Chicago’s hip hop scene might have taken a few hits due to artist relocation, but there are still quite a few talented musicians in the city. One of those artists is Closed Sessions MC Alex Wiley, if you’re familiar with Chicago’s music scene at all you’ve surely heard his name. Wiley recently dropped his One Singular Flame Emoji mixtape, a wide spectrum of his talents rolled up into 9 tracks. Wiley is surprisingly calm during the course of this project contrasting his often wild and animated style. A display of versatility, One Singular Flame Emoji further showcases Alex Wiley’s growth as a musician. Chicago has yet another reason to be proud, 2015 looks like it can be a big year for Wiley, check out One Singular Flame Emoji below and stay tuned for more.
Chicago artist Alex Wiley has been quiet as of late, but that all changed earlier today with the release of “Ready.” Wiley had stated that his new music would start taking on darker tones with an emphasis on his signature crooning, it appears he has made good on his promise. “Ready” pulls the listener into a trance like mode, Wiley gently sings and intertwines his words; the kid is really growing as an artist and wordsmith. With all the right doors opening, you should be seeing a lot more from Alex Wiley in 2015, keep an eye out for the dates for his upcoming US/European tour.
Last August, St. Paul’s own Allan Kingdom made the trip out to Chicago to perform alongside Alex Wiley for a North Coast after party. Brought to us by the good guys over at Closed Sessions, the show was definitely one of the highlights of the North Coast weekend. Behind the scenes, it appears the label and Allan decided to jump in the lab, forging the new track, “Glass Up”, for all of our listening pleasure. Produced by Odd Couple, Allan keeps it all the way Minnesota on this track, a solid collaboration from those involved; they even went as far as filming a short documentary. Check out “Glass Up” and it’s accompanying video below.
