Recent Changes In Film Release Date Schedules

The film industry is always coping with conflicting schedules and merging franchises that are controlled by separate production companies. That being said, release dates for films that are currently in production should always be taken with a grain of salt. Dates are bound to change, new productions of higher profitability, and even seasons of the year all play big roles in determining when a film actually hits theaters.Shanghai, for example, is just now being released in the United States, even though it was filmed and released overseas close to five years ago. Regardless of what factors play into it, here are some updates to some film release schedules you might want to be aware of.

1. Warner Bros. has just announced that Christopher Nolan‘s next directorial project (his first since Interstellar was released back in December 2014) has been give a release date for July 21, 2017. No details have yet been made on the plot or who will star in the film, but it’s good to know the Inception and Dark Knight series director is getting back to work.

2. Oliver Stone‘s upcoming biopic on former NSA-employee turned traitor Edward Snowden, appropriately titled Snowden, has been pushed back from a Christmas release to an unspecified release date in 2016. We’ll keep an eye out for an exact date.

3. The new Western (yes, there is another one coming out!) with Oscar-winner Natalie Portman (Leon: The Professional, Black Swan) titled Jane Got A Gun, which was also expected in theaters sometime this Holiday season, has also been pushed back for a February 2016 release date. The script for this project has already been delayed while the script was re-written, but with any luck the new date should be the last delay for director Gavin O’Connor (Miracle, Warrior).

Goldstein (Horrible Bosses, The Incredible Burt Wonderstone), and follows Rusty Griswold (portrayed in the original by Anthony Michael Hall) and his wife Debbie on a new family vacation enroute to Walley World. Starring in the film are actors Ed Helms (The Hangover, We’re The Millers), Christina Applegate (Anchorman, Hall Pass), Regina Hall (Law Abiding Citizen, Think Like A Man), Nick Kroll (I Love You Man, Date Night), Charlie Day (It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, The Lego Movie), and Leslie Mann (Funny People, This Is 40) and Chris Hemsworth (Thor, The Avengers) as Audrey Griswold and her husband Stone Crandall. Writer/Director Mike Binder’s ‘Black Or White’ Now Playing In Theaters

Writer/director Mike Binder (The Upside of Anger, Reign Over Me) has a new project in theaters this week titled Black or White with Academy Award winners Kevin Kostner (The Untouchables, Dances With Wolves) and Octavia Spencer (The Help, Fruitvale Station). The film follows a grandfather who receives custody of his granddaughter and ensues in a custody battle with her paternal grandmother (Spencer) and her father after her mother dies. What follows is an interesting look of culture-clash and understanding as the two families come to work together in their child’s best interest. Also making up the supporting cast are actors Jillian Estell (Chase, So This Is Christmas), Bill Burr (Date Night, The Heat), Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker, Gangster Squad), and Gillian Jacobs (Walk of Shame, Community). Check out the trailer here on MADE.
