Harry Dean Stanton Gives His Last Great Performance In New Drama ‘Lucky’

Harry Dean Stanton, the legendary character-actor who’s appeared in countless Hollywood productions, passed away on September 15th at the age of 91. Stanton got his start taking small roles in television productions like Bonanza, Rawhide, The Fugitive, and Gunsmoke in the 1950s and ’60s. He has since appeared in more than 100 films, including Cool Hand Luke, Kelly’s Heros, The Godfather Part II, Alien, Escape From New York, Repo Man, Pretty in Pink, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and The Green Mile. Now fans will have one more chance to see him in his first (and last) leading role since 1984’s Paris, Texas in what should prove to be a touching tribute.

Lucky is a drama from actor-turned-director John Carrol Lynch (Gran Torino, The Founder) that follows Lucky, a chain-smoking atheist and World War II veteran who must come to grips with his own mortality. The script comes from screenwriters Logan Sparks and Drago Sumonja, and reunites Stanton with Twin Peaks creator David Lynch. Also appearing in the film are actors Ron Livingston (Office Space, Band of Brothers), Tom Skerritt (Top Gun, Steel Magnolias), James Darren (Gidget, The Guns of Navarone), and Yvonne Huff. Check your local listings for showings in your area, and if you’re not in the mood for killer clowns or Tom Cruise, make this one your go-to for the weekend. And of course, rest in peace Mr. Stanton!

‘Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse’ Opening In Theaters Today

Happy Halloween! This October has already seen a new addition to the Paranormal Activity series (The Ghost Dimension), the return of AMC’s The Walking Dead and its spinoff series Fear The Walking Dead, and the comeback of R.L. Stine’s classic scary-tale series Goosebumps with Jack Black (Shallow Hal, School of Rock) at the helm. This week, and just in time for Halloween weekend, we get another Zombified movie experience from director Christopher Landon (Paranormal Activity, Burning Palms) in the form of Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse. Bringing back the fun-zombie feel of Zombieland (2009), this one follows three scouts who must use their experiences to ban together and save their hometown from a zombie outbreak. Actors Tye Sheridan (The Tree of Life, Mud), Logan Miller (I’m In The Band, +1), and newcomer Joey Morgan star in the lead roles, with Sarah Dumont (Don Jon, Playing It Cool), David Koechner (Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby), and Cloris Leachman (Young Frankenstein, Beerfest) in the supporting cast. Director Landon co-wrote the screenplay with Lona Williams (Drop Dead Gorgeous, Shark Tale), Carrie Lee Wilson (Teamo Supremo, College Road Trip), and Emi Mochizuki (College Road Trip). Also still playing in theaters for your Halloween needs are Goosebumps and Crimson Peak. Enjoy the Halloween weekend, and be safe!

New Documentary ‘Best Of Enemies’ Opening In Theaters July 31st

This weekend you can see a new documentary from award-winning documentarians Robert Gordon (The Blues, Johnny Cash’s America) and Morgan Neville (The Cool School, Twenty Feet From Stardom) titled Best of Enemies. The film chronicles a series of debates held between liberal thinker Gore Vidal and conservative William F. Buckley Jr. in 1968. Intended to be a public commentary on the political and social issues of the day, the two ended up unintentionally changing modern media format from informed delivery of fact to exaggeration and speculation. Providing interviews for the film are the debaters, themselves, as well as Kelsey Grammer (X-Men: The Last Stand, Boss), John Lithgow (Shrek, Interstellar), Dick Cavett (The Dick Cavett Show, Forrest Gump), Noam Chomsky (The Oil Factor: Behind the War on Terror, The U.S. Vs. John Lennon), and Matt Tyrnauer (Valentino: The Last Emperor). The film received a nomination at the Sundance Film Festival for the Grand Jury Prize and also earned high remarks at this year’s Montclair Film Festival. Watch the trailer here on MADE, the film will be open on big screens Friday, July 31st.

Lorn – Acid Rain

If you still haven’t heard of the Milwaukee producer Lorn, WAKE UP. Lorn has been around for some years now, and in our opinion some of his best work is now surfacing. With newly released visuals to “Acid Rain” off of The Maze to Nowhere Part 2 – Lorn blends vocals beautifully into this dark and ominous  beat. The unique artist continues to provide some fresh music that sets himself apart from any other artist out there. Also, if you recognize the visuals, make sure to check out Beyond the Black Rainbow on Netflix
