Seth Rogen, Rose Byrne, And Zac Efron Returning For ‘Neighbors 2’ Summer 2016

Universal Pictures has announced that a sequel to their worldwide box-office hit Neighbors has been given a green-light and has been set for release on May 13th, 2016. The sequel will bring back original cast members Seth Rogen (Knocked Up, The Interview), Rose Byrne (X-Men:First Class, Get Him To The Greek), and Zac Efron (Parkland, That Awkward Moment), as well as director Nicholas Stoller (Forgetting Sarah Marshall, The Five-Year Engagement) and original writers Andrew Jay Cohen and Brendan O’Brien, who thus far will only serve as executive producers. The project is still early in production, and a script or even a screenwriter has yet to be found, but I’m sure many would just as soon not see a sequel made at all. Given the context and originality of the first film it’s going to be difficult to come up with a sequel that’s actually worth making, but if Universal thinks they can rake in another $250 million by making a sequel, then that’s exactly what they’ll do. Stay tuned.

Sacha Baron Cohen Joins Alice In Wonderland Sequel

cohen

It’s been a few years now since Tim Burton re-imagined Lewis Carroll’s classic tale Alice in Wonderland for the big screen, with Johnny Depp in the role of the Mad Hatter. Walt Disney Pictures has since been working on a sequel to Alice, which grossed over a billion dollars worldwide and brought Carroll’s surreal world to the big screen in 3D and IMAX. Screenwriter Linda Woolverton is currently working a script for Alice 2, with Johnny Depp and Mia Wasikowska both reprising their roles, but without Tim Burton directing the project. Instead, Muppets director James Bobin will be taking over for Burton, and Sacha Baron Cohen may be joining Depp and Wasikowska for the new movie. Cohen was last seen in Tom Hooper’s Les Miserables in 2012 and is presently working on several projects, including the action-comedy Grimsby (expected to go into production by the end of the year) and The Lesbian with Paramount Pictures. Depp is also signed on with Disney for a fifth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, and is currently filming Transcendence with director/cinematographer Wally Pfister. The new Alice project will be titled Through the Looking Glass (based on the book by Carroll) and is expected to be released in May 2016.

Patrick Swayze Remake In The Works With XXX and Fast & Furious Director

pat

Patrick Swayze was one of the premiere action stars of the 1980s, and also a regular appearance in romance movies like Ghost (1990) and Dirty Dancing (1987). The action side of his career include movies like Red Dawn (1984) and Point Break</em (1991), and another classic that’s about to be remade with director Rob Cohen (The Fast and the Furious, XXX), Road House (1989). Though the original film seems still relatively recent, the story of a tough bar bouncer in Missouri who gets mixed up with some suspect characters is getting a full-fledged remake with Joel Silver in the producer’s chair. There is no word yet as to who will reprise Swayze’s role in the original, but casting has yet to take place, so we’ll watch out for further details.
