New Coen Brothers Comedy ‘Hail Caesar!’ Opening In Theaters February 5th

The Coen Brothers are finally back on the big screen with a new comedy titled Hail Caesar!. Starring Scarlett Johansson (The Avengers, Iron Man 2), Channing Tatum (21 Jump Street, Foxcatcher), Ralph Fiennes (The Constant Gardener, Spectre), Jonah Hill (The Wolf of Wall Street, Moneyball) and Coen regulars Tilda Swinton (Burn After Reading, The Grand Budapest Hotel), Josh Brolin (No Country For Old Men, Men In Black 3), and George Clooney (Oh Brother Where Art Thou?, Ocean’s Eleven), the film follows a Hollywood ‘fixer’ who works for Capital Records in the 1950s and must deal with the disappearance of the studio’s biggest star before an upcoming release is ruined by the schemers behind the kidnapping. The film was co-written and directed by Joel and Ethan Coen (in their usual fashion), and will be their first project together since 2013’s Oscar-nominated drama Inside Llewyn Davis with Oscar Isaac (A Most Violent Year, Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and Carey Mulligan (Drive, The Great Gatsby), although they have written several films since then, including director Angelina Jolie’s Unbroken and Steven Spielberg’s Bridge of Spies. The trailer for Hail Caesar! is available here on MADE. Look for it in theaters this February 5th.

New Showtime Documentary ‘Listen To Me Marlon’ Opening Nationwide This Fall

A new documentary from Showtime Documentary Films, Listen To Me Marlon, will be opening in theaters nationwide this fall. As implied, the film takes a personal perspective on the life and career of 2-time Academy Award-winning actor Marlon Brando, narrated by Brando, himself, from hours of audio tapes from his personal archives. Writer/director Stevan Riley (Fire In Babylon, Everything Or Nothing) compiled Brando’s narrations along with hours of archival film footage of the actor with the help of co-writer Peter Ettedgui (Vigo: A Passion For Life, Everything Or Nothing). Brando is considered among many film historians and critics to be one of the greatest actors in history, give-or-take a few others. He is probably best known for his portrayal of the title role in Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather, but his dynamic talents lead him to portray a vast array of characters throughout his career in films like A Street Car Named Desire (1951), Julius Caesar (1953), and On The Water Front (1955), the latter of which earned him his first Oscar. He won his second Oscar for The Godfather in 1972 but famously refused to show-up to accept it and instead sent a young Native American woman in his place, making a political protest against the persecution of Native Americans in the United States. Nevertheless Brando went on to star in such films as Superman (1978) and Apocalypse Now (1979), imbedding himself in American culture until his death in 2004. Listen To Me Marlon first premiered earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival and is scheduled to be shown at the Film Forum on July 29th in New York City, and then 2-days later at LA’s Landmark Theater before the nationwide release in the fall. We’ll keep an eye out for an official release date.

Frances McDormand Joining Cast Of Coen Brothers’ Upcoming Comedy ‘Hail Caesar’

reading

Frances McDormand recently revealed that she had an unknown role in the upcoming comedy from Joel and Ethan Coen, Hail Caesar. McDormand is no stranger to Coen Brothers movies, having appeared in Burn After Reading (2008), The Man Who Wasn’t There (2001), and Raising Arizona (1987). She also secured an Oscar for Best Actress for the Coen’s 1997 crime thriller Fargo. Hail Caesar already has an all-star cast attached to appear, including George Clooney in the lead role, with Scarlett Johansson, Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill, Josh Brolin, Ralph Fiennes, Tilda Swinton, and Alden Ehrenreich (who just appeared in Woody Allen’s Oscar-winning dramedy Blue Jasmine) making up the supporting cast. While McDormand is obviously a great addition to the cast, the decision to cast her is really not so surprising. The Coens have always had a tendency to work with the same actors, including George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Tilda Swinton, Jeff Bridges, and Josh Brolin. Hail Caesar will follow the story of Eddie Mannix, a “fixer” in the studios of Hollywood responsible for protecting the reputations of the film industry’s biggest moneymakers. It should make for an interesting watch, but we won’t see it hit theaters until sometime in 2015, so stay tuned.

