Will Disney’s Bid For Fox Properties Mean Another Monopoly For The Cable Industry?

Walt Disney Pictures has come a long way from making full-length animated features like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Cinderella, and Peter Pan. In the 21st century, the company has reinvented itself with live-action blockbusters like Pirates of the Caribbean, state-of-the-art computer animated films like Cars and Frozen, and adaptations of children’s literary classics like Roald Dahl’s The BFG and Madeleine L’Engle’s A Wrinkle in Time (out in theaters this March). In recent years, Disney has expanded into more lucrative markets like comic book blockbusters (ie. Marvel comics) and, of course, the Star Wars franchise. The latest Star Wars entry, The Last Jedi, hit the $1 billion mark in worldwide box office sales barely three weeks after its US theatrical release. With a plethora of material to work with, and plenty of money coming in, one would think Disney is far passed its tipping point, but that might not be the case at all. Continue reading

New Sequels For ‘The Hobbit’ And ‘Night At The Museum’ Opening December 19th


This December 19th will see the final installment of Peter Jackson‘s The Hobbit series open in theaters, this one subtitled The Battle of the Five Armies. Following the conclusion of author J.R.R. Tolkein‘s book, Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) and the wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen) come to an epic battle between the Dwarfs and the dragon Smaug. Actors Evangeline Lilly, Cate Blanchett, Orlando Bloom, Hugo Weaving, Christopher Lee, and Richard Armitage also appear in the film. Also opening on December 19th is the final installment of the Night At The Museum film series, this time subtitled Secret of the Tomb. Ben Stiller, Robin Williams, and Owen Wilson all return for the movie in their respective roles as Larry (the security guard), President Theodore (Teddy) Roosevelt, and outdoorsman, hunter, and trader Jedediah Smith. Jamie Foxx and Quvenzhane Wallis will also appear in the modern-update of Annie on the 19th, so mark your calenders and go check out this year’s Holiday movie line-up for yourself!
