The two will share writing credits with screenwriter Christopher Rouse (The Italian Job, Greenzone), who has also worked on The Bourne Supremacy (2004) and The Bourne Ultimatum (2007). Oscar Winner Steven Soderbergh Returning To Feature Films For New Channing Tatum Project?

soderbergh-tatum

Oscar-winning director Steven Soderbergh (Erin Brockovich, Ocean’s Eleven) surprised everyone when he announced that he would be stepping away from big-screen features after 2013’s Side Effects. Recent news, however, has him coming out of retirement after spending the last few years on his work in television, like HBO’s Behind the Candelabra. Soderbergh will supposedly come back to direct his long-time friend and collaborator Channing Tatum (Magic Mike, 21 Jump Street) in a new film called Lucky Logan. No information is yet available regarding the script, and Tatum is the only confirmed cast member, although Matt Damon (The Bourne Supremacy, The Martian) was initially rumored to be starring in Tatum’s role. With a script, lead actor, and director already in place, pre-production should get underway fairly quickly, but we’ll keep you updated on further announcements.

Fresh off its last festival stop at the Toronto International Film Festival, the latest blockbuster from Oscar-winner Ridley Scott (Gladiator, Prometheus), The Martian, is now playing in theaters across the country. Based on the book by author Andy Weir, the film features an all-star cast led by Matt Damon (The Bourne Identity, The Departed), including Jessica Chastain (Interstellar, A Most Violent Year), Kristen Wiig (Bridesmaids, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty), Jeff Daniels (Speed, The Newsroom), Michael Pena (End of Watch, Fury), Sean Bean (The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, Game of Thrones), Kate Mara (House of Cards, Captive), and Chiwetel Ejiofor (Children of Men, 12 Years A Slave). Screenwriter Drew Goddard (Cloverfield, World War Z) adapted the script from Weir’s book about an astronaut who becomes stranded on Mars and must survive against all odds in order to return to his family on Earth. ‘Trumbo’, ‘The Martian’, and ‘Black Mass’ Will Appear At This Fall’s Toronto International Film Festival

Every year the Toronto International Film Festival serves as one of the major international film festivals that close out the fiscal year, and this year’s festival is sure to feature an excellent celebration of Oscar-worthy filmmaking. Toronto’s film festival is usually filled with entries seen earlier in the year at festivals like Sundance and Cannes, but it also brings its own special line-up to its audience. This year several highly anticipated films will have the honor of being shown during the festivities, most notably the Whitey Bulger biopic Black Mass with Johnny Depp, Matt Damon‘s next space adventure following Interstellar titled The Martian, and one I personally am really excited to see, another biopic called Trumbo with Emmy-winner Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad, Godzilla) in the title role of McCarthy-era screenwriter Dalton Trumbo, whose film credits were published under various pseudonyms over the years after he was blacklisted during Senator McCarthy’s famous Communist-trials in the 1950s. The festival will play host to several other biographically oriented films as well, especially centering on figures in the music industry, including a Janis Joplin documentary titled Janis: Little Girl Blue, another documentary chronicling Aretha Franklin‘s famous 1972 album Amazing Grace, and Miss Sharon Jones, which follows the soul-singer during a time in her life when she was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer just before the release of a new album and pending tour. I Saw The Light is another music-biopic following the life of Hank Williams (Sr.) which also looks to be pretty promising. Some other notable names that caught our eye include Spotlight (which we’ve been following for some time now), following the Boston Globe reporters that uncovered the sex-scandal in the Catholic Church involving priests and young male students in 2004, and Beasts of No Nation, which will actually see only a temporary theatrical run as it will be available on Netflix shortly thereafter. Some other big highlights that I would recommend include The Lobster with Colin Farrell, Rachel Weisz, and John C. Reilly, Legend, starring Tom Hardy as gangster identical-twin brothers in 1950s England, and Kill Your Friends starring Nicholas Hoult as a London A&R executive trying to rise to the top of the 1990s British pop-music scene. All of these are sure to be great entries, but there are, of course, many more that I have not had time to mention here. A full list of this year’s entries can be found at the link below, and if you find yourself in Toronto anytime this September 10th-20th, be sure to check out a couple of these entries…you won’t regret it!!!