‘Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes’ Hits Theaters This Friday

The next chapter in the Planet of the Apes reboot project from Twentieth Century Fox is coming to theaters this Friday, once again featuring motion-capture master Andy Serkis (The Lord of the Rings, Rise of the Planet of the Apes) in the role of Caesar. Rise of the Planet of the Apes came out in 2011 and ended with a mutated virus spreading across the globe and beginning to wipe out mankind from existence. Now in the years after the breakout, a band of humans lead by Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight, Leon: The Professional) are heading out to wage war against Caesar and reclaim their dominant-species status on Earth. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes also features Keri Russell (August Rush, Mission: Impossible 3) and is directed by Matt Reeves (Let Me In, Cloverfield) from a screenplay by Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, and Mark Bomback. Check out the trailer here on MADE, then go and see it on the big screen this weekend!

Joel And Ethan Coen’s New Project ‘Hail Caesar’ Has All-Star Cast

coen

The Coen Brothers rarely fail to produce an excellent movie, so it’s no surprise they’ve been able to acquire the star-power they always provide in their films, including George Clooney, Matt Damon, Jeff Bridges, Oscar Issac, Frances McDormand, Tom Hanks, and Brad Pitt. Now Clooney will be leading the cast of their next project titled Hail, Caesar!, which has Josh Brolin set to co-star with Clooney and actors Ralph Fiennes, Tilda Swinton, and Channing Tatum joining the cast as well. The story follows Eddie Mannix, a “fixer” in 1950s Hollywood who is responsible for protecting the reputations of Hollywood stars during the Golden Age of cinema. The brothers are writing and directing the new comedy, which is still in early production, so we’ll keep an eye out for more news on this one.

Andy Serkis And Original Hulk Actor Lou Ferrigno Lending A Hand In ‘Avengers: Age Of Ultron’

hulk

With production on The Avengers: Age of Ultron currently in full speed, fans are growing more and more eager to see the sequel to one of the most anticipated comic movies ever. Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Robert Downey Jr., Jeremy Renner, and Mark Ruffalo are all reprising their comic hero counterparts for the Age of Ultron, which is once again being written and directed by Joss Whedon (Toy Story, Alien: Resurrection). Along with other supporting cast members like Samuel L. Jackson and Don Cheadle, actor Mark Ruffalo, who is reprising the role of Hulk, will be receiving some help on his character from actors Lou Ferrigno and Andy Serkis. Ferrigno, if you are not aware, portrayed the Hulk in the 1970s TV series The Incredible Hulk, and Serkis is the experienced mime-actor behind Gollum in The Lord of the Rings and Caesar in Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Ferrigno will provide some voice-overs for the Hulk when he is big and green, and Serkis will be coaching Ruffalo with some motion-capture techniques for the new movie. Age of Ultron is scheduled for release in May 2015, so we’ll have to wait to see the two actors’ contributions, but it will most likely be worth it.

New Trailer For ‘Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes’

The follow up to 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes is coming out this July and the new trailer is here to get us even more excited. Picking up ten years after Rise took place, Caesar and his band of intelligent apes have been living peacefully isolated without human interference until a band of survivors of the virus that spread globally at the end of Rise decides to wage war against them. The new film is directed by Matt Reeves (Cloverfield), who took over the responsibility from Rise director Rupert Wyatt, and also stars Oscar nominee Gary Oldman (Leon The Professional, The Dark Knight) and Golden Globe nominee Andy Serkis (The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings). Both Dawn and Rise are set as modern-day prequels to the original Planet of the Apes which first hit theaters back in 1968 and starred Charlton Heston as an astronaut who returns to Earth in the distant future (unbeknownst to him until the end) and finds a planet where intelligent apes are the dominant species and humans a primitive race. The film was nominated for two Academy Awards, receiving an honorary award for Achievement in Make-Up effects, and went on to have four sequels with Roddy McDowall, who played both Cornelius in the first three movies and then his son Caesar (yes, the same Caesar character as the new films) in Conquest (1972) and Battle for the Planet of the Apes (1973). You can watch the new official trailer right here on MADE!
