Studios Lining Up Opposing Agatha Christie Biopics with Emma Stone and Alicia Vikander

agatha
Murder-mystery novelist Agatha Christie.

Same-subject movies coming out at the same time aren’t necessarily unheard of; Deep Impact and Armageddon (May and July, 1998), Dante’s Peak and Volcano (February and April 1997), Mission to Mars and Red Planet (March and November 2000), The Illusionist and The Prestige (August and October 2006). Now a new pair of movies will be joining the list, focused around the life of famous murder-mystery author Agatha Christie. Paramount has signed Oscar-nominee Emma Stone (The Amazing Spider-Man, Birdman or the Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) to star as Christie during her 11 day disappearance in 1926. Sony, however, has signed Oscar-winner Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina, The Danish Girl) to star in Sony’s production, which focuses on the author’s youthful days as a pro-feminist supporter. Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill Hitting Theaters Again This Summer With ’22 Jump Street’

22

Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill will be back in theaters this summer as the undercover cop-duo Jenko and Schmidt in the sequel to 2012’s 21 Jump Street, appropriately titled 22 Jump Street. The movie is once again being directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and the script was written by Michael Bacall (who wrote the screenplay for the first film) and Oren Uziel. The first film was an action-comedy adventure that followed two young cops who are assigned to the precinct at 21, Jump Street and are sent undercover to a high school in order to bust up a narcotics ring. The movie is based on the late 80’s TV hit 21 Jump Street, which starred Johnny Depp and Dustin Nguyen as cops working out of the same precinct. The film adaptation also featured Dave Franco, Ice Cube, and Nick Offerman, who will all reprise their roles for the sequel. The movie is scheduled for release on June 13.
