In anticipation of the upcoming NWA biopic, Straight Outta Compton, original member Dr. Dre will be releasing his first studio album since 1999’s iconic album 2001. The new album is called Compton: A Soundtrack by Dr. Dre and will be Dre’s third studio release. Fans have been waiting for Dre’s next studio release ever since he announced a new album titled Detox would be forthcoming in 2002. Since then, however, the album’s release has been put on hold several times, owing to various outside projects, including developing his record label Aftermath Entertainment with artists like Eminem and 50 Cent, and his Beats by Dre series. However rumors persisted throughout the last decade about the album’s existence, fueled by artists like Snoop Dogg who claimed to have heard the project in its entirety. Then in 2010, Dre released the single ‘Kush’, and then another single the next year with Eminem titled ‘I Need A Doctor’, which the two performed together at the 2011 Grammy Awards. Then back in July, Dre announced that the original Detox conception had been scrapped for a new project inspired by the new movie Straight Outta Compton that would be released in August, and tomorrow that album will finally be available for fans! Dre has also announced that the artist royalties from the new project will be donated to the city of Compton to fund an art center for upcoming and aspiring artists in the area. So fans, rejoice! and check out the new album on Apple Music today. Straight Outta Compton opens in theaters August 14th.
With their biographical film Straight Outta Compton opening in theaters this August 14th, the iconic rap group N.W.A. is looking to their next project, and with the anticipation of the movie, fans have been hoping for a potential reunion concert or even a tour. Well now it seems that a tour is definitely being planned, at least a European tour (sorry America!), according to chairperson Donna Langley at Universal Studios, who is releasing the film. The tour would include original members Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, and DJ Yella, as well as honorary rapper Eminem, who will presumably serve in place of Eazy-E, who died in 1995. No tour official tour dates or locations have been announced, but we’ll keep an eye out for additional news. The trailer for Straight Outta Compton is available here on MADE. Stay tuned!
Eminem has released the cover art for his upcoming album “Marshall Mathers LP 2” and it’s pretty dope. Taking a page from the original MMLP, Em’s cover is clearly reminiscent of better days; hopefully his album will live up to the name.
Earl Sweatshirt and Tyler the Creator have been killing their European tour. Coming off of a dope performance in Glasgow, the kids at Odd Future flew into Paris only to be notified that they’d be playing the sold out “Stade de France” arena. Joined by Kendrick Lamar & Eminem, the EARLWOLF tour looks like it’s been a ton of fun; check out the video above and stay tuned for more as the tour continues.
Raised by Minneapolis it sometimes slips my mind that i was actually born underneath the grey skies of Detroit, Michigan. One thing the D has always had going for itself is it’s music scene, whether it be for MoTown of yesterday or Big Sean of today someone always seems to be making noise. Legendary Detroit MC Eminem announced that he will be releasing his next project entitled “MMLP2” on November 5th, the production should be absolutely nuts as Rick Rubin & Dr. Dre have been summoned. The streets are buzzing with anticipation because we all know what the original MMLP (Marshall Mathers LP) was like, it’s just a matter of whether Eminem can deliver another Hip Hop classic.
