In light of the untimely death of Carrie Fisher, movie-makers at Disney and Lucasfilm are beginning to look to Princess Leia’s future. Although Fisher has reportedly finished filming all of her scenes for the upcoming Episode VIII release this December, Leia was expected to play a much more significant part in Episode IX, which is slated for a December 2019 release. The over-arching storyline for the upcoming films included a reunion between Leia and Luke Skywalker, as well as a confrontation between Leia and Kylo Ren, who killed his father, Harrison Ford‘s Han Solo, in Episode VII: The Force Awakens. Now with Fisher gone, the fate of the character has yet to be fully realized. Continue reading →
M.L. Stedman‘s tale of love and loss comes to life on the big screen this week with director Derek Cianfrance‘s The Light Between Oceans. A new trailer has just been released for an upcoming drama from writer/director Derek Cianfrance (Blue Valentine, The Place Beyond the Pines) called The Light Between Oceans, based on the bestselling novel by M.L. Stedman. Critically-acclaimed actors Michael Fassbender (12 Years A Slave, Macbeth), Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina, The Danish Girl), and Rachel Weisz (The Foundtain, The Bourne Legacy) lead the cast in the story about a lighthouse keeper and his wife living on the coast of Western Australia who rescue a baby adrift in a rowboat, and raise the child as their own. As the years pass, however, the keeper comes to discover the child’s real mother, and an emotional conflict ensues. The film is so far scheduled to be hit theaters on September 2nd. Check out the trailer here on MADE. Enjoy!
Acclaimed director Ava Duvernay (The Middle of Nowhere, Selma) has just been hired by Disney Motion Pictures to helm a new adaptation of Madeleine L’Engle’s 1963 Newbery Medal-winning novel, A Wrinkle In Time. The book will be adapted by Oscar-winning screenwriter Jennifer Lee (Frozen, Zootopia). Chances are you read this one in elementary school, about a young girl who travels to a 5th dimension in order to find her scientist father, who disappeared while working on a mysterious government project called a tesseract. The film is still very early in production, and DuVernay also has another script on her plate from DreamWorks and screenwriters Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly (Safety Not Guaranteed, Jurassic World) titled Intelligent Life. This one is about a UN worker in a department dedicated to representing humanity in the event of contact with alien life, who falls for a woman who turns out to be a real alien. No word yet as to which film will end up being made first, but both definitely sound pretty interesting, although A Wrinkle In Time is definitely long overdue for a quality film adaptation. Either way, we’ll let you know about upcoming schedule announcements.
This Valentine’s Day weekend will see plenty of big screen features released for you and your date to go and see for your big date night outings. First up is the new comic-book adaptation for Deadpool with Ryan Reynolds (Safe House, Self/Less) and Morena Baccarin (Heartland, Spy), which, considering it’s an R-rated comic adaptation, has many fans waiting in high anticipation for last night’s midnight showing. The second up is the long awaited comedy sequel Zoolander 2, featuring Ben Stiller (Dodgeball, Meet the Parents), Owen Wilson (Old School, Wedding Crashers), Penelope Cruz (Blow, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides), Kristen Wiig (Bridesmaids, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty), Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game, Black Mass), and Will Ferrell (Superstar, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy). This time out, supermodels Derek and Hansel must join forces once again to stop an opposing company lead by longtime rival Mugatu (Ferrell) from putting them out of business. Ben Stiller got behind the director’s chair for the new film, and also co-wrote the movie with screenwriters Justin Theroux (Tropic Thunder, Iron Man 2), Nicholas Stoller (Fun With Dick and Jane, The Five-Year Engagement), and John Hamburg (Along Came Polly, I Love You Man). The trailer is available here on MADE. Enjoy your Valentine’s Day weekend!