jones

Oscar-winner Tommy Lee Jones will be joining Matt Damon in the upcoming fifth installment in the ‘Jason Bourne’ series, thus far only titled Bourne 5. Captain Phillips and Bourne Ultimatum director Paul Greengrass will be returning to helm the project, which will also star series veteran Julia Stiles (The Bourne Supremacy, Silver Linings Playbook), Viggo Mortensen (The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, Hidalgo), and Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina, The Man from U.N.C.L.E.). Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass will be writing the film along with returning Bourne screenwriter Christopher Rouse (The Italian Job, The Bourne Ultimatum), but no details regarding the plot are known at this time. Producer Frank Marshall (Indiana Jones-Raiders of the Lost Ark, Back to the Future) will produce with Jeffery Weiner under Captivate Entertainment. Stay tuned for more news!

News Of Casting For Upcoming ‘Bourne 5’ With Veteran Actor Matt Damon

Director Paul Greengrass (left) collaborating with Matt Damon (right).

Matt Damon (Good Will Hunting, The Departed) stole the screen as Jason Bourne in the fast-paced spy series from author Robert Ludlum that began with The Bourne Identity in 2002 and ended (for Damon) with The Bourne Ultimatum in 2007. After that Jeremy Renner (The Avengers, American Hustle) stepped in to portray a new character in the Bourne-universe for director Tony Gilroy in The Bourne Legacy, which received mixed reviews from both critics and fans. But now Damon and Bourne Ultimatum director Paul Greengrass (United 93, Captain Phillips) are both returning to the series for a fifth installment, thus far only known as Bourne 5. Julia Stiles (The Omen, Silver Linings Playbook) will also be returning for the new movie, joining new-comers Alicia Vikander (The Fifth Estate, Ex Machina) and Viggo Mortensen (The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, A History of Violence) as the new villain. Details for the new story are not yet available, and further casting news is likely still forthcoming, so we’ll keep you posted with further updates.

New Trailer For ‘The Martian’ With Matt Damon Now Available

We’ve been hearing little bits and pieces of Matt Damon‘s upcoming project The Martian for some time now, and finally after months of waiting we have a new trailer!! The Departed and Bourne-series actor will be leading an all-star cast that includes Jessica Chastain (Lawless, A Most Violent Year), Kate Mara (Iron Man 2, Transcendence), Kristen Wiig (Bridesmaids, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty), Sean Bean (The Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones), Jeff Daniels (Dumb and Dumber, Speed), and Chiwetel Ejiofor (American Gangster, 12 Years A Slave) in the story about an astronaut who is left for dead on Mars by his crew and must find a way to survive and make Earth aware of his survival. This will be Damon’s second outing as an astronaut following his smaller role in Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar last year (which co-star Jessica Chastain also starred). Oscar-winner Ridley Scott (Gladiator, Prometheus) directed the project from an adaptation of author Amy Weir’s novel by screenwriter Drew Goddard (Lost, World War Z). On a personal note, both Lost and World War Z sucked hardcore in terms of everything, so having Mr. Goddard’s name attached to this film doesn’t really give me high hopes for the story, but considering Ridley Scott is behind the camera, we may still have a movie that’s worth going to see. The trailer is now available here on MADE. Look for the movie in theaters this November 25th.

Disney’s ‘Tomorrowland’ With George Clooney Opening May 29th

This May will see George Clooney (Good Night and Good Luck, The Ides of March) return to the big screen in a more family oriented drama from Walt Disney Pictures. Titled Tomorrowland, the film follows Frank Walker (Clooney), who sets out with fugitive Casey to find a futuristic city that exists only in their memories, where anything and everything imaginable is possible. The film comes from writer/director Brad Bird (The Incredibles, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol) working from a script by himself and screenwriters Damon Lindelof (Prometheus, Star Trek: Into Darkness) and Jeff Jensen. Starring in the film are actors Britt Robertson (Scream 4, The Longest Ride), Kathryn Hahn (We’re The Millers, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty), Judy Greer (Love & Other Drugs, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), Hugh Laurie (House M.D., Street Kings), and Keegan-Michael Key (Due Date, Let’s Be Cops). Check out the trailer here on MADE, and if you’re a fan of Clooney’s or of Walt Disney movies, go out and see it May 29th!
