bill Murray has also been pretty reluctant to go any further with the project, especially now that Ramis is out of the picture, but a recent idea from Columbia Pictures execs did manage to raise an eyebrow. The pitch is to put director Paul Feig at the helm of an all-female squad of paranormal butt-kickers for a totally new Ghostbusters film altogether, replacing a group of saggy, old men with a group of young, sexy Ladybusters! Murray was apparently really intrigued with that idea, and even provided some suggestions to the filmmakers, including Melissa McCarthy (Bridesmaids, Identity Thief), Emma Stone (SuperBad, Zombieland), Kristen Wiig (The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Her), and Linda Cardellini (Freaks and Geeks, Grandma’s Boy). Ironically enough McCarthy and Wiig have both done work with Feig in Bridesmaids, with McCarthy also collaborating with him on Identity Thief and The Heat. Although I wouldn’t personally put McCarthy in the “sexy-squad” category, her comedy genius would definitely be a key component of a female Ghostbusters movie, and from the looks of it Murray is pretty much guaranteed not to be involved, but we’ll see what happens with final casting if we ever do get a final script written.