Reactions by fans to the news that there would be a second Zoolander was pretty mixed, although it didn’t necessarily come with any real surprise considering Hollywood insists on banking on 20-year-old franchises these days. Nevertheless the rumors were true and production has been underway for sometime now, with the upcoming release for Zoolander 2 scheduled for February 12, 2016. Ben Stiller (Meet the Parents, Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story) and Owen Wilson (Wedding Crashers, Midnight in Paris) are reprising their roles as fashion models Derek and Hansel, whose careers are now threatened by a new company attempting to put them out of business. Ben Stiller is once again behind the director’s chair, working from a script by himself and original Zoolander screenwriter John Hamburg (Along Came Polly, I Love You Man), along with Justin Theroux (Tropic Thunder, Iron Man 2) and Nicholas Stoller (Yes Man, Get Him To The Greek). Yesterday Universal pictures announced that a sequel to their latest record-breaking hit Jurassic World is being planned for release on June 22nd, 2018. The new film will once again have original Jurassic Park director Steven Spielberg back as an executive producer, serving alongside World executive producer and director Colin Trevorrow (Reality Show, Safety Not Guaranteed). Trevorrow will also come back to write the new script with Jurassic World writer Derek Connolly (Safety Not Guaranteed, Monster Trucks), but there is no confirmed word on whether or not he will be directing again. Actors Chris Pratt (Parks & Recreation, Guardians of the Galaxy) and Bryce Dallas Howard (Lady in the Water, The Help) will be back for the new film, but no other actors from World have thus far been confirmed to be coming back. Stay tuned for more news!
After months and months of anticipation for the long-awaited sequel to Steven Spielberg‘s 1993 classic, Jurassic World is finally opening in theaters this Friday, June 12th. Directed by Colin Trevorrow (Reality Show, Safety Not Guaranteed) from a script by himself and fellow screenwriters Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (The Relic, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) and Derek Connolly (Safety Not Guaranteed, Monster Trucks), the film picks up on Isla Nublar 22 years after the disaster of the original movie with a new fully-functioning park that after 10 years of successful operation is losing visitors and whose directors decide to put a new attraction in-place to draw more crowds with horrific and “unforseen” consequences. Starring in the film are actors Chris Pratt (Parks & Recreation, Guardians of the Galaxy), Bryce Dallas Howard (The Help, 50/50), Ty Simpkins (Insidious, Iron Man 3), Nick Robinson (Melissa & Joey, The Kings of Summer), Jake Johnson (21 Jump Street, Let’s Be Cops), Omar Sy (X-Men: Days of Future Past, Mood Indigo), and DB Wong (Executive Decision, Jurassic Park). While the special effects look pretty interesting, after having seen the latest TV-spot with Chris Pratt, the story is at risk of being extremely weak, not at all living up to the standards of the original, but I won’t jump to judge it before seeing it. You can see the full length trailer again here on MADE, then catch it on the big screen June 12th.
With May being only a few days away, the June 15th release date for director Colin Trevorrow‘s upcoming dinosaur-thriller Jurassic World is also just around the corner. This new film takes place 22 years after the original Jurassic Park events, with a fully-functioning theme park operating on Isla Nublar in which tourists come to see the dinosaur inhabitants John Hammond (the late David Attenborough) originally envisioned for the island. Screenwriters Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) penned the story and wrote the script with director Trevorrow (Reality Show, Making Revolution) and his Safety Not Guaranteed co-writer Derek Connolly. Leading the cast are actors Chris Pratt (Parks & Recreation, Guardians of the Galaxy) and Golden Globe nominee Bryce Dallas Howard (50/50, The Help), plus Ty Simpkins (Insidious, Iron Man 3), Jake Johnson (New Girl, Let’s Be Cops), Nick Robinson (Boardwalk Empire, The Kings of Summer), Irrfan Khan (Life of Pi, The Amazing Spider-Man), Omar Sy (X-Men: Days of Future Past, Samba), Vincent D’Onofrio (Full Metal Jacket, The Judge) and DB Wong (Men of War, Executive Decision), who is returning to portray Henry Wu from the original Jurassic Park. June 15th is coming up soon, so be sure to mark your calendars!
