Dr. Dre’s Long-Awaited Album ‘Compton: A Soundtrack’ Available Today

dre

In anticipation of the upcoming NWA biopic, Straight Outta Compton, original member Dr. Dre will be releasing his first studio album since 1999’s iconic album 2001. The new album is called Compton: A Soundtrack by Dr. Dre and will be Dre’s third studio release. Fans have been waiting for Dre’s next studio release ever since he announced a new album titled Detox would be forthcoming in 2002. Since then, however, the album’s release has been put on hold several times, owing to various outside projects, including developing his record label Aftermath Entertainment with artists like Eminem and 50 Cent, and his Beats by Dre series. However rumors persisted throughout the last decade about the album’s existence, fueled by artists like Snoop Dogg who claimed to have heard the project in its entirety. Then in 2010, Dre released the single ‘Kush’, and then another single the next year with Eminem titled ‘I Need A Doctor’, which the two performed together at the 2011 Grammy Awards. Then back in July, Dre announced that the original Detox conception had been scrapped for a new project inspired by the new movie Straight Outta Compton that would be released in August, and tomorrow that album will finally be available for fans! Dre has also announced that the artist royalties from the new project will be donated to the city of Compton to fund an art center for upcoming and aspiring artists in the area. So fans, rejoice! and check out the new album on Apple Music today. Straight Outta Compton opens in theaters August 14th.

Director Denis Villeneuve In Talks To Helm ‘Blade Runner 2’ With Harrison Ford

runner

Alcon Entertainment recently announced that director Denis Villeneuve (Prisoners, Enemy) is in talks to helm their upcoming project Blade Runner 2, with original Blade Runner screenwriter Hampton Fincher and new team-member Michael Green (Everwood, The Green Lantern) penning the script. Nothing as far as plot details have been confirmed, but the writers have hinted that the story will take place severals decades following the original story, which makes sense seeing as Harrison Ford (Star Wars, The Fugitive) has agreed to reprise his role of Rick Deckard. This all means that original Blade Runner director Ridley Scott (Gladiator, Exodus: Gods and Kings) will not be working behind the camera on this new film, but will still serve as producer. The film is scheduled to begin filming in summer 2016. If you haven’t seen the original Blade Runner, you can check it out in two formats: the original theatrical release, and/or Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner: The Director’s Cut, the latter of which is geared more towards Scott’s original intent for the film. Stay tuned for further updates.

Early Draft Of Next Bond Installment ‘S.P.E.C.T.R.E.’ Leaked In Sony Pictures Hack

Bond

Earlier in the month we found out that private files, including film scripts, reels, and documents including emails between company employees and executives, were stolen from Sony Pictures by a group of computer hackers that call themselves the Guardians of Peace. The group has threatened to “ruin” the company if their upcoming James Franco and Seth Rogen comedy, The Interview, is not pulled from release this coming Christmas Day. The G.O.P. has already released a number of documents including emails between executives at the company covering everything from upcoming movie plans, celebrity secrets, medical records, racial slurs, and unbalanced pay between actors and their female counterparts. Sony discovered Monday that an early version of the screenplay for their next James Bond installment with Eon Productions Ltd., S.P.E.C.T.R.E., was among the material stolen and leaked in the cyberattack, and they were quick to give the public a friendly warning about copyright infringement. This statement was posted on the James Bond website Saturday, December 13th, by Eon Productions Ltd:

EON PRODUCTIONS, the producers of the James Bond films, learned this morning that an early version of the screenplay for the new Bond film SPECTRE is amongst the material stolen and illegally made public by hackers who infiltrated the Sony Pictures Entertainment computer system. Eon Productions is concerned that third parties who have received the stolen screenplay may seek to publish it or its contents. The screenplay for SPECTRE is the confidential information of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios and Danjaq, LLC, and is protected by the laws of copyright in the United Kingdom and around the world. It may not (in whole or in part) be published, reproduced, disseminated or otherwise utilised by anyone who obtains a copy of it. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios and Danjaq LLC will take all necessary steps to protect their rights against the persons who stole the screenplay, and against anyone who makes infringing uses of it or attempts to take commercial advantage of confidential property it knows to be stolen.”

Pretty serious shit. Principle photography for the new movie began on December 8th with Daniel Craig returning as Bond, and the movie is scheduled for theatrical release this November 6, 2015. We’ll keep you updated on anymore leaked information.

Comic Movie Updates: Michelle MacLaren And Oscar Isaac

oscar

There is so much news these days regarding upcoming comic-movie projects that it’s getting hard to keeps facts and rumors straight, but this seems pretty much certain. Michelle MacLaren has agreed to direct the independent Wonder Woman project for Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment, with Zack Snyder (300, Man of Steel) producing. The character will initially appear in Snyder’s upcoming Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, and then MacLaren’s film will be an independent character project. I am assuming that Gal Gadot will carry the role over from Batman Vs. Superman, but we’ll have to wait and see about that. Another bit of recent news that also seems pretty set in stone (coming from Variety) is that Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Inside Llewyn Davis) has been cast by Twentieth Century Fox to play the title villain in the upcoming X-Men installment Apocalypse. This one is scheduled to hit theaters in May 2016, and will also bring the characters Cyclops and Jean Grey back to the big screen as the film is expected to take place in the 1980s.

ted

Seth MacFarlane is currently in Boston filming his upcoming comedy sequel Ted 2, but news of some new cast members has just recently hit the Hollywood web-scene. Following their collaboration on A Million Ways To Die In The West last year, MacFarlane has confirmed that actor Liam Neeson will be playing a small part in the movie, joining actors Mark Wahlberg, Amanda Seyfried, and Morgan Freeman. Entertainment Weekly also reported recently that John Slattery of AMC’s Mad Men will also be making an appearance in the film. Although there is no official word on the plot, Morgan Freeman has stated that he will appear as Ted’s civil rights lawyer who helps him out with some legal troubles, but thus far that’s really all we’ve heard. The movie is scheduled to hit theaters next June, so stay tuned for more news!

Don Cheadle To Begin Production On Miles Davis Biopic ‘Miles Ahead’ This Week

cheadle

A few weeks ago we informed you that an IndieGogo campaign had been launched to raise money for a new biopic on iconic jazz musician Miles Davis with actor Don Cheadle. The goal was to raise $90,000 in just a month for the production to begin in July, and with the cut-off date quickly approaching production will now be moving forward in Cincinnati, Ohio. Cheadle recently did an interview with Entertainment Weekly about the film, which will focus on the period of Davis’ career around the release of his 1969 rock-jazz album In A Silent Way. Ewan McGregor, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Emayatzy Corinealdi are also set to take roles in the film, which has been in development now for the better part of a decade. You can see a picture of Cheadle in full costume as Davis above. If all goes as planned we could see the film hit theaters as early as 2015, so keep your eyes open for more news on this one.

Summit Entertainment Getting Behind Ken Jeong Comedy ‘International Incident’

ken

Summit Entertainment recently picked up a script from The Daily Show with John Stewart writer David Javerbaum entitled International Incident. The film apparently already has The Hangover star Ken Jeong set to take the lead role in the script, which follows five U.N. delegates who go on a whacky road trip adventure to find one of their members’ lost loves. This would be the first time Jeong will be the lead star in a feature film. His characters in The Hangover and Community have definitely improved these titles, but never featured him as the key element of the story, which this picture is apparently going to do. Steve Carell is also being courted to produce the movie under his company Carousel Productions, but it doesn’t look like he’ll be making an appearance at the moment. A release date for the project has not been released at this time.
