This weekend is looking like a glorious one for anyone in the Twin Cities. Not only will we celebrate the life of the late great Prince, Record Store Day festivities will also be plentiful across the metro. One of the more notable RSD events is Fifth Element/Rhymesayer’s annual sale at their headquarters in Uptown. This year they’ll be offering 20% of select vinyls and up to 50% off select CDs, they will also have a boat load of merch and used vinyl to dig through. If that wasn’t enough, there will also be live sets from DJ Keezy, Destiny Roberts, Nazeem & Spencer Joles, and DJ Just Nine. This event is free and open to all ages, make sure to come early if you’re serious about scoring some of the hotter deals.
With Record Store Day nearly upon us, Fifth Element recently announced their all day event. In addition to a ton of amazing deals, the store will be offering up to 50% off on CDs & LPs along with a few special J Dilla Deals. Throughout the day you’ll see performances from Greg Grease, Andrew Broder, Freez & Mike Frey, UpRock and Crescent Moon; we wouldn’t be surprised if a few special guests appear. If all of that wasn’t enough, World Street Kitchen’s food truck will be on site to provide the food. Good food, good music, good deals and it’s free, why wouldn’t you go?
Minneapolis spitter and Doomtree member Mike Mictlan will be holding an in-store signing/performance at Fifth Element today. Just ahead of his album release party, Mike’s definitely been on his grind as of late. With the Doomtree “blowouts” coming in December, the Fifth Element event will be the kick off of a good final 2 months for Mike & Doomtree. The event is all ages and FREE, come on down to Fifth Element for what should definitely be a good time.
Fifth Element will be holding their annual parking lot sale today at their headquarters. At the sale you’ll enjoy 50% select CDs and you can even snag shirts for $5-$10, not too shabby. While you’re browsing, there will be performances from Muja Messiah, Manny Phesto, Sean Anonymous & DJ Name, and Christopher Michael Jensen. If that wasn’t good enough, there will be DJs spinning all day and plenty of other sales. If you’re looking for something to fill out your Saturday, look no further.
Legendary host and hip hop guru, Sway; recently set up his Sway In The Morning radio show at Fifth Element resulting in some ill shit. You may have seen the Toki Wright x Greg Grease x Allan Kingdom interview/freestyle, now we bring you the mega cypher. Rhymesayers was definitely in the building offering up some of the city’s best MCs for this one. In order of appearance: Slug, P.O.S, Muja Messiah, Lioness, Metasota, Carnage, Joe Horton and MaLLy all dish out some nice bars off the top. In my opinion, Metasota, Lioness & Carnage shine the brightest, but that doesn’t take away from anyone else; they all did their thing.
Record Store Day seems to get bigger and bigger every year. As Rhymesayers’ home base, Fifth Element plans to host one hell of a Record Store Day function. With live performances from Lizzo, deM atlaS, ECID, CeeWhy & Guerilla Panic along with all day DJ sets, Fifth Element might be the only place to be come Record Store Day. In addition to the cool lineup, there will be a bunch of Fifth Element/Rhymesayers gear on sale along with special releases for RSD only. This should be a good time, if you don’t have anything going on; get down to Fifth Element.
