The new dramatic thriller from director Daniel Espinosa (Easy Money, Safe House), Child 44, is opening in theaters this Friday, April 17th. Featuring The Dark Knight Rises co-stars Tom Hardy (Inception, Lawless) and Oscar-nominee Gary Oldman (Leon: The Professional, The Fifth Element), Child 44 follows a military officer in Stalin-era Russia who becomes disgraced when he begins an investigation into a series of mysterious child murders while the state claims this sort of crime is said to be non-existent. The film comes from an adaptation of Tom Rob Smith‘s novel by screenwriter Richard Price (The Color of Money, Shaft), and also co-stars Noomi Rapace (Prometheus, The Drop), Joel Kinnaman (RoboCop, The Killing), and Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty, The Great Gatsby). Director Ridley Scott (Gladiator, Prometheus) produced the project with co-producers Greg Shapiro (Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle, The Hurt Locker) and Michael Schaefer (Now You See Me, Exodus: Gods And Kings). Warner Bros. is currently working on a film adaptation of Blood on the Snow, a novel by Jo Nesbo which follows a hitman who falls in love with his target and becomes involved in a life-or-death pickle of lust, loyalty, and greed. Leonardo DiCaprio is thus far attached to star in the film, and he will also help produce the project along with director Daniel Espinosa (Safe House). Now Warner needs to find a writer to do the adaptation before the project can really get underway. Espinosa’s latest film, Child 44, a Soviet-era thriller with Tom Hardy, is expected out in theaters later this year, while DiCaprio is also in the process of producing two other films, Home, and A Boy and His Tiger.
